Jamestown (CSi) The James River Valley Library 1\/4 % (percent) Sales Tax petition is now being circulated.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable the JRVLS Development Director, Bill Kennedy, and Library Director, Joe Rector were guest with the latest updates on the proposed Alfred Dickey Public Library and renovation and expansion project.<\/p>\n

Kennedy said the petition currently in circulation needs 1,452 signatures to put the 1\/4% sales tax on the November 4, 2014 ballot.<\/p>\n

The November 4, 2014 vote on approving the sales tax is county wide, as approval by voters would amend the Stutsman County Home Rule Charter.<\/p>\n

Kennedy added that 25 volunteers are gathering signatures that are due to the County Auditor by September 4, 2014, 60 days prior to the election.<\/p>\n

Requirements for gathering signatures or signing the petition are the same. You must be 18 years old by the November 4th election, a US citizen, and a resident of Stutsman County for at least 30 days prior to the election.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the average Stutsman County family will pay $33.75 a year for the new library addition and remodel of Alfred Dickey, which is estimated to bring in $700,000, annually.<\/p>\n

The estimated cost of the new library is $9,000,000. Pledges and donations will reduce the amount needed to finance the new library to approximately $7,500,000.<\/p>\n

The sales tax will continue until the debt on the new library is retired.<\/p>\n

Joe Rector added that the libraries will go from their current 14,600 sq. ft. to 27,000 sq. ft. State requirements for new libraries in counties the size of Stutsman are at least 25,000 sf for new construction.<\/p>\n

Alfred Dickey will keep its classic facade and interior details while being renovated to today’s electronic standards. The new addition adjacent to the north of Alfred Dickey will reflect the library\u2019s classic fa\u00e7ade, while providing a vision to the future in its interior.<\/p>\n

Renderings of the new library will be available for public view by the end of the summer.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Plans have been moving ahead on a new 108 hotel in Southwest Jamestown, and now construction may begin shortly on the new hotel.<\/p>\n

The hotel is a joint venture of Paces Lodging Corporation of Fargo, and Clarice Liechty of Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Paces Lodging\u2019s Developer, Darren Trudeau says the location of the hotel is planned directly west of the Buffalo Mall, adjacent to the road leading to the planned Menard\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Trudeau adds the hotel will be franchised under one of the Marriott brands, saying the Marriott brand had targeted the Jamestown area for many years.<\/p>\n

He says construction on the foundations will begin as soon as building permits are obtained in mid- to late-August, with completion estimated in May or June of 2015.<\/p>\n

Ms. Liechty adds that the hotel is planned to include conference rooms, along with a swimming pool with water slide.<\/p>\n

Not planned for the hotel at this time is either a restaurant or a bar.<\/p>\n

A five-year tax exemption for the property is on the August 4, 2014, City Council meeting agenda, for the estimated $10 million, project.<\/p>\n

\u3000\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Investigators say the body of a woman who was raped and murdered on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation was not discovered until a month after a drunk and agitated witness told police she was lying in tall grass west of Fort Yates.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Twenty-nine-year-old Lance Summers, of Fort Yates, has pleaded not guilty to murder and sexual abuse in the slaying of 38-year-old Natalie White Lightening of Cannon Ball.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 White Lightening was last seen on March 17. Her body was discovered on April 22 by two people walking through the heavily vegetated area.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tribal prosecutor Don Bruce tells the Bismarck Tribune that Councilman Barry Benson is in jail at the tribe’s justice center in New Town, on the Fort Berthold reservation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tribal magistrate Evan Burr says Benson was arrested July 4 for failing to appear for drug and alcohol testing as mandated in his probation on an earlier offense.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 51-year-old Benson represents the Twin Buttes segment of the reservation.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Passenger numbers in June at North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports were up more than 6 percent over the same month a year ago.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission says there were nearly 100,000 boardings in the month, an increase of about 6,000 from June 2013.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The month marked the first time that all eight airports have been able to offer jet service. Devils Lake and Jamestown added jets to Denver on June 5.

On a recent Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matt Leitner pointed out that the 334 boardings in\u00a0Jamestown \u00a0in June 2014 \u00a0was the best number since March of 2012, with the carrier at that time Delta, which offered a comparable aircraft.<\/p>\n

The June 5-30, 2014 boardings compare to Great Lakes Airline numbers of 218 boardings in 2013 and 175 in June of 2012.<\/p>\n

Leitner said\u00a0Jamestown may be looking at \u00a0600 boardings for July, that would make it\u00a0the best July for boardings since 1978.<\/p>\n

The first international monitors to arrive on the scene Friday met with resistance from armed militiamen. The 30-member delegation, mostly from the Organization from Security and Cooperation in Europe, was only allowed to perform a partial and superficial inspection of the wreckage. One member of the team says he was shocked to see that bodies of victims were still lying in the open.

Frday, she learned that her stepdaughter was on the plane that went down in Ukraine.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma’s governor says it’s an example of “federal courts ignoring the will of the people.” Mary Fallin is reacting to a ruling from a federal appeals court Friday that Oklahoma must allow gay couples to marry. The appeals court upheld a federal judge’s ruling striking down the state’s gay marriage ban. The court put its ruling on hold pending an appeal, meaning same-sex couples won’t be allowed to marry in Oklahoma for now.

It gave final approval Friday to the use of sonic cannons that can find energy deposits deep beneath the ocean floor. It will mean plenty of new jobs — but environmentalists are worried about the short-term and long-term impacts.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEW YORK (AP) – A black actor who accused Macy’s of racially profiling shoppers is settling a civil rights lawsuit he filed after he was stopped and detained at the flagship New York store. Macy’s says in a statement Friday the suit from actor Rob Brown has been “settled in principle,” as a judge indicated in a filing Wednesday. Macy’s wouldn’t discuss the terms. Brown said he was falsely accused of credit card fraud, held for almost an hour and grilled about a $1,300 watch he’d bought for his mother in June 2013. He wasn’t charged with any crime. The suit was among several that spotlighted similar allegations.
