Jamestown, ND\u00a0 (KCSi-T.V. News)\u00a0 —\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol Reports\u00a0 two semis collided Monday, (Oct 8, 2012) at the intersection of Highway 52 and the bypass west of Jamestown, at about 10:10 a.m.<\/p>\n

The report says, a 2007 Kenworth, operated by 30 year old Shaun Ebach, of Minnewaukan, was southbound toward Jamestown, on Highway 52.<\/p>\n

\u00a0A 2000 International, driven by 50 year old, Calvin Ova, of Jamestown, was eastbound on Highway 52.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ova\u2019s vehicle stopped at the intersection and continued north, onto Highway 52.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In the process, Ova\u2019s vehicle pulled out in front of Ebach\u2019s semi.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Attempting to avoid a crash, Ebach\u2019s vehicle veer west onto the bypass.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The truck and trailer rolled onto its side, in the south ditch, losing its load of canola.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Both drivers wee wearing seatbelts, no injuries reported.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

Then, about noon on Monday, a semi from Washington State was hauling apples on I-94 eastbound, when the semi left the roadway, near Exit 272.<\/p>\n

A second rig was on scene transferring the load to another trailer, early Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

No injuries were immediately noted.<\/p>\n

\u3000UPDATE……(KCSi-T.V. News)\u00a0 —\u00a0 The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to the buffalo pasture, about 9:50 Sunday evening (Oct 7, 2012).<\/p>\n

\u00a0The units put out the fire, caused by an auto accident.<\/p>\n

City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says\u00a0two\u00a0equipment trucks, a pumper and a mini-pumper\u00a0were sent to the scene.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fire units entered the pasture from the westbound lane of I-94 and over the ditch into the pasture, where the vehicle towing a trailer was located, on fire.<\/p>\n

He says an area of pasture about 150X150 feet \u00a0was burned.<\/p>\n

The driver had already been taken from the scene by ambulance when the fire department arrived.<\/p>\n

While the bison were not in danger, fire fighters were careful of the buffalo, which Reuther said were off in the distance but did not approach them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The units were on the scene about an hour.<\/p>\n

No other details on the car accident were immediately available.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (KCSi \u2013 T.V. News Oct 8, 2012) — The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities has awarded nine grants totaling over $319,000 to five North Dakota organizations that serve individuals with developmental disabilities and family members.<\/p>\n

Grant funds are intended to support employment, education, early intervention, and community supports for persons with developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n

Family Voices of North Dakota in Edgeley received funding for its Parent to Parent Project, which provides emotional and informational support to families of children with disabilities and families with children who have special health care needs.<\/p>\n

Others receiving funding were: The Arc of Bismarck, March of Dimes in Fargo, and the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities, in Minot.<\/p>\n

Pathfinder Parent Center of Minot also received grant funding.<\/p>\n

The council advocates for policy changes that promote choice, independence, productivity, and inclusion for North Dakotans with developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n

\u00a0TIOGA, N.D. (AP) – Weekend crashes in northwest North Dakota
\nleft two people dead and four others injured.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says one crash happened late Saturday on
\nstate Highway 40 near Tioga, and the other late Sunday on U.S.
\nHighway 85 near Alexander. Both crashes involved pickup trucks
\ncolliding.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-three-year-old Brent Gardner of Grantsville, Utah, died
\nin the first crash. Forty-three-year-old Jason Smith of Murrieta,
\nCalif., died in the other.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A man from Colorado was injured in the Saturday crash. Two Texas
\nresidents and a Nevada man were injured in the Sunday crash.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The crashes happened in western North Dakota’s oil patch, where
\npeople from around the country are working.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The tax director of North Dakota’s Three
\nAffiliated Tribes says the tribe should get a bigger share of tax
\nrevenue from oil that’s produced on the reservation.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Fort Berthold reservation is in the heart of North Dakota’s
\nbooming oil country.<\/p>\n

Four years ago, the tribe and state signed an agreement to split up the tax revenue.<\/p>\n

Oil drilling has mushroomed since then and it’s expected to keep growing.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tribal tax director Mark Fox says oil taxes from the reservation
\nhave totaled $346 million since the agreement was signed. The state
\nhas gotten almost two-thirds of the money.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fox says the tribe should get a bigger share from oil produced
\non tribal land. But a law change is needed for that to happen. The
\nLegislature rejected the idea last year.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University has hired a
\ndisability specialist.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The school says Anita Hanson will work with students with
\ndisabilities to access accommodations and determine eligibility.
\nShe’ll also help students with assistive technology programs and
\neducate the campus community on disability-related topics and
\nissues.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hanson for more than 16 years worked at Fond du Lac Tribal and
\nCommunity College in Cloquet, Minn., where she served as a
\ncounselor and disability services coordinator.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She most recently served as that school’s interim dean of
\nstudent services.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A Dickinson church that is celebrating
\nits 100th anniversary this year also is gearing up for a major
\nrenovation next year.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church’s current building was
\nconstructed in 1956. The Rev.<\/p>\n

Patrick Schumachersays \u00a0it has remained essentially unchanged for 40 years.<\/p>\n

\u00a0He says it needs upgrades on its roof, lighting, sound and electrical systems and fire suppression.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The parish has about 770 members. The most noticeable change
\nwill be an addition that will increase seating by about 120.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work is to start next August or September. Schumacher hopes the
\n$2.8 million project can be completed in six months.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota is
\nholding public forums this month for three candidates who want to
\nbe the school’s new provost.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The provost is UND’s top academic officer, and is considered the
\nNo. 2 administrator at the university. Incumbent Paul LeBel is
\nleaving the job in June.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The three finalists will each give a 20-minute presentation on
\nhigher education’s future. There will be a question-and-answer
\nsession and a campus reception afterward.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The forums will be held in the UND Memorial Union’s lecture
\nbowl.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On Monday, Anthony Vizzini of Western Michigan University will
\ngive his presentation. Christa Slaton of New Mexico State is on
\nWednesday, and Michelle Larson of Utah State University is
\nscheduled for next Monday, Oct. 15.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Dickinson State University’s football
\nstadium has been formally named after the team’s legendary coach.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Dickinson Press reports the Badlands Activities Center was
\nrenamed the Henry Biesiot (BEE’-zhoo) Activities Center during a
\nceremony after DSU’s game on Saturday.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Biesiot has coached the Blue Hawks since 1976, racking up more
\nthan 250 wins.<\/p>\n

He holds the NAIA record for most wins at one school, and he’s battling with St. Francis coach Kevin Donley for the honor of most wins in NAIA history. He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Biesiot says the stadium’s renaming is not just a credit to him
\nbut to countless others. In his words: “Hank never made a block,
\nnever made a tackle. I happened to witness a lot of them.”

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) – Turkey’s president is calling Syria’s
\ncivil war a “worst-case scenario” and says the international
\ncommunity must act.<\/p>\n

President Abdullah Gul says “sooner or later”
\nthere will be a regime change in Syria and he hopes it happens
\n“before more blood is shed and before Syria self-destructs.” The
\ncomments come amid heightened tensions between Turkey and Syria.<\/p>\n

The two countries have been firing artillery and mortars across
\ntheir volatile border since Wednesday after shelling from Syria
\nkilled five civilians.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) – President Barack Obama’s campaign is
\nresponding to Mitt Romney’s criticism on foreign policy. In a
\nspeech at the Virginia Military Institute Monday, the Republican
\ncandidate accused the president of being passive.<\/p>\n

Romney says as a result, the risk of conflict in the Middle East “is higher now”
\nthan it was when Obama took office.<\/p>\n

Among other things, Romney says the U.S. should be working with other countries to arm the Syrian rebels.<\/p>\n

The Obama campaign calls Romney “reckless” on foreign
\npolicy.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEW YORK (AP) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
\nsays there have now been eight deaths and more than 100 cases of

Health officials have linked the outbreak to steroid shots used for pack pain that were produced by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

The company has recalled the steroid which was sent to clinics in 23 states.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – An Illinois man is facing terrorism charges
\nin Oklahoma today.<\/p>\n

Police say the man was assembling Molotov cocktails as part of a plot to blow up dozens of churches.<\/p>\n

Court documents indicate Gregory Weiler was arrested Thursday at a motel,
\nwhere police found bomb-making materials along with torn bits of
\npaper with directions for making Molotov cocktails, a list of 48
\nchurches and a hand-drawn map of their locations.
