Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Rural Fire Department responded to a house fire about 10:36 a.m., Wednesday at 8394 32nd Street Southeast.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire was a dryer outlet in the main floor utility room. Damage was confined to the dryer, along with the electrical outlet and the wall behind it.<\/p>\n

Ten rural firefighters and four units were on the scene for about\u00a0 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Tourism\u2019s Grant\/Executive Advisory Board met Wednesday at the CSi Technology Center, at Historic Franklin School.<\/p>\n

The Executive Board voted to proceed with plans for a community calendar.<\/p>\n

A sub-committee will be formed and have their first meeting after the first of the year.<\/p>\n

The Executive Advisory Board also approved setting aside the unused 2014 grant funds, estimated at about $5,900, for future maintenance\/repairs on The World\u2019s Largest Buffalo at Frontier Village.<\/p>\n

The Board also approved allocating $10,000 for the 2015 \u00a0community fireworks display, to be held on the 4th<\/sup> of July.<\/p>\n

With Grant approvals, the board approved a $1,500 for the James River Firefighters Association, which will host the North Dakota Firefighters state convention in Jamestown to be held June 4-6, 2015.<\/p>\n

The request was for $1,199, listed as the total cost of the program. The dollars will be used for paying fuel costs, and motel expenses for two organizations.<\/p>\n

One is the Aberdeen Fire Department\u2019s Pipe & Drum Corps, and the other dollars will be used to bring “Vivian” the Pink Fire Truck from Bismarck, to the event, which includes mileage and motel expenses for the driver.<\/p>\n

The truck promotes cancer awareness, and JRFD spokesman Brian Paulson said the truck could be used in conjunction with that weekend\u2019s Relay for Life, and the R.M. Stoudt Running of the Pink cancer awareness\/fundraising events in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Other events planned include a Memorial Service and a parade of fire trucks.<\/p>\n

Another grant was approved for the Jamestown Classic Car Club\u2019s “Winter Wheels Car Show.” The request was for $6,000, of the $8,000 total program costs, and the board approved granting $3,000 with the stipulation that 30% be used for advertising.<\/p>\n

The Car Club\u2019s President, Jack Meikle said additional expenses for this show includes bringing in a customized car, a virtual driving experience simulator, and a classic Auburn car. The expenses include motel rooms for the drivers, and fuel.<\/p>\n

In Other business the Board approved the year end Bonus for Tourism employees, and the 2014 Stutsman County Mill Levy.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Gov. Jack Dalrymple wants lawmakers to approve new employees for law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He says most of the jobs are needed because of the expansion of North Dakota’s oil production.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple on Wednesday presented the Legislature with a $15.7 billion proposed budget for state government over the next two years.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple is asking for $90.5 million for state and local law enforcement agencies, including 19 new positions at the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and four new Highway Patrol troopers.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota’s Department of Mineral Resources would get 22 new jobs, including petroleum engineers and inspectors.
\n\u00a0

\u00a0DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – Police in North Dakota have identified the 1\u00a0 1\/2-year-old boy who died Sunday at a hospital after nearly drowning in a bathtub. Devils Lake Police have identified the boy as Jaxsen Veralrud. \u00a0He had been hospitalized since nearly drowning on November 17th. Authorities do not suspect foul play.<\/p>\n

GRASSY BUTTE, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have identified a man who was killed in the collision of two trucks in the western North Dakota oil patch.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says 23-year-old Lucas Bennett of Dickinson was a passenger in a pickup truck that collided with a larger Freightliner straight truck near Grassy Butte Tuesday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The patrol says the pickup truck’s driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer, the truck spun on the icy shoulder of the road and entered the path of the straight truck.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The two drivers both were taken to a Watford City hospital with undisclosed injuries.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A judge says a Texas man accused of selling chemicals that led to the synthetic drug overdoses of two Grand Forks-area teens missed his window for appeal.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Charles Carlton was sentenced in August to 20 years in prison on three counts, including conspiracy to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Carlton was one of 15 defendants convicted in an investigation dubbed “Operation Stolen Youth.” Authorities say the hallucinogens killed 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and 17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minnesota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Carlton says his lawyer failed to help with the appeal and that’s why he missed a Sept. 17 deadline.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson says he could extend the appeal deadline by 30 days, but that would still be too late for Carlton.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Three defendants in the 2013 fatal stabbing of a North Dakota man have pleaded guilty to lesser charges.\u00a0 Jennifer Blue, Vincent Gladue and Thomas Begg have entered guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit burglary and criminal facilitation. They originally faced murder and burglary conspiracy charges in the death of 33-year-old Ruben Cisneros, the ex-boyfriend of Blue.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Officials are searching the Sheyenne River in West Fargo for a missing snowmobiler.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police in West Fargo say friends of 34-year-old Cole Schwindt reported him missing Tuesday night when he failed to meet them to go snowmobiling. Divers later found the snowmobile submerged in the river.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0Authorities believe the snowmobile plunged through thin ice or into open water.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The search for Schwindt was suspended Wednesday evening, but it is expected to resume Friday. It was not immediately clear why no search will be conducted Thursday.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Schwindt is from Moorhead, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man accused of tying a noose around the necks of his ex-wife and son and pulling them behind an SUV has filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea.

\nIsaac Gould has withdrawn the plea he made in July to charges involving his wife as part of a plea agreement that would drop the same charges of abusing his son.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A judge had accepted the plea deal, but court documents show Gould has refused to cooperate with the mandatory pre-sentencing investigation.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Records show prosecutors believe Gould has no valid reason to withdraw his plea.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the incident happened in July 2013.\u00a0 Gould’s current wife, who was sitting inside the SUV, eventually got out of the vehicle and untied the nooses.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Funeral services have been set for three-term Fargo mayor and longtime public works director Dennis Walaker.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 73-year-old Walaker died Tuesday in his home, several months after he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He told city employees that he was returning to work this week after spending a couple of days in the hospital for an adverse reaction to chemotherapy.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) – A man who was severely burned while working at an American Crystal Sugar plant last year has filed a lawsuit that accuses the company of negligence.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kevin Birnbaum was a contract worker at the East Grand Forks plant when the accident happened during an employee lockout in January 2013. The lawsuit filed in Clay County District Court says Birnbaum suffered second- and third-degree burns when he was sprayed with scalding beet juice.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Birnbaum wants more than $2.5 million in compensation. KFGO-AM says Birnbaum is also seeking damages from Wanzek Construction, the designer and manufacturer of the equipment involved.

The North Dakota Department of Health says operator Continental Resources, Incorporated has reported that the brine spilled was caused by a gasket leak on a brine pipeline. The spill happened in Divide County about six miles northwest of McGregor.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The city of Minot is competing for part of nearly $1 billion in federal grant money to boost flood recovery efforts in the Souris River Basin.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 City Manager Lee Staab says Minot will enter the National Disaster Resiliency Competition for a share of the money being distributed in December 2015.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Housing and Urban Development program is designed to help communities continue recovery and enhance resilience for future disasters. Communities that experienced natural disasters from 2011 to 2013 are eligible to compete.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Souris River in June 2011 swamped part of Minot, damaging or destroying more than 4,000 homes and other structures and causing nearly $700 million in damage.

\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck-area authorities have euthanized a moose that they say had caused property damage and traffic problems. Mandan Police Chief Dennis Bullinger says the animal died Tuesday afternoon. Police say they had received eight reports of the moose being within city limits. Meat from the animal was donated to local food banks and the Sportsman Against Hunger Program.<\/p>\n

With the loss the Jimmies (25-8) will not advance to the 12-team tournament portion of the tournament.<\/p>\n

At 0-2 in pool play, the Jimmies will play 19th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Thursday night at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

Northwestern and Missouri Baptist, are 2-0 in pool play, and advance to the bracket\/elimination round.<\/p>\n

He was a native of Luverne, Minnesota. Helling was UND’s head coach from 1957 to 1967, winning nearly two-thirds of his games.<\/p>\n

Markakis hit .290 with 141 homers and 658 RBIs in nine seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. He’s expected to replace outfielder Jason Heyward, who was traded to St. Louis last month.
