SEVERE<br \/>\n\u00a0WEATHER IS NOT ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office reports,\u00a0an 18 year old\u00a0 female driver of a pickup, from Valley City,\u00a0lost her life in the one vehicle rollover accident, about 1:38-a.m., Satrurday.\u00a0The accident happened at 1:38 a.m. on a gravel road\u00a0five miles west and\u00a0one and a half\u00a0miles north of Pingree.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say Miranda Stephens\u00a0lost control of the pickup\u00a0 after swerving to avoid hitting a deer that ran onto the road. The truck entered the ditch and rolled over.<\/p>\n<p>She was ejected and\u00a0pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>A 19-year-old male passenger,\u00a0\u00a0Isaac Valenta, was\u00a0taken by Jamestown Area Ambulance to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Jim Reuther says, the Jamestown Fire Department was called to the scene for an extrication.<\/p>\n<p>The accident remains under investigation. The North Dakota Highway Patrol, assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0\u00a0 Jamestown Police\u00a0reminds residents to refrain from keeping valuables in their vehicles, and keep them secure at night, \u00a0as police continue the investigation into\u00a0 nine vehicle break-ins that occurred between Wednesday and Friday of last week, all in Southeast Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The items taken were of\u00a0negligible value,\u00a0with the break-ins reported reported in the 600 block of 8th Street, the 500 block of 6th Street, the 700 block of 7th Avenue, the 700 block of 6th Avenue, the 400 block of 4th Street,\u00a0 the 300 block of 4th Street and\u00a0the 600 block of 6th Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Police continue with the\u00a0investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call\u00a0 Jamestown Police \u00a0at 252-1000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Civic Center estimates The North Dakota Roughrider Rodeo Association state finals in Jamestown September 26, 27, 28, 2014 generated around $725,000 this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Rodeo brings in about 8,000 to 11,000 people However with Jamestown High School and the University of Jamestown, and hosting Homecoming activities including each having homecoming football games, Friday and Saturday, this year&#8217;s, attendance is down to about half that number.<\/p>\n<p>This year the Jamestown Civic Center estimates that the rodeo on Friday night alone generated around $190,000 for the city and around $468,000 on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Saturday&#8217;s Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Jamestown raised $3,337.<\/p>\n<p>The local walk was organized by a committee of volunteers chaired by Margo Haut, who adds, that there were 139 walkers.<\/p>\n<p>Half of the proceeds will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for research and national programs and the other half will goes to local suicide prevention efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Stutsman County Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Jamestown and others, help to dispel the stigma of suicide and its leading cause \u2014 depression.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Fundraising efforts to continue restoration\u00a0of the 1883 Stutsman County steps up with a fundraising campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Dollars raised will help to pay for the second phase of improvements to the historic structure.<\/p>\n<p>The 1883 Courthouse Committee, which is working with the State Historical Society of North Dakota, hosted an open house at the courthouse September 13 this year, the first time in 30 years that the public had been able to walk inside the courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>State historic sites manager of the north region for the State Historical Society, Guinn Hinman, says the State Historical Society is working on plans to finish the interior of the courthouse, which will include electrical and plumbing work and the installation of an elevator.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the process includes getting input from the community on what the public would like to see the courthouse become.<\/p>\n<p>Donations are being accepted by the 1883 Courthouse Committee. (AP) &#8211; A man from Reno, Nevada, who has been living in North Dakota is accused of making a telephone threat that led to a lockdown of Dickinson schools.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-eight-year-old David Viator faces a felony terrorizing charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege that Viator called a national crisis hotline last week and made reference to a mass homicide, and the call was traced to a prepaid cellphone in Dickinson.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents do not list an attorney for Viator, and a telephone listing could not be found for him in Dickinson. He is due in court Nov. 10.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Law enforcement authorities in Minot say a man shot himself in the foot, prompting the response of police officers and emergency personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Capt. John Klug with the Minot Police Department says 26-year-old Jeffrey Bailey injured himself with a shotgun. Klug says police secured the scene at a trailer park and provided immediate medical attention until an ambulance and emergency staff arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The Minot man was transported to Trinity Hospital. His condition is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Tucson, Arizona, man who pleaded guilty to robbing a North Dakota bank last spring is asking to be moved from jail to a halfway house before sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Nichols pleaded guilty last week to holding up the Dakota Community Bank in Bismarck on May 6. Authorities say he took nearly $7,000 from the Bismarck bank. All but about $1,700 was recovered.<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorneys say Nichols has shown good behavior since he was arrested and being placed in a halfway house would allow him work release privileges to help pay back the money.<\/p>\n<p>The government is opposed to the motion. Prosecutors say Nichols should be considered a career offender and they will be asking for a prison term of at least 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 26.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Wyoming man accused in a fatal hit-and-run in the North Dakota oil patch hub of Williston has been sentenced to time served and two years of probation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 David Krause, of Alpine, Wyoming, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors under which a felony manslaughter charge was reduced to misdemeanor reckless endangerment. He pleaded guilty Friday and his trial scheduled for this week was canceled.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Krause was charged in the December 2013 death of 31-year-old Anthony Scoggins outside a bar. Judge Joshua Rustad said the incident was &#8220;nothing more than a tragic accident.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Detective David Peterson says &#8220;law enforcement does not agree.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s shortage of substitute teachers continues to grow despite multiple attempts to end it.<\/p>\n<p>Janet Welk is the director of the state Standards and Practices Board. Welk tells the Bismarck Tribune the shortage is the worst North Dakota has seen.<\/p>\n<p>The problem began in the late 1990s. The board then began issuing life licenses to teachers who had taught or been licensed for 30 years. Teachers with those licenses can continue to work without ever having to renew it.<\/p>\n<p>The board later made another change allowing anyone with a bachelor&#8217;s degree to obtain a teaching license.\u00a0 People with two years of post-secondary coursework are now also allowed to be substitutes.<\/p>\n<p>But the changes haven&#8217;t fixed the problem, and occasionally, administrators or athletic directors have to substitute absent teachers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Department of Human Services has named a new director for its Aging Services Division.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy Marihart has worked in the social services field for more than 25 years. Most recently she worked as director of the Mahnomen County Human Services Department in Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota&#8217;s Aging Services Division provides services and funds programs to improve quality of life and help older adults. The office also offers services that help individuals with physical disabilities live independently in their homes and communities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The military says a $67 million runway upgrade at the Minot Air Force Base is complete.<\/p>\n<p>A ribbon-cutting ceremony was scheduled Monday to mark the completion of the project that has spanned three years.<\/p>\n<p>The base&#8217;s runway was closed in April to complete the final phase of work, pegged at $32 million.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen B-52s and 600 airmen from the base were temporarily reassigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and Andersen Air Force Base in Guam during the runway reconstruction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Gov. Jack Dalrymple is seeking applications from groups interested in being the official state band or orchestra and the official state chorus.<\/p>\n<p>School, community and church bands, as well as orchestras and choirs from across the state can apply.<\/p>\n<p>The governor and First Lady Betsy Dalrymple will select groups based on musical talent, achievement and community involvement.<\/p>\n<p>The band or orchestra and chorus may be invited to perform at official state functions including the governor&#8217;s State of the State Address and a session of the North Dakota Legislative Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are due Oct. 17.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. The winner gets the Washington Nationals, who host the first two games of their National League Division Series.<\/p>\n<p>Later this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on St. Louis in an NL division series and Baltimore will play Detroit in an AL division series.<\/p>\n<p>NATIONAL\u00a0 FOOTBALL\u00a0 LEAGUE<\/p>\n<p>MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; Teddy Bridgewater passed for 317 yards and a key 2-point conversion before leaving with an ankle injury as the Minnesota Vikings beat the Atlanta Falcons 41-28 yesterday. The rookie was 19 for 30 with no turnovers and ran five times for 27 yards and a score in his first career start. Christian Ponder took over at quarterback for the Vikings.<\/p>\n<p>The Packers went into Chicago and promptly gave up a touchdown on the first series before Aaron Rodgers threw for 302 yards and four TDs in Green Bay&#8217;s 38-17 rout of the Bears. The 2-2 Packers scored on their first six possessions and racked up 358 yards after being held to 223 in last Sunday&#8217;s loss to Detroit. Green Bay also intercepted Jay Cutler twice in the third quarter and won at Soldier Field for the fifth straight time.
