Hanson passed away Wednesday February 4, 2015, at the age of 67.

“Betsy and I are saddened by the news of Robert’s passing. (AP) – A judge has dismissed a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge against a Williston man who drove a truck displaying photos of aborted fetuses during the election season last fall.

Robert Rudnick was advocating for a ballot measure that would defined the “inalienable right to life” to be at “any stage of development.” Voters defeated the measure in the November election.

Williston police alleged that Rudnick continued to display the photos in city limits after agreeing to stop.

After his arrest in late July, Rudnick reached out to a Catholic nonprofit legal group that helps people in cases involving same-sex marriage, abortion and religious expression. The Thomas More Society argued that freedom of speech applies to vehicles such as Rudnick’s.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The impact of Minot Air Force Base on the region’s economy shrank a bit last year but remained well above half a billion dollars.

Base officials estimate the impact in fiscal 2014 at just under $578 million, down about $6 million from 2013.

Lt. Col. Ray Castro says the decrease was due mainly to budget and personnel cuts Air Force-wide.

There was nearly a 7 percent drop over the year in airmen, dependents and civilian workers at the Minot base. Payroll dropped $6.3 million, to about $357 million.

MANDAN, N.D. The event is hosted by the department and the North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Association.

The Hunger Free ND Garden Project was started through the local foods initiative of the department along with the Great Plains Food Bank.

The statewide project encourages home gardeners and commercial growers to plant extra produce each year to donate.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Game and Fish Department says its annual midwinter waterfowl survey indicates more birds in the state compared to the past couple of winters.

Migratory game bird biologist Mike Szymanski says about 87,700 Canada geese were observed on the Missouri River, and another 30,600 were scattered on Nelson Lake.

He says 145,200 Canada geese and mallard ducks were tallied statewide. That compares with 71,500 birds in last year’s midwinter survey.

Szymanski says conditions leading up to this year’s survey in January were highly variable, but lower-than-average snow conditions resulted in more birds in the state.

In sports..

Jamestown (CSi) University of Jamestown head men’s football coach Shawn Frank has announced the signing of Cameron Scrimgeour of Arlington High School who will join the Jimmies in the 2015-2016 season.

Scrimgeour (Arlington, Wa) is 6’2″ tall and weighs in at 215 pounds. He did not provide a timetable for his decision.

Peterson has been suspended at least through April 15 after he was charged in a child abuse case last year, a case he resolved with a plea bargain.

NFLPA attorney Jeffrey Kessler said arbitrator Harold Henderson’s rejection of Peterson’s appeal was biased.
