Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office is warning county residents regarding a convicted High Risk Sex Offender, living in the rural Jamestown area.<\/p>\n

The notice says Timothy Alan Taxis is currently camping at the Parkhurst Recreational Area, on weekends.<\/p>\n

Taxis is a 50 year old white male, 5-feet 6 inches tall weighing 140 pounds with hazel eyes, and blonde hair.<\/p>\n

His vehicle is a white 1992 Chrysler New Yorker, with ND license plate: JZR 252.<\/p>\n

He also drives a 1985 black Dodge pickup, with ND license plate: GEA 590.<\/p>\n

He was convicted in Stutsman County Court in July of 2001 of indecent exposure, involving two 11 year old girls in a park, and then following them in a vehicle.<\/p>\n

The disposition was 30 days.<\/p>\n

He was convicted in Stutsman County Court in April of 1998, of indecent exposure, involving a female employee at a video store.<\/p>\n

Disposition, 30 days with 24 days suspended.<\/p>\n

He was convicted of gross sexual imposition on three occasions in one week, involving exposing himself to young girls in the area of a tennis court. On one of those occasions he forced an 11 year old girl to perform a sexual act on him.<\/p>\n

The conviction date in Stutsman County District Court, was in May 1994, with the disposition of 7 years, with 3 years and 6 months suspended.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) announces the date of this year\u2019s Garden Tour as Wednesday, July 16, 4-8 pm.<\/p>\n

On Thursday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Kelly Krien pointed out that this will be the twenty-fifth year for the garden tour which began in 1989, and several gardens shown in the past years will be brought back as a way to celebrate the many people who have been hosts over the years.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that over the years, there have been 85 different locations on the tour, and 12-15 gardens have been shown more than once.<\/p>\n

She added, since the AAUW Garden Tours began, around $40,000 has been raised, with proceeds from the garden tour supporting the AAUW Educational Foundation, the AAUW<\/p>\n

Legal Advocacy Fund and the AAUW Endowment Fund at the University of Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) The Annual Barnes County 4-H Achievement Days Show is at the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center building, Jul 11-12, 2014.<\/p>\n

The static exhibits open for public viewing, beginning at 1-p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 , and continue on Saturday.<\/p>\n

All events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Activities include project exhibits, small animal and large animal exhibits, dog obedience and showmanship along with a premium sale supper.<\/p>\n

Projects include baking, woodworking, gardening, drawing, showing animals and more.<\/p>\n

Projects are judged and ribbons awarded in each project class, with the top exhibitors moving on to compete at the ND State Fair.<\/p>\n

On Friday, small animals, dogs, cats, pets, poultry and rabbits judging begins at 1-p.m., with the dog show at 5:30-p.m.<\/p>\n

Large animals will be judged on Saturday, beginning at 9:30a.m.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The 117th<\/sup> Stutsman County Fair, for 2014 showed an increase in attendance over 2013, by 23 percent.<\/p>\n

Stutsman County Fair Board President, Mike Williams says this year\u2019s attendance was put at 32,775, including the paid gate total, including children entering, along with fair workers, and exhibitors.<\/p>\n

Officials say a change this year to the Murphy Brothers Exposition, back from a 20 year absence, from the Mighty Thomas Carnival in recent years was a reason for the increase.<\/p>\n

Stutsman County Extension Service Agent, Christina Rittenbach says 4-H entries at this year\u2019s fair, totaled about 1,055. There were about 598 livestock entries, as neither figure includes the drops.<\/p>\n

Next year, the fair in Jamestown will be July 1st through the 4th<\/sup>, with the firework show on Saturday the 4th and marks the end of the fair.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – One of two suspects in the fatal shooting of a man in Grand Forks has been ordered held without bond.

\n29-year-old Delvin Shaw made his initial court appearance on Wednesday, after being extradited from St. Paul, Minnesota. He was arrested there June 28 after a standoff.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shaw and another man are accused of shooting to death 24-year-old Jose Lopez in Grand Forks on June 24. Both suspects have preliminary hearings scheduled Aug. 27.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shaw on Wednesday requested a public defender.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have charged correctional officer with sexual assault for allegedly having sexual contact with an inmate at the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center in Devils Lake.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jonathan Defoe has been charged with one count of sexual assault, a Class C felony.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ramsey County State’s Attorney Lonnie Olson says Defoe allegedly had sexual contact with a female inmate. Court documents show the incident occurred on July 3.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The maximum penalty for Defoe’s charge is five years.
\n\u00a0

\u00a0 MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) – The Environmental Protection Agency says it is assessing a spill of oil-drilling saltwater from a North Dakota pipeline to ensure none of the brine reached a nearby bay.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In its first statement in the two days since the spill was detected, the agency said Thursday it had no confirmed reports that the saltwater had reached the water body that feeds Lake Sakakawea. The lake provides drinking water for an American Indian reservation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 EPA says most of the spill was pooled on the ground, soaked into the soil and held behind beaver dams.

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – A committee reviewing plans for a possible convention center and community wellness facility in Devils Lake plans to seek a special election this fall.

SPRING, Texas (AP) – Texas authorities say the man who is charged in the shooting deaths of a couple near Houston and four of their children is married to the sister of the woman who was killed. They say Ronald Haskell demanded to know the whereabouts of his estranged wife. According to police, he held children at gunpoint until more family members arrived, and then shot seven people, six fatally. A 15-year-old girl was critically wounded. Haskell is charged with multiple counts of capital murder.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – The Democrat who’s running for governor of Texas says President Barack Obama should visit the Texas border to witness firsthand the crisis of tens of thousands of young migrants entering the U.S. Her comments Thurs day made Wendy Davis the most high-profile Texas Democrat yet to urge Obama to make the trip. The White House has insisted there was little the president could learn from a border visit that he didn’t already know.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 DENVER (AP) – Denver’s clerk and recorder says she will issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples despite the state’s ban on gay marriage. Debra Johnson announced her decision shortly after a judge ruled that her counterpart in the liberal college town of Boulder can continue to grant gay marriage licenses. Colorado’s attorney general had sued to stop the licenses, arguing it was creating “legal chaos.”

Harris has said he left the boy in the SUV for about seven hours after forgetting to drop him off at day care.

LOUIS (AP) – A former Missouri Republican congressman whose comments about “legitimate rape” during the 2012 U.S. Senate campaign were roundly criticized now says he was wrong to apologize. Todd Akin says in a new book that his remarks on whether abortion should be legal in cases of rape were taken out of context and led to his “political assassination” and betrayal by GOP allies. Akin lost to Democrat Claire McCaskill. Akin writes that he believes stress affects conception, and asks “what could be more stressful than a rape?” He also says a “library of research on the subject” can be found on Google.
