(AP) &#8211; An Alberta clipper that passed through the region has left many highways in North Dakota and eastern South Dakota slick for Thanksgiving holiday travelers.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A travel alert remains in effect Wednesday morning for central North Dakota. That means motorists can still travel, but they should beware of poor conditions. A winter weather advisory is in effect for part of northeastern South Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The system that passed through Tuesday dumped 2-5 inches of snow throughout the region. The National Weather Service says more snow is possible on Thanksgiving throughout North Dakota and in northern South Dakota, though heavy accumulations are not expected.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Black Friday shoppers in North Dakota also could see light snow and possibly some freezing rain in the south. But temperatures in both states should be relatively balmy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Choralaires presents the Holiday Showcase on Thursday December 4 and Friday December 5, 2014 at 7:30-p.m., at the Jamestown High School auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Adult tickets are $10 and students at $4.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available from any Choralaire, Looysen I Care, and at the door.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Choralaires member, Roger Caine said in addition to traditional Christmas and holiday songs, the group will sing other genre of songs.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the spring of 2015 concert will mark the Choralaires 60<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the regional Big Sing in 2015 with regional groups will be in Rochester, Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown will host the event again, in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Organizers report that so far the 2014 Holiday Dazzle On Main Parade has 43 registered floats.<\/p>\n<p>Additional floats will be accepted, but will be put at the back of the parade as the floats entered earlier have been assigned numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Parade organizer Charlie Kourajian,reminds everyone that, the 11th annual event begins at 7 p.m. Friday at McElroy Park and ends at the Gladstone Inn &amp; Suites. Parade staging at the park begins at 5:30 p.m., with judging at 6:30-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Following the parade the Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held at the Jamestown Civic Center. (AP) &#8211; A judge says a previous conviction against one of two brothers accused of scamming the federal government out of $2 million in crop insurance payments cannot be used as evidence in trial &#8211; for now. Aaron and Derek Johnson, who grew potatoes in the Carrington area, have pleaded not guilty to conspiring to receive illegal payments by intentionally damaging the spuds. The Johnsons are accused of applying chemicals and adding spoiled and frozen potatoes to their stored crop to increase deterioration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A man has been sentenced to a year in prison for failing to care for his children on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Forty-two-year-old Nathan Jones Jr., of St. Michael, pleaded guilty in August to felony child abuse and neglect.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Jones, who is the parent of six children, admitted to leaving his children unsupervised on three separate occasions because he was drunk.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jones is also accused of failing to bring a child to dental appointments, resulting in the removal of the child&#8217;s teeth, and failing to provide treatment for a child&#8217;s severe skin condition, resulting in bleeding wounds.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The tribe&#8217;s child protection system has been the subject of numerous inquiries resulting from cases of abuse or neglect on the reservation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FORT YATES, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are investigating what authorities say is the suspicious death of a man on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FBI spokesman Kyle Loven tells the Bismarck Tribune that the man died Saturday night in Fort Yates. No charges were immediately filed.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Loven did not release any more information Tuesday, citing the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LANKIN, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say more than 80 cats have been seized from a woman\u2019s home in northeastern North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said Tuesday they retrieved 82 cats from the Lankin home Monday after receiving a court order to seize them.<\/p>\n<p>The court ordered that the cats be euthanized after they were deemed unadoptable due to disease. Authorities and the Park River Veterinary Clinic say the cats were feral and not vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>Health department officials and a Grafton deputy went to the home a month ago and found the cats in horrible living conditions. The court order followed numerous complaints about the health hazard of the woman\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities haven\u2019t charged the woman but are investigating.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The closing of Alco stores around the central U.S. affects nearly two dozen communities in the Dakotas.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The small-town discount retailer is closing after a U.S. Bankruptcy court in Dallas approved an order by the company&#8217;s creditors to shutter its stores.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Texas-based company was established in 1901 and grew to operate 198 stores in 23 states, selling home furnishings, outdoor products, electronics, sporting goods and clothing.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the Dakotas, Alco stores have operated in smaller cities, such as Lead (leed) and Mobridge in South Dakota and Watford City and Langdon in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An independent panel that has been reviewing the Fargo Police Department&#8217;s disciplinary policies and morale has presented its findings.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe \u00a0panel&#8217;s recommendations include improving communication among staff, setting up a balanced disciplinary procedure with checks and balances, providing a strong message of support to staff and examining pay scales.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The findings presented to the City Commission come two weeks after the resignation of Police Chief Keith Ternes.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The panel was established after some former officers raised concerns about morale and administrative oversight. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm says the state is set to receive more than $25,000 as part of a multi-state life insurance settlement with Symetra Life and Symetra National Life Insurance Companies.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hamm on Tuesday said seven states including North Dakota have reached a $1.2 million agreement with the insurer related to its use of the Social Security Administration&#8217;s Death Master File.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Symetra used the file to search for and stop payments to annuity holders, but didn&#8217;t use it to identify deceased life-insurance policyholders to pay their beneficiaries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The insurer has agreed to implement a number changes under the settlement. (AP) &#8211; Students at Minot High School&#8217;s Central Campus packed up more than 8,500 canned goods and other food items to honor the memory of a classmate who was killed while hunting.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fifteen-year-old Alex Lutes was killed Nov. 8 while hunting with his father in McLean County.
