\u00a0VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – The Barnes County sheriff says two people are dead and one female airlifted to a Fargo hospital after authorities responded to a call at a rural home near Eckelson.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sheriff Randy McClaflin\u00a0says \u00a0there was a strong smell of propane inside the home when rescue crews arrived on scene Monday night.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 McClaflin says a man and a woman in their 70’s \u00a0were pronounced dead at the scene.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Another female was transported to a Fargo hospital. Her condition as not been released.<\/p>\n

The call came from family and friends after they had not heard from residents living in the home.<\/p>\n

The victims’ names were not released.<\/p>\n

He says more details will be released later today.
\n\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is warning Jamestown residents of a convicted sex offender living within the city.<\/p>\n

Jordan Aaron Smith, resides at 517 4th<\/sup> Street NW, Jamestown, ND 59401.<\/p>\n

He currently does not have a vehicle.<\/p>\n

He is a 19 year old white male 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.<\/p>\n

Smith has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota risk level committee of the Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Smith was convicted of gross sexual imposition, involving a 14 year old girl he was sharing an apartment with. He was convicted in July of 2014 in Stutsman County District Court.<\/p>\n

Disposition: one year, one day, with 239 days suspended with credit for time served, 127 days\u20265 years supervised probation.<\/p>\n

Smith is currently on probation with North Dakota Parole and Probation.<\/p>\n

Smith is on GPS monitoring.<\/p>\n

Smith is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.<\/p>\n

This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault or intimidate the offender. Attempts to harass, intimidate, or threaten these offenders or their families, landlords or employers will be turned over for prosecution.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman has informed the school board that he plans to retire at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, with school board approval.<\/p>\n

Koppelman\u2019s three year contract expires at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.<\/p>\n

He requested granting him a separate one year contract for the following school year.<\/p>\n

School board president Joyce Braunagel says the board appreciates the dedication and hard work Koppelman has done over his 17 years with the school district.<\/p>\n

She says the board will discuss the details of a new one year contract during board meetings in December.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The state of North Dakota is appealing a judge’s order that a state Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent and state attorney general pay back a man for confiscating his pay loader and failing to return it as ordered.<\/p>\n

Agent Arnie Rummel took possession of the loader in May from Darrell Schrum, of Forbes, after an investigation determined the equipment was stolen. Schrum told authorities he didn’t know about the theft and he bought the loader in good faith.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0 judge ordered that Schrum be paid nearly $54,000 by the end of the month.<\/p>\n

The attorney general’s office says it’s a unique case and the issue is not clearly defined by law.<\/p>\n

Schrum’s attorney says the appeal is compounding the damage and it will result in an additional $10,000 in fees.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) The Barnes County Salvation Army Bell Ringing campaign begins November 28, 2014 in Valley City.<\/p>\n

Last year more than $50,000 dollars was raised during the Barnes County mission effort,<\/p>\n

A Coordinator, Joe Lunde says the need to help continues to grow, adding more than $9,000 was used in the month of October this year for assistance in Barnes County.<\/p>\n

      Valley City is also known as the “City of Bridges,” and is also known by residents as an all around wonderful place to raise a family. It is the home of Valley City State University and even the North Dakota High School Activities Association.<\/p>\n

      But what really made it such a family-friendly place was the safety. In 2012, it had just 1,887 property crimes per 100,000 people, including 45 vehicle thefts, 1,456 thefts, and 386 burglaries. It also had 149 violent crimes, the sixth lowest number in the state, for a total of 2,036 crimes per 100,000 people for the entire year.<\/p>\n

        Of these violent crimes, there were zero rapes, zero robberies, 76 rapes, and 127 assaults per 100,000 people.<\/p>\n

        The only reason Jamestown didn\u2019t rank higher on our list was for its relatively high number of property crimes\u20142,660 per 100,000 people\u2014ranking it 13th in this category.

        \u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a Mandan man survived a jump from the Expressway Bridge into the Missouri River.
        \n\u00a0The 57-year-old man parked his car parked on the bridge Friday morning and jumped into the river as authorities arrived.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the man was able to make it back to shore.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and observation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

        DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Dickinson police have identified a man who was shot multiple times and killed after an argument at an apartment complex.
        \n\u00a0
        \n37-year-old David Porter died following the shooting Sunday after a verbal confrontation with a suspect or suspects.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police have not announced any arrests. It’s unclear if Porter was a Dickinson resident.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police responded to reports of a shooting at Century Apartments around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Porter was taken to an area hospital, where he died Sunday night.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say they are looking for a dark-colored Chrysler 300 with out-of-state license plates and tinted windows that could be involved in the shooting. An officer at the scene Sunday said the public isn’t believed to be in danger.<\/p>\n

        FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Investigators say a patient who was smoking while using oxygen caused a fire that injured both the patient and a staff member at a downtown Fargo hospital.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0The \u00a0fire happened on Thursday at the Sanford Medical Center.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fire chief Steve Dirksen says the combination of pure oxygen and open flame is extremely volatile.\u00a0 He says it was quick response by hospital employees that prevented a much more serious situation.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The exact nature of the injuries has not been disclosed because of the patient confidentiality law.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hospital employees who responded to a smoke alarm early Thursday in the room rescued the patient, had the fire out when firefighters arrived and evacuated patients in nearby rooms.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say damage to the room was minor.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The state Emergency Commission has approved bonuses for state workers living in western North Dakota’s booming oil patch.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 six-member panel on Monday approved $2.3 million to help state workers with living expenses.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Emergency Commission includes the governor, secretary of state and legislative leaders.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Department of Transportation will receive the largest portion of the funds, at just over $1 million. Seven other agencies will split the remaining funds during the first half of 2015.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Farmers in North Dakota are continuing to harvest corn and sunflowers as weather permits.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that the corn harvest was 85 percent complete, ahead of the 76 percent figure at this time a year ago. The sunflower harvest was 82 percent complete, well ahead of the 60 percent mark of last year.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Varying amounts of snowfall were reported over the week with temperatures averaging 15 to 25 degrees below normal. Some producers moved livestock to harvested corn fields when possible, while others were prompted to start supplemental feeding.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pasture and range conditions were rated 11 percent excellent. 55 percent good, 25 percent fair, 8 percent poor and 1 percent very poor.<\/p>\n

        GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The Economic Development Association of North Dakota is holding its fall conference in Grand Forks. The event brings together economic developers from across the state to participate in educational sessions and exchange ideas. The conference runs through Thursday at the Grand Forks Hilton Garden Inn.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota officials say work has been completed on a $25 million highway bypass project in western North Dakota’s oil patch.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials on Monday announced the completion of the project in New Town, on the Fort Berthold Reservation.
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the project will taking trucks off the community’s Main Street and “enhancing traffic movement and safety,”
        \n\u00a0
        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 3.2 mile New Town Truck Reliever Route will divert truck traffic from New Town’s Main Street to northwest of the city.

        \u00a0BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) – Government scientists say initial tests of shallow groundwater in the Northern Plains oil patch found no evidence of contamination from an energy boom that’s already seen more than 8,500 wells drilled.

        \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But the scientists caution that the results were unlikely to pick up contamination from surface spills or leaking well casings because the water they tested was from aquifers that predate oil and gas drilling.

        in the NAIA national tournament opening round match, at Jamestown High School\u2019s Jerry Meyer Area, as UJ\u2019s Hansen Center does not meet NAIA requirements for a playoff match.<\/p>\n

        This will be the third NAIA national tournament appearance for the Jimmies in volleyball play. The play will start at 2-p.m.<\/p>\n

        Kansas Wesleyan is from the Kansas City Athletic Conference and is currently on a 15-match winning streak since a September 27th<\/sup> loss to Friends University.<\/p>\n

Avila has been unable to repeat his terrific season of 2011, when he hit .295 with 19 home runs, but he has a career on-base percentage of .345 and can hit with power.
