DAZEY, N.D. (AP) – A rollover crash near Dazey over the weekend killed one man and injured another.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 33-year-old Brent Siverson, of Casselton, was a passenger in a pickup truck that went out of control on state Highway 26, went into a ditch, vaulted off an intersecting county road, rolled, and came to rest upside down.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The crash happened about 8:45 p.m. Saturday. Siverson was thrown from the pickup and died at the scene.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The patrol says 30-year-old Christopher Weller, of Dazey, was driving the pickup and was pinned inside after the crash. He was taken to a Fargo hospital with unspecified injuries.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The report says alcohol was involved in this crash.<\/p>\n

Bismarck (CSi) The National Weather Service reports that for the James River basin, the flood outlook ranges from normal to well below normal flood chances, for the next few weeks based on basin conditions as of January 23, 2015.<\/p>\n

Currently, the frost depth is not nearly as deep as a year ago, at around 30 inches. The Weather Service says at this time there is no unusual risk.<\/p>\n

Snowpack at this time and its water equivalent is reported to nearly and inch to a few small areas of two inches in the upper James River basin.<\/p>\n

The Weather Service says soil levels that were high for most of last summer have dropped to a more normal range due to a warm and dry September and October of 2014.<\/p>\n

Ice thickness is near normal to a little below normal, suggesting that problems associated with excessive ice are also not at levels seen in the past few years.<\/p>\n

As of January 23rd<\/sup> the 6-10- and 8-14 day temperature outlook reflects warmer than normal temperatures with a shift to more normal temps in early February.<\/p>\n

Precipitation is forecast at elevated, but not suggesting any significant amounts.<\/p>\n

Major rivers and lakes are all within their normal ranges for this time of the year, and all flood control reservoirs are all with their normal range.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) A few tickets remained at last report to Thursday January 29, 2015\u2019s Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Annual Banquet.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, the Chamber\u2019s Executive, Becky Thatcher-Keller said, to contact the chamber office as soon as possible to reserve tickets, while they last.<\/p>\n

There will be awards given out along with entertainment, and the event is catered by Emma Rosies in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The Local and Regional Issues committee is planning Legislative Forum on Saturday\u00a0February 21,\u00a02015<\/strong> from 9-11- a.m. at City Hall in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

In other notes, Becky said Two Rivers Printing was the Business After Hours location in January and also was given the January Business of the Month, award.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that the annual Ag-Luncheon, is on March 17, 2015, and the Home and Garden Show is set for April 18-19 at the Jamestown Civic Center. She added if the weather cooperates some larger displays may be able to be in Civic Center parking lot.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Kasidy Tibke, a sophomore at Valley City Public Schools has set a lofty Barnes County Relay for Life fundraising goal.<\/p>\n

She’s looking for support to reach her goal of $5,000.<\/p>\n

Kasidy has been counting down for the event, on June 12, 2015, and, mentally preparing to shave her head, in the name of RFL and cancer research.<\/p>\n

Her hair, will be donated, and all funds raised going to Barnes County Relay for Life.<\/p>\n

Kasidy along with her family have been ‘relaying’ since 2000 as her grandfather was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1999, with a second diagnosis in 2006. He passed away in 2012 from leukemia, and her aunt was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2009, and her father in 2010 was diagnosed with colon cancer.<\/p>\n

Then in 2013 her uncle was diagnosed with lung cancer.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Interstate Engineering Board of Directors announced the promotion of Kristin Syverson to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective immediately. This is a newly established position within the organization.<\/p>\n

Syverson joined Interstate Engineering in 2011 as Interstate Engineering\u2019s Marketing Coordinator. In 2013, Ms. Syverson was promoted to Office Manager and Accounting Manager for the Jamestown and Corporate offices.<\/p>\n

Daren Peterka, Chairman of the Board for Interstate Engineering, stated, “With the growth of the company, the Board of Directors felt it necessary to develop a senior management position to oversee the financial activities of Interstate Engineering. The position will work with the Office Managers, Regional Vice-Presidents and other managers to continue developing an organized and profitable financial structure including financial planning, record keeping and reporting to the Board of Directors.”<\/p>\n

Syverson earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management from the University of North Dakota. Additionally, she holds Master of Business Administration degree.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Rural Leadership of ND Class VI 2013-2015, comprised of 18 North Dakotans, met with North Dakota leaders during the “Understanding North Dakota Ag and Rural Policies” seminar in Bismarck January 14-16.<\/p>\n

Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corporation\u2019s Vice President of Economic Development, Holly Miller, is part of RLND Class VI. Leaders such as ND Department of Commerce Director Al Anderson, Connie Sprynczynatyk, Jerry Doan, Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring, Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger, Majority Leader Representative Al Carlson, Majority Leader Senator Rich Wardner, Governor Dalrymple, and Lieutenant Governor Drew Wrigley spoke to the RLND class over the course of the three-day seminar. The class had the opportunity to join Legislators during session and Holly Miller sat on the House floor with Senator Casper during session on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The RLND class participated in a Legislative social where ND Legislators learned more about Rural Leadership of ND class members and members were able to visit with Legislators on important topics. The RLND class met with leaders at the Great River Energy office and visited the Bobcat Company Acceleration Center, Bank of ND, the State Capitol and the Heritage Center during the Bismarck seminar. The next seminar “Understanding International Ag and Community Issues” will be held in February in Costa Rica and Panama. The group will tour the countries and visit places such as EARTH University and work on local family farms.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi )\u00a0 Stemming\u00a0 from the successful rescue at the Kensal grain elevator, on January 15th, regional fire and rescue departments will train in grain bin extrication.<\/p>\n

The Kensal\u00a0\u00a0Fire Department will host a training session with Dale Eckhardt, a grain bin extrication training specialist, on Wednesday, next week. \u00a0Fire and rescue departments from McHenry, Glenfield, Wimbledon, Courtenay and Pingree next week, will participate along with\u00a0Carrington.<\/p>\n

No one at the Kensal elevator was trained in grain extrication, as there hadn\u2019t been an incident like this.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0\u00a0 Kensal Farmers Elevator Co. is\u00a0 now working with the fire department to purchase a set of grain extrication tube sections.<\/p>\n

Kensal Farmers Elevator Co. general manager Cris Breidenbach says a set of grain extrication tubes costs about $2,200.<\/p>\n

Breidenbach says the company is splitting the cost with the Kensal Fire Department for grain extrication equipment and training.<\/p>\n

About 12:30 p.m. the Kensal Fire Department was called to the scene as the elevator is in its response area, along with the\u00a0Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office and the Carrington Volunteer Fire and Rescue.<\/p>\n

Dave Jones\u00a0\u00a0was trapped up to his chest in beans in\u00a0the \u00a0grain bin.<\/p>\n

Jones was taken by\u00a0Carrington Ambulance . Jones was transported to Carrington Health Center and released a short time later.<\/p>\n

Th rescue involves the \u00a0use of two sets of grain bin extrication tubes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Breidenbach says Jones was wearing all the proper safety equipment when he went into the bin on January\u00a0\u00a015th.<\/p>\n

Other grain elevators in the region do have grain bin extrication equipment and training, and the\u00a0Jamestown Rural Fire Department has grain extrication rescue equipment including a set of the tubes and members who are extrication certified.<\/p>\n

Jamestown City Fire Department, Training Officer, Lt. Sheldon Mohr,\u00a0says the department doesn\u2019t have a grain extrication tube, and the firefighters haven\u2019t been trained in grain extrication procedures.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Dickinson police say a couple has been found shot to death in the basement of a home. Police officers and an ambulance crew were called to the home late Friday and found 35-year-old Angelique Spenser and 53-year-old Steven Parker.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot police say a man who crashed a vehicle into a teller window at a bank apparently suffered a medical problem before the incident.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 73-year-old man was taken to a hospital after the crash about 11 a.m. Sunday. Authorities did not identify him or provide information on his condition.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the man’s vehicle struck a car in a store parking lot and then continued on, eventually crashing into the teller window at Bremer Bank. No one was hurt.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man serving time on a racketeering charge is accused of walking away from a Fargo halfway house.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kieron Kier is charged in federal court with escape from custody. Authorities say he was signed out from Centre Inc. on a weekend pass in November and never returned.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kier was arrested on Jan. 13 in White Earth, Minnesota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kier was convicted for conspiracy to participate in racketeering activities and sentenced in July 2013 to more than three years in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Arraignment on the escape charge is scheduled Thursday in Fargo. A federal public defender was not available for comment.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say an Arizona man convicted of robbing a North Dakota bank should be sentenced to 14 years in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sentencing is scheduled Monday in Bismarck for Sean Nichols, who pleaded guilty in September to bank robbery. He was arrested for robbing the Dakota Community Bank in Bismarck in May.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Nichols got away with $7,000. All but $1,700 was recovered.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say in court documents that Nichols is a career offender who deserves a stiff sentence. He was convicted of robbing two banks in Tucson in 2004.
\n\u00a0

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Atti’s Eats pet pantry is now providing assistance to pet owners. The Bismarck-based pantry provides food for cats and dogs across the state.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Founder Alison Smith says she was inspired to open the pantry after she rescued an extremely thin dog covered in porcupine quills last year.

The pledge comes after a 3-million gallon leak near Williston. Democrats say the legislation may be similar to what a Republican pushed two years ago but was defeated after resistance from oil companies.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota health officials are reminding residents to test their homes for radon, a leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Justin Otto is the Indoor Air Quality and Radon Program Coordinator for the North Dakota Department of Health. Otto says radon is a cancer-causing, naturally occurring radioactive gas that can’t be seen, smelled or tasted and is found throughout the soil in North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Health officials say months with cold weather are a good time to test homes for radon. Otto says 63 percent of North Dakota homes have an elevated radon level. Mitigation systems can be installed to lower the level.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Otto says more than 21,000 people die every year in the U.S. due to radon-related illnesses.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) University of Jamestown head men’s soccer coach Tommy Nienhaus has announced the signing of Austin Peterson of Davies High School who will join the Jimmies in the 2015-2016 season.<\/p>\n

Peterson (Fargo, ND) was Team MVP during his 10th<\/sup>, 11th<\/sup>, and 12th<\/sup> grade years, he was Team Captain and All EDC during his 11th<\/sup> and 12th<\/sup> grade years, and was on the All-State Tournament Team during his 11th<\/sup> grade year. Peterson is also on the A honor roll at Davies High School and is a National Honor Society Member.<\/p>\n

Coach Nienhaus says of Peterson, “Austin fits exactly what we look for in a recruit. Good student, good person, good player. Austin will help us as he brings an adept touch for a big guy. He\u2019ll help us defensively as either a center back or as a holding midfielder. Looking forward to working with him.”<\/p>\n

Peterson plans to major in Business.<\/p>\n
