Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 19, 2012) — Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Executive Director, Nina Sneider has announced her retirement.<\/p>\n

She says it will become effective at the end of March of 2013.<\/p>\n

She is the first, only executive of the BCTF, formed in March of 2004.<\/p>\n

She says, after retirement, she\u2019ll return to Minnesota, to be near her daughter and husband, her grandchildren, and seek part-time employment in a field where she can still visit with travelers.<\/p>\n

She adds, that her initial goals, were to set up a location for a tourism office (near Frontier Village), establish a board of directors, and develop brochures.<\/p>\n

Other goals were to increase visitors to Jamestown, and the tax base.<\/p>\n

Ms. Sneider says she has enjoyed watching projects come to life, noting that BCTF volunteers have put in many hours of service, including writing grants that have gone toward tourism programs in Jamestown, and then following through.<\/p>\n

The position of Buffalo City Tourism Foundation, Executive Director, will be advertised for in North and South Dakota and Minnesota, with a successor in place late this year or, next year so Ms. Snieder can train the new person.<\/p>\n

She adds the application deadline in November 15, 2012.<\/p>\n

The Foundation board will review r\u00e9sum\u00e9s and conduct interviews with the candidates for the position.<\/p>\n

Carrington, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Carrington School District, has been selected as a $10,000 winner in the Monsanto Fund\u2019s America\u2019s Farmers Grow Rural EducationSM<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

This program gives farmers the opportunity to nominate their public school district to apply for a merit-based grant to enhance math and science education.<\/p>\n

After a three-tier grant review process, Carrington School District was selected as one of five winners in North Dakota, which has a total of $65,000 is being invested in rural education.<\/p>\n

Carrington School District faculty, local farmers and Monsanto representatives will participate in a check presentation ceremony prior to the varsity girls\u2019 volleyball match, on Monday October 22, 2012, at about 6-p.m.<\/p>\n

BUCYRUS, N.D. (AP) – A relief fund has been set up for residents of Bucyrus (byoo-SY’-ruhs) after a wildfire swept through the small southwestern North Dakota community.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union in Hettinger has set up a
\nfund, and also has established a $50,000 pool from which to make
\nlow-interest loans to fire victims.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the Wednesday fire destroyed four homes, two
\nvacant farms and a picture-framing business.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire that was fanned by strong winds was not immediately determined.
\nNone of the two dozen residents of the town was hurt.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mike and Evelyn Krug are among those who lost their home. Evelyn
\nKrug\u00a0says \u00a0she doesn’t know how the community will move on.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck woman is accused of stealing
\n$4,300 in donations meant for Special Olympics.<\/p>\n

39-year-old Rachael Murray is charged with misapplication of
\nentrusted property, a felony that carries a maximum punishment of
\nfive years in prison upon conviction.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court files do not list an attorney for her. A telephone listing
\nfor her is no longer in service.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities allege Murray took the money from a Special Olympics
\nathlete who had solicited donations, and failed to turn it in to
\nSupport Systems Inc., which employs people to mentor people with
\ndisabilities.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A 19-year-old West Fargo man has been
\nsentenced to three years and five months in prison for robbing a
\nconvenience store in nearby Moorhead, Minn., at gunpoint.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brandon Sherman was convicted at trial earlier this year on a
\ncharge of felony aggravated robbery, and sentenced Thursday. The
\nForum newspaper reports that he also was ordered to pay $245 in
\nrestitution, and given credit for 231 days of jail time he already
\nhas served.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Sherman robbed the store in mid-February and was
\narrested in March based on video footage.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – There will be no mention of pop star Michael
\nJackson’s death during an upcoming trial of a former Fargo surgeon
\naccused of drugging and raping his wife.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jon Norberg is accused of having sex with his wife, Alonna
\nNorberg, while she was on propofol, a powerful sedative that also
\nhas been blamed for the death of Jackson.
\nJudge Douglas Herman on Thursday ruled that there will be no mentions of
\nother high-profile cases involving propofol when Norberg goes on
\ntrial on charges of gross sexual imposition and reckless
\nendangerment. The trial is to begin Nov. 5 and last three weeks.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Associated Press typically does not identify victims of sex
\ncrimes but Alonna Norberg has spoken publically about the case.<\/p>\n

NEKOMA, N.D. (AP) – The federal government is soliciting online
\nbids for an abandoned Cold War-era missile base in northeastern
\nNorth Dakota.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But state health officials say about 420,000 gallons of
\ngroundwater that has seeped into the underground silos at the
\nStanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard complex need to be cleaned up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0That could cost up to $6 million.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Federal officials say they don’t think there’s contamination,
\nand they’re going ahead with the bidding. The main complex and four
\nremote missile-launch sites are for sale “as is.”
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The controversy could derail plans by the Cavalier County Job
\nDevelopment Authority to buy the complex and turn it into a center
\nfor unmanned aircraft research.<\/p>\n

The group has received about $700,000 from the state and federal governments for the effort.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Heidi
\nHeitkamp says North Dakota’s traditional ban on Election Day
\ncampaigning should stay in place.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Former North Dakota Republican chairman Gary Emineth is suing in
\nfederal court to overturn a state law that prohibits campaigning on
\nElection Day. It’s been on the books for more than a century.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heitkamp says no matter what the outcome of the lawsuit, North
\nDakota candidates should give people a break from campaigning on
\nthe day that most people go to vote.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A spokesman for Republican Rick Berg says Berg isn’t planning to
\nrun any campaign ads on Election Day.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Emineth says he didn’t tell Berg or any other candidate about

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The number of temporary Federal Emergency
\nManagement Agency housing units in Ward County that are still
\noccupied has dropped below 1,000.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FEMA calls it “an important milestone” as Minot and
\nsurrounding communities continue their recovery from the
\ndevastating summer 2011 Souris River flood.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FEMA made more than 2,000 mobile homes available after the
\nflooding for displaced residents.<\/p>\n

More than 1,200 were still in use in August, and FEMA extended its temporary housing program in the area by six months, through next June 24.<\/p>\n

People remaining in FEMA housing after Jan.1 will be charged rent.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In addition to the housing, FEMA says it has provided more than
\n$90 million in financial assistance to people and households
