ST. PAUL (CSi) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently started its annual winter draw down of nine of its Minnesota and North Dakota reservoirs.<\/p>\n

Baldhill Dam, near Valley City began its draw down in October. Conservation elevation is 1,266.0 +\/- 0.2 feet. The goal is to reach elevation 1,262.5 feet by the end of February. During the winter, the snow water content in the basin will be monitored and changes to the target drawdown and date may be changed. Maximum drawdown at Baldhill is elevation 1,255.0 feet.<\/p>\n

Red River of North basin:<\/p>\n

Lake Traverse, near Wheaton, Minn., is currently at its conservation elevation of 976.8 +\/- 0.2 feet. The gates at Mud Lake are closed. Lake Traverse will be drawn down in March between 1.5-3 feet, depending on the amount of snow water content in the basin.<\/p>\n

Orwell Reservoir, near Fergus Falls, Minn., is currently at its conservation elevation of 1,064.0 +\/- 0.5 feet. The pool may be drawn down in March, depending on the amount of snow water content in the basin. Maximum drawdown at Orwell is elevation 1,050.0 feet.<\/p>\n

Homme Dam, located near Park River, N.D., began its fall drawdown on Nov. 3. Conservation elevation is 1,079.8 +\/- 0.2 feet. The pool is currently at elevation 1,077.3 feet. Drawdown target is dependent on snow water content in the basin.<\/p>\n

Minnesota River basin:<\/p>\n

Lac qui Parle, near Montevideo, Minn, was raised from its summer conservation elevation of 933.0 +\/- 0.2 feet to its winter conservation elevation of 934.0 +\/- 0.2 feet in September. The winter raise enhances conditions for fish survival.<\/p>\n

Mississippi Headwaters basin:<\/p>\n

Gull Lake, near Brainerd, Minn., will be gradually drawn down during the fall and winter, and the final elevation level will be determined by the winter snow water content.<\/p>\n

Cross Lake, near Crosslake, Minn., started its draw down Oct. 1. The target elevation is 1,228.3 feet at the end of November. The final draw down level will be determined by the winter snow water content.<\/p>\n

Big Sandy Lake, near Libby, Minn., also started its draw down Oct. 1. The normal draw down is to elevation 1,214.31 feet, or 2 feet below the middle of the summer band.<\/p>\n

Pokegama Lake, near Grand Rapids, Minn., is currently releasing flows. The normal drawdown is to elevation 1,270.42 feet, or 3 feet below middle of the summer band.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake, near Federal Dam, Minn., began its draw down Oct. 1. The final level will be determined by the winter snow water content.<\/p>\n

Winnibigoshish Lake, near Deer River, Minn., also began its draw down Oct. 1. The final level will be determined by the winter snow water content.<\/p>\n

The nearly 700 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Community Christmas tree, on Friday, was cut and traveled from its location at 821 16th Street, Northeast, across from Leapoldt Park, to the west side of the Jamestown Civic Center, transported by RTS Shearing.<\/sup><\/p>\n

The tree was donated by Lloyd Landscoot.<\/p>\n

City Forester, Doug Wiles says, the tree is a Colorado Blue Spruce stands just under 40 feet.<\/p>\n

JDA Ambassador Charlie Kourajian pointed out that the tree this year will have about 1,500 new larger and brighter lights, with new wiring, and will be strung by members of the Jamestown Fire Department, using the department\u2019s bucket apparatus.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown Community Christmas tree lighting will be after the parade, with the time dependent on the number of floats in the parade, with the tree lighting about 7:45-p.m., with a short program at the tree location, outside the west side of the Civic Center, before the lighting.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Frontier Village Association, board has approved funding for events.<\/p>\n

The board approved funding a Christmas-themed event at Frontier Village in early December, with the Wild Wet Players hosting a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Eldridge Town Hall and will provide refreshments. The Wild West Players would also set up Christmas lights along Main Street in the village.<\/p>\n

The activities were approved at a cost not exceeding $750.<\/p>\n

Board member Tina Busche reported that 1,200 people were on hand at the Village on Halloween, when treats were handed out. 606 children and 594 adults, mostly in Halloween costumes attended.<\/p>\n

The Wild West Players set up and ran a haunted village, with 45 people going through it, as $225 was raised by the Wild West Players who charged a $5 admission fee.<\/p>\n

In other business, the board approved a debit\/credit card in the Frontier Village Association\u2019s name for the manager\u2019s use, to purchase materials or services needed for the village, only to be used by the manager.<\/p>\n

The FVA board heard a request from Association member Warren “Taz” Schooler asking to resign for health and personal reasons.<\/p>\n

The association will in a month on the request and will hold its December meeting on the 11th<\/sup> to be held at meeting at Meeting Ground.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The 2014 Jamestown Turkey Trot, 5K Fun Run\/Walk will be held on Thanksgiving Day.<\/p>\n

Those participating should note the event time is at 8:30-a.m., with cash or check for $25 turned into Bank Forward or Coborn\u2019s in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Police in western North Dakota are investigating the death of a man who was found shot at an apartment complex.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dickinson Police Chief Dustin Dassinger says the man was found dead at the Century Apartments around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.

\u00a0\u00a0WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – Authorities in western North Dakota say a semitrailer driver from Alabama has died after his vehicle rolled.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 39-year-old Jesse Maner of Heflin, Alabama, was flown to a Montana hospital on Sunday, where he died from his injuries. The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Department says his vehicle rolled on County Road 13.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Heitkamp says she will look to work with Republicans on a number of issues, including legislation to reduce the burden of student loans, energy policies and transportation infrastructure.<\/p>\n

VALLEY CITY (VCSU) \u2013 The Valley City State University football team will face
\nCarroll College in the first round of the NAIA playoffs, the national office
\nannounced Sunday.<\/p>\n

VCSU, ranked No. 14 in the country, will play at No. 1-ranked Carroll College on
\nSaturday, Nov. 22. Game time is to be determined. The Vikings are making their
\neighth NAIA playoff appearance, and fourth playoff appearance under coach Dennis
\nMcCulloch.<\/p>\n

It is the fourth straight time that VCSU will play Carroll College in the playoffs.
\nThe Vikings faced Carroll College in the three previous playoff games under Coach
\nMcCulloch. In 2000, VCSU hosted Carroll at the Fargodome and lost 24-21. In 2001,
\nthe Vikings traveled to Carroll and lost 45-27. In 2011, VCSU was ranked No. 12 and
\nwent on the road to No. 2 Carroll, losing 47-0.<\/p>\n

The Vikings moved up one spot to No. 14 in the final regular season poll released on
\nSunday. It is the highest ranking for VCSU since being ranked No. 12 in the 2011
\nfinal regular season poll. In 2011, the Vikings went to Carroll in the first round
\nof the playoffs and lost 47-0.<\/p>\n

Valley City State University finished the regular season 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the
\nNorth Star Athletic Association, winning their fourth straight conference
\nchampionship.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Number 18-ranked Jimmies wrapped up their second consecutive North Star Athletic Association tournament championship at the Hansen Center on Friday night, sweeping Mayville State University for the third time this season.<\/p>\n

The University of Jamestown is expected to host an NAIA National Tournament Opening Round match November 22.<\/p>\n

On Saturday in Dickinson the Number one seed Bimarck Century Patriots needed extra points in the fifth set to defeat Number two seed Jamestown 19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 23-21 in the West Region championship.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays and Century are headed to the Class A State Tournament.<\/p>\n

The Patriots will be the Number one seed from the West and play Fargo South.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays are the Number two seed and face Fargo Davies.<\/p>\n

The Jimmies scored on an Eriksson to Alex Johnson touchdown in the final minute, but couldn\u2019t recover the onside kick.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) \u2013 A task force working on a plan for a new University of North Dakota nickname has scheduled meetings around the state to hear from alumni, students, staff, fans and the general public.<\/p>\n

UND says the group plans meetings Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Grand Forks, Fargo, Bismarck, Minot and Williston.<\/p>\n

The group will discuss the process for the potential selection of a new nickname and logo, and will gather feedback from attendees.<\/p>\n

The school\u2019s Fighting Sioux nickname was retired in June 2012. The Legislature enacted a three-year moratorium on a new moniker.<\/p>\n

The UND Nickname Task Force Town Hall Meeting will be streamed live in Jamestown Monday from 7-p.m. \u2013 9-p.m., at the University of Jamestown\u2019s Unruh-Sheldon Building, in the first floor executive conference room.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0Chicago’s Bears are back in the win column as Jay Cutler threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns in a 21-13 win over Minnesota. The victory is just the second in seven games for the Bears, who are 4-6. Ryan Mundy intercepted Teddy Bridgewater’s 29-yard pass in the end zone in the closing minute, and the Bears hung on for the win after suffering two of the worst blowout losses in franchise history.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – The Green Bay Packers raced out to a 30-6 lead in a 53-20 laugher over the Philadelphia Eagles. Aaron Rodgers passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns, and Julius Peppers returned his second interception of the season for a score. Peppers finished off the Eagles by returning Mark Sanchez’s pass 52 yards for a 39-6 lead in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was intercepted twice while completing 34 of 54 passes with just one touchdown in Denver’s 22-7 loss to St. Louis. The performance ended Manning’s streak of 15 straight games with a least two touchdown passes and factored into the Broncos’ fall to 7-3.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs own a five-game winning streak after holding on for a 24-20 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks in Kansas City.<\/p>\n
