News) &#8212; The National Weather Service Friday (Oct 12, 2012), reported that the fire danger index is high due high winds and low humidity.<\/p>\n<p>A wind advisory is in effect for Jamestown and Stutsman County until 7-p.m., Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Red Flag Warning is in effect Friday until 7-p.m. for counties south of the Jamestown, Valley City area, until 7-p.m., for strong wind and low humidity, with dry pastures a concern.<\/p>\n<p>The counties include\u2026. Sioux, Emmons, Logan, LaMoure, McIntosh, and Dickey.<\/p>\n<p>With the strong wind and dry conditions, the Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out to a grass fire Friday afternoon about 1:30-p.m, (Oct 12, 2012) east of Buchanan.<\/p>\n<p>Later, about 2:15 \u2013p.m., the Kensal Fire Department was call to a corn field fire<\/p>\n<p>southwest of Kensal, 3 to 4 miles northwest of the Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 Jamestown Police report\u00a0a \u00a0railroad crossing arm was struck about 11:30 a.m. on Friday (Oct 12, 2012) at 3<sup>rd<\/sup>Street, Southeast, in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Police on the scene said a vehicle struck the crossing arm on the south side of the\u00a0crossing, as it was\u00a0heading east on 3rd street.<\/p>\n<p>No vehicle was at the scene when police arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Damage was confined to knocking the arm loose from the unit, and some dangling wires.<\/p>\n<p>A BNSF worker was getting material to reattach the arm.<\/p>\n<p>The crossing arms at that location have been hit a few times over the past few months, with the installation of the median as part of the railroad Quiet Zone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; The James River Humane Society continues to receive excellent support from the community.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday\u2019s (Oct 12, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, James River Humane Society President, Jennifer Barnard, said, on <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Saturday (Oct 13, 2012) a bake sale fundraiser<\/strong> <\/span>is at the Buffalo Mall at the K-Mart entrance from 10-a.m., to 2-p.m., or until gone.<\/p>\n<p>Those wishing to donate a baked good item may drop it off between 9:30 and 10-a.m. at the mall.<\/p>\n<p>Also on sale to raise funds will be window clings with the new logo, plus a new style t-shirt, and pet blankets.<\/p>\n<p>She added that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, as all dogs over the age of one year can be adopted at a discount of $75.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barnard said, for the first time in a few years, the Humane Society has to increase the cost of the adoption fee, for dogs and cats, from $100 to $135, effective, November 1, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that the increase is necessary to support the costs of operating the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>All animals are spayed or neutered, with all shots given.<\/p>\n<p>Another fundraiser coming up, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">October 27, 2012, Taco in a Bag will be sold at the Buffalo Mall from 11-a.m., to 2-p.m., for $5 including a beverage<\/span>, with items donated by local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Cookbooks will be sold for the holidays, beginning in November, at a cost of a $20 donation to the shelter, which Ms. Barnard says make great Christmas gifts.<\/p>\n<p>She added that individuals recycling beverage cans at Gerdau Ameristeel in Jamestown may designate the money received to the James River Humane Society.<\/p>\n<p>The recycler is at 1510 10<sup>th<\/sup> Street Southeast in Jamestown, open Monday through Friday from 8-a.m., to 5-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that the Lloyd\u2019s Motors fundraiser is now through November this year, with a portion of sales donated to the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From Stephanie Mayfield Festival of Trees Coordinator<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2013 Mercy HealthCare Foundation\u2019s 17th Annual Festival of Trees is coming soon.<\/p>\n<p>Festival of Trees, Coordinator, Stephanie Mayfield says, the event will be on November 24, 2012, at the VC Eagles Club beginning at 6:30pm and will include both a silent and live auction and quilt raffle.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $15 each.<\/p>\n<p>Pay at the door or contact the Foundation office at 845-6557 for tickets.<\/p>\n<p>She points out that the Festival of Trees is such a wonderful way to get you in the Christmas spirit!<\/p>\n<p>The money raised this year is going towards furthering the development of new programs within Mercy Hospital and aiding the funding of equipment that is in need of replacement or upgrading.<\/p>\n<p>She adds, this event is one of the greatest ways that Mercy Healthcare Foundation gives back to our community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Dakota Gasification Co. plans to study<br \/>\nadding a urea fertilizer plant at its Great Plains Synfuels Plant<br \/>\nnear Beulah.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Urea is a granular fertilization used by farmers. It would be<br \/>\nthe ninth co-product for the plant that makes natural gas from<br \/>\ncoal. If the study is favorable, the urea plant would be built by<br \/>\nlate 2015 or early 2016.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dakota Gas President and CEO Andrew Serri says urea production<br \/>\nrequires anhydrous ammonia and carbon dioxide, both of which are<br \/>\nproduced at the synfuels plant.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dakota Gas is a subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP Oct 12, 2012) &#8211; The U.S. Forest Service has lifted fire<br \/>\nrestrictions on some national grasslands in the Dakotas.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The restrictions were put in place in late August because of dry<br \/>\nconditions that elevated the danger of wildfires. They affected the<br \/>\nLittle Missouri, Grand River and Cedar River national grasslands.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The restrictions were lifted this week, but officials are urging<br \/>\npeople to use caution with fire even though cooler temperatures and<br \/>\nrecent moisture have reduced the fire risk.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Forest Service is planning prescribed burns on about 3,100<br \/>\nacres in the Sheyenne National Grasslands over the next several<br \/>\nmonths.<\/p>\n<p>The agency uses fire as a management tool to reduce the threat of wildfires and improve wildlife habitat.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0CAVALIER, N.D.
