Governor Drew Wrigley visited Jamestown Monday with stops at Cherrington and Cavendish Farms.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the afternoon he campaigned door to door with District 12 Republican Senate candidate Bernie Satrom, and House candidates Alex Looysen and Ken Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Wrigley said, &#8220;It\u2019s been a terrific year so far for Gov. Dalrymple and me campaigning across North Dakota on the Republican ticket with our fantastic fellow candidates. We\u2019re working hard every day, talking to folks about the future, about how far we\u2019ve come as a state and about the progress we know is ahead.<\/p>\n<p>He added, &#8220;We are proud to be writing the next great chapter for North Dakota.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Governor Jack Dalrymple and Lt. News) \u2014 A presentation with information on the Valley City sales tax renewal advisory vote and a discussion concerning the $31 million National Guard Interstate 94 development was shown live Monday, (Oct 29, 2012) on CSi Cable 68, and now showing in replays, on Channel 68..<\/p>\n<p>Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist gave the presentation, focusing on the Valley City Sales Tax renewal, and information on the National Guard expansion project, along with industrial\/commercial development opportunities including the I-94 Regional Development Corridor, east of the John Deere Seeding Group plant.<\/p>\n<p>With the Valley City Sales tax, 70 percent of the 1 percent tax goes to economic development, 25 percent for property tax relief, and 5 percent for service and retail image enhancement.<\/p>\n<p>The Sales Tax extension would keep the tax in effect through December 31, 2029.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Feist added the tax extension affords for long term financing, for long term needs.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the presentation included saying 23-35 soldiers will be based in Valley City, with the $3.6 million investment.<\/p>\n<p>The facility includes 110,000 square feet, with a readiness center, maintenance area, and storage facility.<\/p>\n<p>The Guard will also hold weekend drills at the facility.<\/p>\n<p>She said, a 77 acre tract of land owned by the Stan Ryan family will be annexed into Valley City for construction of the new National Guard facility and future development.<\/p>\n<p>On the land, 30 acres will be dedicated to the private sector, 20 acres for the National Guard, with direct access to I-94 Exit 294.<\/p>\n<p>The eastside of the land will be available for commercial\/industrial development.<\/p>\n<p>She said utilities will be run to the facility, by boring under I-94.<\/p>\n<p>She added, other funding sources will include Tax Increment Financing estimated at $1.25 million and $1.5 million in federal EDA funding.<\/p>\n<p>Other funding sources will include state CDBG Funds, dollars from the NDDOT, and the National Guard will provide cost sharing of some of the infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses will all fund a portion of the infrastructure through property taxes.<\/p>\n<p>The South Central Dakota Region Council will also be involved.<\/p>\n<p>The closing is expected no later than December 14, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Planning and design will take place in early 2013, with bidding expected in late 2013, or early 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2014, with completion of the infrastructure in the fall of 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City Auditor, Avis Richter reminds voters, that absentee ballots for the City Sales Tax extension, Advisory vote are at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The absentee ballots for the General Election are at the Barnes County Courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>On election day Valley City residents will vote at their regular precincts, for both the advisory vote and the General Election.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; Jamestown College Theatre will open the 2012-13 season with the musical comedy &#8220;The Drowsy Chaperone,&#8221; by Lisa Lambert, Don McKellar, Bob Martin and Gret Morrison. (AP) &#8211; A man accused of cooking up synthetic drugs that led to the overdose deaths of two teens has pleaded guilty in federal court.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Andrew Spofford is charged with five counts, including<br \/>\nconspiracy to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious<br \/>\nbodily injury and death.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The complaint describes Spofford as &#8220;a leader, organizer,<br \/>\nmanager, and supervisor&#8221; in the conspiracy to deal drugs in the<br \/>\nGrand Forks area.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say he manufactured the drugs by mixing chemicals ordered through the mail.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say 18-year-old Christian Bjerk (bee-URK) and 17-year-old<br \/>\nElijah Stai died within a week of each other in June after<br \/>\ningesting the hallucinogens.<\/p>\n<p>Other people reportedly required medical treatment.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 22-year-old Spofford faces a maximum sentence of life in<br \/>\nprison and a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years. Sentencing is<br \/>\nJan. 24.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; PepsiCo is ending its bottling operation in Fargo, a move that will eliminate 16 jobs.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PepsiCo spokesman Vincent Bozek\u00a0says \u00a0the company will cease bottling<br \/>\noperations on Tuesday. The company&#8217;s 302 warehouse and sales staff<br \/>\nwill not be affected.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He says the 16 people who will lose their jobs will be offered<br \/>\nrelocation assistance and career coaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bozek says the bottling that was being done in Fargo will be<br \/>\nmoved to other parts of the country&#8217;s North American bottling<br \/>\nnetwork.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bozek says it was a tough decision to close the bottling<br \/>\noperation, but it was one that was necessary for the long-term<br \/>\nhealth of PepsiCo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. The site wasn&#8217;t<br \/>\nimmediately announced.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heitkamp is running against Republican U.S. Rep. Rick Berg to<br \/>\nsucceed departing Sen. Kent Conrad.
