Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Park Board \u00a0has unanimously accepted a letter of resignation from Golf Course Superintendent, Marlyn Bertsch, who had allegedly fueled his personal vehicle from the department’s fuel depot<\/p>\n

Parks and Rec Director Doug Hogan said the act was witnessed by two other employees. Bertsch also allegedly used one of the department’s tractors for work on his personal property without prior permission.<\/p>\n

In his letter Bertsch said in part that he was resigning “due to circumstances beyond my control.” “While I have been satisfied with my time at Jamestown Parks & Recreation, I feel that the situation has become untenable and it is now time to move on.”<\/p>\n

The city park board\u00a0has unanimously approved financing $1.8 million for improvements to Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course by selling bonds to be paid back over 20 years.<\/p>\n

Business Manager Sheila Harr said the amount being financed is $1.5 million, which covers refinancing $355,000 for the winter sports building, $704,000 for almost completed improvements to Hillcrest, plus $500,000 for a new irrigation pond and pumps. The commission decided on the $1.8 million figure to provide a cushion in case there are problems with finishing up the golf course improvements.<\/p>\n

FARGO (CSi) On Thursday, October 30, 2014, Highway Patrol troopers in the Jamestown area will be conducting emergency response team training.<\/p>\n

The public can expect to see an increase in the amount of patrol cars in the area, along with troopers on foot participating in a simulated search and rescue.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Highway Patrol aircraft will also be in the area to participate in the simulated search. The training will run from approximately 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) The Public is invited to a meeting on Thursday October 30, 2014, to hear information from KLJ about planning and zoning in Valley City.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be at City Hall, starting at 7-p.m.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) \u2013 The Community Action, Region 6 Weekend Backpack program received a total of $3,066 in a fundraiser, and bake sales on October 23, 2014, at the Jamestown Business Center.<\/p>\n

The events were held in Conjunction with National Massage Therapy Awareness Week.<\/p>\n

Local massage therapist Michelle Kinzler says the Noridian Bake Sale raised $1,323.50 toward the final total.<\/p>\n

Proceeds were raised as the massage therapists and reflexologists gave 10 minute massages, for a minimum donation of $10.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The 25th<\/sup> Annual, James River Family Fitness (formerly the James River Family Y) Halloween Party will be held on Halloween this year, Friday October 31, 2014 from 5:30-p.m., to 8-p.m. No admission.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, James River Family Fitness, Executive Director, Frank Conlin said, volunteer help will come from the University of Jamestown athletes.<\/p>\n

He added that thanks to local businesses there will be Door Prizes, Raffles, Coupons, and more.<\/p>\n

There will be 25 carnival games, Bingo, Cake Walk, Swamp Rides, Domino\u2019s Pizza, Pop,<\/p>\n

Punch cards will be available for $5, with 15 punches, good for games and food.<\/p>\n

Proceeds will support the facility\u2019s Learning Center.<\/p>\n

Conlin pointed out that the next day, Saturday November 1st<\/sup> the University of Jamestown will host a women\u2019s wrestling tournament at Family Fitness with wrestlers coming from nearby and Canada.<\/p>\n

He said the upcoming Session Three, that starts on Monday, will have a different approach to swimming lessons, as the three week program will focus on a swimming stroke clinic.<\/p>\n

He said Adult Fitness Classes are growing, including Battle Ropes and more.<\/p>\n

Conlin said James River Family Fitness will host Veteran\u2019s Day activities on November 11th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

He added that the facility will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and reopens on Friday November 28th<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) The operating cost of running the proposed Valley City Health, Wellness, and Physical Education Center is estimated at $812,729, with the first year operating revenue estimated at $836,389.<\/p>\n

At the final meeting before the November 4, 2014 vote on whether to approve the facility, the consulting firm of ORB Management Corporation said the projected annual cost associated for personal expenses with the proposed facility is estimated at $462,229.<\/p>\n

Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist added that the estimates are conservative and she believes incoming revenues for operating the facility will be higher once it is up and running.<\/p>\n

Valley City Park and Recreation board president Dick Gulmon says the Wellness Center would have a positive impact on the community.<\/p>\n

Supporters of the project say the city can support both permanent flood protection another issue on the ballot, and the proposed Wellness Center. Gulmon added that it\u2019s important for the city to support permanent flood protection to make both projects possible.<\/p>\n

The proposed 62,000 square foot Wellness Center would be located east of the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse across 8th Avenue southwest.<\/p>\n

The facility would be owned and operated with the Valley City Parks and Recreation Department with VCSU renting or leasing space from the park district for classroom space.<\/p>\n

More money would be committed to the project from investors who are waiting to see if Valley City residents support the plan following a vote on two city measures in the November 4th election.<\/p>\n

It expected that another $4 million dollars needs be raised through a community wide fund drive.<\/p>\n

Measure Number 3 on the ballot\u2026.an Advisory Vote on the Wellness Center Sales Tax asks Valley City residents whether to use up to 17% of the existing 1\/2 cent city sales tax used for economic development to support the proposed Wellness Center<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Community Foundation has awarded a $3,100 grant to Stutsman County\/All Vet’s Club to assist with the restoration of the eagle sculpture in the front of the Vet’s Club building in downtown Jamestown.<\/p>\n

This sculpture was originally commissioned by the former American Legion Club in Jamestown 38 years ago. The eagle was sculpted by J.A. Kirkpatrick.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Supreme Court has upheld a state law that bans the use of one of two drugs used to perform abortions, effectively making the procedure illegal.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The court on Tuesday overturned a judge and upheld a 2011 state law limiting the use of drugs to terminate pregnancies. The five justices were split over the question of whether the law was unconstitutional, under both the federal and state constitutions.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Center for Reproductive Rights filed the lawsuit challenging the law. It had argued that such a ruling would effectively outlaw the procedure and illegally restrict abortion rights.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state’s only abortion clinic is the Red River Clinic in Fargo. The clinic performs about 1,300 abortions annually. About 20 percent of the procedures are done with drugs.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota health officials have tallied four tuberculosis cases this month. North Dakota’s last tuberculosis outbreak was in 2012. Twenty-six cases were reported that year. October’s cases were reported in various areas of the state.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Bond has been set at $10,000 for a Williston woman who police say videotaped her boyfriend attacking a man who later died.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-year-old Jessica Gibson is charged with hindering law enforcement, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gibson also faces a felony charge of attacking a correctional officer while in custody.\u00a0 Defense attorney Nicole Foster said in court Monday that her client didn’t receive her medication before confronting the officer.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gibson is due back in court on Nov. 12 and could enter pleas at that time.

\u00a0ALEXANDER, N.D. (AP) – State officials say the completion of bypasses in the North Dakota oil patch towns of Watford City and Alexander will improve the quality of life in those communities. The bypasses and a partially completed expansion of U.S. Highway 85 cost the state $200 million. Officials say about 13,000 vehicles traveled through Watford City and Alexander every day when no bypasses had been built.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Harvesting of most late-season crops is wrapping up in North Dakota after a week of unseasonably warm weather and little rain.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that the flaxseed, dry bean, potato and soybean harvests all are more than 90 percent done.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rocky Gordon with the city’s Parking Authoritysays \u00a0there have been 10 accidents in three weeks. He says some drivers are having a tough time seeing concrete barriers when they turn into different sections of the ramp.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Parking Authority Chairman Jim Christianson says officials have painted the barriers yellow and plan to add fluorescent flags.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jody Farhat says the agency’s plan is to lower Lake Oahe by more than 3 feet and Lake Sakakawea by about 6 feet by March 1.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials in the Dakotas are worried about a repeat of 2011, when Missouri River flooding caused by heavy spring snow runoff and rain led to damage in the two states.

The Wild continued peppering Rask with shots and Scandella beat him with high slapshot for the go-ahead goal.

\nReferee Dave Lewis left the Minnesota Wild’s game at Boston after he was hit in the face with a puck. Lewis was hit in the first period last night. The NHL issued a statement at second intermission saying Lewis was being evaluated by medical personnel and would not return.

ATLANTIC, Va. (AP) – They’re searching this morning for debris from an unmanned rocket that exploded seconds after launch on Wallops Island, Virginia last night. The rocket from Orbital Sciences Corp. was supposed to deliver supplies and experiments for NASA to the International Space Station. Today, NASA and officials from the company are hoping debris found will lead to answers to what caused the explosion.
