News) &#8212; The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) will host a Big Sit! at the Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area.<\/p>\n<p>This FREE, fun event will be held Sunday, October 14<sup>, 2012, <\/sup>from 7:30 am \u2013 dark at the Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area on the Refuge.<\/p>\n<p>Come for an hour or so, or join us for the day. The Refuge is located northeast of Pingree (off Highway 281) or south west of Kensal (off Highway 9). The Big Sit! is a non-competitive birding event.<\/p>\n<p>The Big Sit! is like a Big Day, or a bird-a-thon in that the object is to tally as many bird species as can be seen or heard within 24 hours from a 17-foot diameter circle.<\/p>\n<p>The Big Sit! is an annual, international, noncompetitive birding event hosted by Bird Watcher&#8217;s Digest and founded by the New Haven (CT) Bird Club.<\/p>\n<p>The Big Sit! has been adopted by the National Wildlife Refuge System as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>The Arrowwood NWR is just one of over 550 National Wildlife Refuges spread throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the National Wildlife Refuge System encompasses more than 94 million acres, dedicated to its mission of wildlife conservation.<\/p>\n<p>The Big Sit! allows birders of all ages as well as the non-birding public to enjoy their local National Wildlife Refuge.<\/p>\n<p>THIS FREE EVENT is OPEN to every person; young or older, birder, nature enthusiast or just a refuge visitor looking for something to do!<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area is located on the east side of Arrowwood Lake, north of 11<sup>th<\/sup> Street SE. News) &#8212; The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce notes an error in a recent flyer, concerning ticket prices for the Chamber\u2019s, Farmer\u2019s Appreciation Banquet.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson Lisa Hicks says, the flyer mistakenly listed the ticket price as $20. However due to an error, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">the actual ticket price is $10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Subsequent publications will list the correct price.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Three higher education institutions in North<br \/>\nDakota are working on big projects.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jamestown College on Thursday broke ground for a $1.7 million<br \/>\nfacility in Fargo for its new doctoral program in physical therapy.<\/p>\n<p>President Robert Badal says Fargo is a regional health care hub and<br \/>\nstudents will be able to get the clinical experiences they need<br \/>\nduring the three-year program.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Also in Fargo, North Dakota State University has announced the<br \/>\ncreation of the NDSU School of Music. The Board of Higher Education<br \/>\napproved the school last week.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the western part of the state, the Williston State College<br \/>\nFoundation on Thursday helped break ground for a 74-unit housing<br \/>\nproject for people who provide so-called essential community<br \/>\nservices, including employees at the college, at law enforcement<br \/>\nagencies and at medical facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Tennessee woman has been sentenced to<br \/>\n10 years in prison for flying to North Dakota to have sex with a<br \/>\n15-year-old boy.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cynthia Kusy, of Knoxville, Tenn., was sentenced on convictions<br \/>\nfor sexually assaulting a minor and luring a minor over the<br \/>\nInternet.<br \/>\nShe&#8217;ll be on supervised probation for five years after her prison<br \/>\nterm.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Kusy met the boy while playing an online<br \/>\ncomputer game, and in April 2011 flew to Grand Forks and rented a<br \/>\nmotel room, where she gave the boy beer and had sex with him over<br \/>\nthree days.<\/p>\n<p>A week later she drove to Grand Forks, picked up the<br \/>\nboy and took him to Knoxville without telling his mother.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kusy is married and has a teenage son.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The near white-out conditions Grand<br \/>\nForks residents endured this week has an upside: The county&#8217;s burn<br \/>\nban is lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Bob Rost announced the lift Friday. He says rural fire<br \/>\nchiefs have reported that enough precipitation has fallen to lift<br \/>\nthe ban.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rost warns that people still need to monitor any fires and be<br \/>\nprepared to put out fires if they start to get out of control.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The county is one of several to implement burning bans over the<br \/>\npast few weeks as the ongoing drought created ideal conditions for<br \/>\nfire to spread.<\/p>\n<p>Pembina and Nelson counties lifted their burning bans Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The area was hit by more than 4 inches of snow in some spots late Wednesday and early Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0KILLDEER, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Another landslide has hampered a highway<br \/>\nreconstruction project in western North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Last year, the state Transportation Department spent $4.3<br \/>\nmillion to twice repair landslide damage that shut down state<br \/>\nHighway 22 north of Killdeer.<\/p>\n<p>The highway was torn up this past spring for a 7.5-mile, $18.3 million upgrade, but another landslide in September has added about $500,000 to the cost.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Job superintendent Mike Schrinersays crews are tearing out about a mile of new construction and moving the road east 60 feet from the area<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s sliding. He says his company will finish the job next year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MEDORA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Theodore Roosevelt&#8217;s Elkhorn Ranch in<br \/>\nwestern North Dakota has been added to the National Register of<br \/>\nHistoric Places.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The National Register is the federal government&#8217;s list of<br \/>\nproperties it considers worthy of recognition and preservation.<\/p>\n<p>The Forest Service says the listing includes about 200 acres of land in<br \/>\nTheodore Roosevelt National Park that can&#8217;t be developed, and also<br \/>\nabout 4,400 acres of surrounding Greater Elkhorn Ranchlands where<br \/>\ndevelopment is not banned.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Before he became president, Roosevelt spent more than three<br \/>\nyears in the North Dakota Badlands in the 1880s, ranching and<br \/>\nhunting on land that government agencies and conservation groups<br \/>\nhave hailed as the &#8220;cradle of conservation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An addition to the Cass County Courthouse in<br \/>\nFargo is ready after more than a decade of planning, legal battles<br \/>\nand construction setbacks.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for the<br \/>\n$14.7 million, 72,000-square-foot addition.<\/p>\n<p>It will house county administrative offices, information technology, commission offices and chambers, courtrooms, district court offices and an inmate holding area.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ground was broken for the addition in 2010, but planning began<br \/>\nnine years earlier.
