News Oct 19, 2012) &#8212; Janelle Cave has withdrawn her \u00a0appeal, of her conviction of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy charges in Southeast District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Her appeal was filed with the North Dakota Supreme Court on May 24, 2012,and withdrawn on Oct. 11, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>An order of dismissal was issued by the court on Oct. 12, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The 22 year old Cave, was convicted in February, 2012, in the death of a Somali immigant, 18 year old Abdi Ali Ahmed, of Jamestown, on April 30, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>She was sentenced to 11 years in prison on the criminal conspiracy charge and eight years on the manslaughter charge to be served concurrently.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate trial, also convicted in Southeast District Court, in the crime was 35 year old, Leron Howard, of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>He was convicted of murder and criminal conspiracy on Aug. 23, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Howard is to be sentenced Nov. 14 this year, and could be sentenced up to life in prison without parole.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 18,2012) &#8212; Jamestown Police is warning Jamestown Residents of a High Risk Sex Offender living in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The report says, 22 year old Brandon Scott Schafer is living at 1214 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Avenue, SE, Apartment #15 in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Schafer is a white male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 135 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.<\/p>\n<p>Schafer has been assigned a High Risk Assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee, of the North Dakota Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Schafer was convicted of Gross Sexual Imposition, involving a 13 year old female friend.<\/p>\n<p>The report says, no force was used.<\/p>\n<p>The conviction date was July 18, 2012 in Ransom County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>The disposition was one year, and one day, with time suspended, and five years probation.<\/p>\n<p>Schafer is not wanted by police at this time, and has served the sentence imposed by the court.<\/p>\n<p>This notice is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender.<\/p>\n<p>Attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders, families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>Printed handouts of Schafer\u2019s photo and demographics are available at the Jamestown Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>More information on registered offenders is available at the North Dakota Attorney General\u2019s web site: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sexoffender.nd.gov\/\"><strong>www.sexoffender.nd.gov<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. (AP) &#8211; The east-end floodwater diversion<br \/>\noutlet on Devils Lake has been shut down for repairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The problem was first reported by the Devils Lake Journal. State<br \/>\nWater Commission Engineer Bruce Engelhardt tells The Associated<br \/>\nPress that a pipeline leak earlier this month led to some ground<br \/>\nerosion and pipe settling. He doesn&#8217;t have a cost estimate but says<br \/>\nmost of the repairs are the responsibility of a contractor.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Engelhardt says he hopes the problem will be fixed in a matter<br \/>\nof days.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The lake&#8217;s west-end outlet is still pumping excess Devils Lake<br \/>\nwater into the Sheyenne River. But with the east-end outlet shut<br \/>\ndown, the amount of water being moved off the lake is less than<br \/>\nhalf what it was.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The east-end outlet came online in early summer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) &#8211; A federal agency says TransCanada Corp.<br \/>\nhas temporarily shut down its existing Keystone pipeline after<br \/>\ntests showed &#8220;possible safety issues.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration says<br \/>\nTransCanada reported shutting down the approximately 2,100-mile<br \/>\npipeline, which moves about 500,000 barrels of crude a day from<br \/>\nAlberta, Canada, to facilities in Illinois and Oklahoma.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeannie Layson, spokeswoman for PHMSA, says the possible safety<br \/>\nissues were found on part of the pipeline that extends between<br \/>\nMissouri and Illinois. Layson says in an email that an agency<br \/>\ninspector has been sent to review the test results, observe repairs<br \/>\nand follow any necessary safety activities.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She says TransCanada hasn&#8217;t reported any leaks on the system,<br \/>\nwhich passes through South Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TransCanada spokesman Grady Semmens says the pipeline was shut<br \/>\ndown Wednesday and is expected to restart Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BUCYRUS, N.D. (AP) \u2013 The chairman of the Adams County Commission says the destruction of one of the county\u2019s communities by a wildfire is devastating.<\/p>\n<p>Chuck Christman (KRIHST\u2019-muhn) says four of the seven or eight homes in Bucyrus (byoo-SY\u2019-rus) were destroyed in the Wednesday fire, displacing all 27 residents.<\/p>\n<p>All Bucyrus\u2019 residents have been evacuated and a shelter has been established in the nearby town of Hettinger, about 60 miles south of Dickinson.<\/p>\n<p>He says that\u2019s a lifetime of memories for at least four families.<br \/>\nChristman says firefighters were able to save a church in the<br \/>\ntown, and a privately owned elevator on the outskirts wasn\u2019t<br \/>\ndamaged in the town of about 30 residents.<\/p>\n<p>The town\u2019s only business, a picture-framing shop, was destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Scranton fire chief Ryan Schumacher says firefighters had the blaze under control late Wednesday despite winds gusting more than 60 mph.<\/p>\n<p>Schumacher says &#8220;the town is basically gone.&#8221;<br \/>\nChristman says the state fire marshal will be investigating the cause of the fire that also destroyed an abandoned farmstead and about 70 electrical power poles and forced the temporary shutdown of U.S. Highway 12.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0NEW ENGLAND, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say two men in ski masks<br \/>\nrobbed a bank in the southwest North Dakota town of New England<br \/>\nyesterday morning. Hettinger County Chief Deputy Josh Monson says<br \/>\nthat the robbery occurred at about 8:20 a.m. No one was hurt.<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Two men from a defunct Arizona mortgage<br \/>\nlender are scheduled to appear in court on accusations they<br \/>\nswindled Bismarck-based BNC National Bank out of at least $26<br \/>\nmillion.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Scott Powers and David McMaster are charged with conspiracy to<br \/>\ncommit bank fraud and wire fraud. Powers was the CEO of American<br \/>\nMortgage Specialists, Inc., and McMaster was the vice president in<br \/>\ncharge of lending.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the mortgage company, which shut down in April<br \/>\n2010, lied about the status of loans the bank had financed.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 James Belanger, McMaster&#8217;s attorney, says his client made<br \/>\nmistakes and is accepting responsibility for them.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Patrick Sampair, the attorney for Powers, was not immediately<br \/>\navailable for comment.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 McMaster is scheduled to appear in federal court in Bismarck at<br \/>\n9 a.m., and Powers at 10 a.m. Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Officials are stressing safety at railroad<br \/>\ncrossings in North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Federal Railroad Administration says there have been more<br \/>\nthan 100 vehicle-train incidents since 2007 in North Dakota,<br \/>\nresulting in 45 injuries and 11 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Data show that there were 19 vehicle-train collisions in North<br \/>\nDakota through July.
