Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Engineer\u2019s Office informs motorists that (Beginning Monday)the intersection of 1st<\/sup> Ave South & 10th <\/sup>SE will be restricted to one lane of traffic in multiple directions for approximately one week due to street repairs in the area.<\/p>\n

Please use alternative routes if possible.<\/p>\n

Motorists\u2019 should use EXTREME caution in and around this area and use alternate routes.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Valley City Police report, a 37-year-old Valley City man was arrested Friday for allegedly breaking into a woman\u2019s home multiple times and purportedly taking razors and personal intimate clothing.<\/p>\n

The victim says she believed her house was being broken into July 29th, noting that over the previous two months items had been going missing from her home, not able to explain why the items were missing and became concerned.<\/p>\n

Prior to leaving the area for a vacation, she secured her garage door with a board and screws \u2014 and upon returning she discovered the door had been forced.<\/p>\n

She then set up a trail camera, and on August 7th , the camera showed an image of a heavy-set white man attempting to open the garage door.<\/p>\n

Showing the images to police, and who she believed the individual was, the police investigation, including additional leads, led the police to identify 37 year old Corey Mertz, of Valley City.<\/p>\n

Police executed a search warrant for Mertz\u2019s residence, and found several items reported missing and numerous other pieces of feminine clothing that were identified as belonging to the victim. Police also confiscated computers and electronic storage devices, whose content will be analyzed.<\/p>\n

While the search warrant was being served, and under police surveillance, Mertz was stopped by police while driving, and later taken into custody.<\/p>\n

Mertz is charged charged with two counts of burglary, a C felony, and one count of stalking, a misdemeanor. Additional charges are pending<\/p>\n

The investigation is continuing, and anyone with additional information is asked to call the VCPD at (701) 845-3110.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the two men who were killed after their vehicle struck a cow that was wandering on a road in western North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Patrol says the victims were 27-year-old Kaleb Newel Steed of Mountain Home, Idaho, and 19-year-old Jake Alexander Holm of St. George, Utah.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The patrol says the men’s vehicle entered a ditch and rolled several times after striking the black cow Friday night about 12 miles east of Mandaree.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Holm was wearing a seatbelt and Steed was not. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a driver in Dickinson hit the front swing arm of a parked excavator Saturday morning.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Patrol on Sunday said 25-year-old Antonio Redshirt was driving westbound on Cove Circuit around 4:15 a.m. when he struck the excavator head on.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Redshirt and passenger 24-year-old Tyron Redshirt, both of Dickinson, were transported to a local hospital. The severity of their injuries was not immediately clear. The Patrol says neither was wearing a seatbelt.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The driver was cited for driving under the influence. His 1994 Ford F150 was totaled.

\u00a0BOWBELLS, N.D. (AP) – A group of Burke County residents have submitted a petition to the North Dakota Attorney General’s office to start the process to have their sheriff removed.

\nAttorney General Wayne Stenehjem has not reviewed the petition against Sheriff Michael Cude. Stenehjem has 30 days to investigate and make a recommendation to the governor.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The law allows for the governor to remove certain public officials in situations involving misconduct, malfeasance, crime in office, neglect of duty or gross incompetency.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Attorney General’s Office is using a $30,000 federal grant to further improve its sex offender website.<\/p>\n

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the state has spent almost a quarter of a million dollars improving the site launched 12 years ago to keep residents informed about the identity and whereabouts of convicted sex offenders.<\/p>\n

He says the new money will pay for upgrades such as multiple mapping features, for sex offenders who have more than one residence. The site also will show where offenders go to school or where they work.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WASHINGTON (AP) – North Dakota’s federally backed road projects – including an expansion of U.S. Route 85 – will go on as scheduled after Congress recently passed a last-minute legislative patch.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But the state’s senators say the legislation that provides the Highway Trust Fund until May 2015 only highlights the need for a long-term fix. The highway fund would have been drained leaving states without funding for projects already underway.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota is swearing in its newest officer – a police dog.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officer Ben is a 2-year-old yellow Labrador retriever trained to sniff out drugs and track people. He’s among the officers scheduled to be sworn in Monday at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ben is handled by officer Jose Solis, who previously worked patrols on campus. The UND Association of Residence Halls provided funding to start the K-9 unit.

Jamestown (CSi) Cross country coaches from Jamestown High School and the University of Jamestown are working in conjunction to make a new cross country course.<\/p>\n

Located north of Parkhurst Campground, the course could be ready by next fall.<\/p>\n

The course is likely to be used for one or two meets a year, and could be used when Jamestown hosts the state cross country meet in 2016. The area could also be used for practice.<\/p>\n

Cost are yet to be determined to create and maintain.<\/p>\n

The course is expected be mowed three to four times a summer.<\/p>\n

Also being explored is a partnership with Jamestown Parks and Recreation as the public is expected be able to use the trails for walking and running.<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) – Kevin Ward Jr.’s family says it “appreciates all the prayer and support” but that the family “would like time to grieve” a day after Ward was killed on a racetrack when he was hit by a car driven by NASCAR star Tony Stewart. Stewart sat out Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0The winner of the race was AJ Allmendinger, who picked up his first Sprint Cup victory. The victory made his one-car team for JTG Daugherty Racing eligible for the Chase for the Sprint Cup title.

In his first public comments since Friday’s ruling, Emmert said that college sports’ largest governing body found a lot in the decision that was “admirable” but some parts they disagreed with so strongly that they could not let it go unchallenged in court.<\/p>\n

\u00a0STURGIS, S.D. (AP) – Police in Sturgis say calls for service and arrests were both up during this year’s motorcycle rally.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There were 1,534 calls for service, an increase of 15 percent from last year. Citations and arrests rose 19 percent, to 568.\u00a0 The number of people jailed rose 8 percent to 118, and the number of charges filed jumped 37 percent, to 194.

STURGIS, S.D. (AP) – This year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has wrapped up, and many of the people leaving say they can’t wait to come back for next year’s 75th anniversary bash.<\/p>\n

Others are worried about the potential ramifications of an influx of a million people – double the normal rally attendance. That’s the amount many officials expect next year.<\/p>\n

Sturgis Rally Director Brenda Vasknetz says she’s confident the city can handle that large of a crowd.<\/p>\n

Sturgis Buffalo Chip complex President Rod Woodruff isn’t so sure. He worries that that 75th rally could turn into one big traffic jam.<\/p>\n

Embattled Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki (NOO’-ree ahl-MAHL’-ih-kee) took to Iraqi television today to resist calls for his resignation and to announce that he’s filing a legal complaint against the country’s new president for violating the constitution. Al-Maliki says President Fouad Massoum is obstructing his re-election.

The halt in fighting has allowed Palestinians to leave their homes and shelters and for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza’s battered neighborhoods.

(AP) – Authorities in St. Louis County, Missouri say there’ve been no reports of injuries, but there have been scattered reports of assaults in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson. Mayhem followed last night’s candlelight vigil for 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot multiple times and killed after a scuffle involving a police officer. Some people began looting businesses and vandalizing vehicles. Ferguson Mayor James Knowles told KTVI-TV that it was a “small group of people are creating a huge mess.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
