Contributions to over 287 area charities participating this year surpassed last year\u2019s total of $5.67 million.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Frontier Village Association has voted to approve hiring Nichole Mosolf, as its new manager.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s the daughter of association member and former Manager, Tina Busche<\/p>\n<p>Former manager Colleen Conley resigned last month for health reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Tanata, association president, said Mosolf was the only applicant for the position.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s employed as a paraeducator at Jamestown High School.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s a member of the Wild West Players, and has volunteered at Frontier Village .<\/p>\n<p>The Village&#8217;s board has approved submitting three grant requests to Jamestown Tourism at their meeting later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Included is a grant request for $34,930 to staff Frontier Village during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>Another is a grant request is for $14,025 for the horse operations run by Karen George during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>Also to be requested to tourism is $5,642 for the association&#8217;s Pioneer Days celebration planned for August 15-16, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Most of that grant, $4,000, will be used to cover the cost of having Ryan Keplin, his band and dancers from Belcourt, N.D., perform two shows on Aug. 15 in the amphitheater.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Spiritwood Energy Park Association (SEPA) Board of Directors has unanimously accepted a $785,000 loan from the Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>The dollars will cover the cost of an automated switch BNSF is requiring between the Energy Park Association\u2019s rail loop and the BNSF mainline.<\/p>\n<p>The 12-year loan carries a zero percent interest and has a two-year deferral on repayment of principal.<\/p>\n<p>BNSF is requiring the payment no later than March 31, 2015\u00a0to begin service to the rail loop.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Mrs. North Dakota America Eliza Potratz of Jamestown,<\/p>\n<p>and her Adopt an Angel program presents The Great Gatsby Gala on Saturday February 14, 2015, at the Gladstone Inn &amp; Suites.<\/p>\n<p>The event begins with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m. with the dance at 8 p.m. Saturday. Costumes are optional.<\/p>\n<p>There is no cost to attend the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Roarin\u2019 \u201920s style event is a freewill fundraiser for Adopt an Angel.<\/p>\n<p>She started the charity two years ago in honor of her father, a retired police officer and Vietnam veteran.<\/p>\n<p>Eliza says four 2015 Mrs. North Dakota contestants will be on hand to help with the event.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will include a silent auction, dance, photos with props, candy bar and the chance to write your Valentine a love letter.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that a dinner previously planned as part of the event will not be held.<\/p>\n<p>This year, funds raised will benefit veteran Jim Stone, who was Eliza\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>college adviser, professor of criminal justice and sociology at the University of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The funds will go to Jamestown Regional Medical Center\u2019s Hospice Program.<\/p>\n<p>She said, Stone\u2019s wife recently passed away from cancer.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that she helps veterans because both of her parents are veterans and has seen local veterans needs.<\/p>\n<p>She chooses different primary beneficiaries every year. Last year, a fundraiser, &#8220;Rock to Adopt,&#8221; benefited the Adopt an Angel<\/p>\n<p>From that she was able to donate $1,000 to the Cops N Kids, along with Christmas stockings filled with goodies and toys for children at Lincoln Elementary School and gift cards to some at the Salvation Army.<\/p>\n<p>She hopes to raise at least $5,000, this year.<\/p>\n<p>After her reign as Mrs. North Dakota, America ends in May this year, she hopes to continue to have the annual fundraiser for her Adopt an Angel program.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the fundraiser, email<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><a href=\"mailto:adoptanangel@gmail.com\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">adoptanangel@gmail.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> or call Eliza Potratz at (701) 368-0150.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Also an account for donations is set up at Gate City Bank.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Washington (CSi) Senator John Hoeven has announced that North Dakota housing authorities have received more than $1.8 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development\u2019s (HUD) Capital Fund Program.<\/p>\n<p>The funds are for capital and management activities to help modernize and develop public housing as well as pay down debt if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>In the area, the Barnes County Housing Authority received $50,791<\/p>\n<p>Hoeven says, &#8220;The demand for affordable housing in North Dakota, especially in western North Dakota, will hold strong over the long term. These HUD grants will help us ensure that we have public housing to meet the needs of our expanding workforce and population.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Choralaires 60th Anniversary Concert is set for two evenings, March 6, 7, 2015 at the Jamestown High School auditorium<\/p>\n<p>Both performances will be at 7:30-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are adults $10 and students $4.<\/p>\n<p>Joining the Choralaires will be the Jamestown Boys&#8217; Choir, and the Jamestown High School Men&#8217;s Ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available from any Choralaires member, a Boys Choir member, or at Looysen I Care on 1st Avenue, South, and at the door.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Update\u2026<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2013 A Jamestown lawmaker is pushing a measure that would exempt dairy and swine operations from North Dakota\u2019s anti-corporate farming law.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sen. Terry Wanzek says dairy and hog farm operations are in serious decline in North Dakota and his bill is aimed at saving those industries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The legislation would allow corporations to operate dairy and hog farms, as long as the operations don\u2019t take up more than 640 acres of land.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne says his group is against the legislation. Watne says \u201cindividuals should own the land and animals in North Dakota.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state\u2019s anti-corporate farming law dates back to 1932. It now allows corporations with as many as 15 shareholders to own farms or ranches, as long as the shareholders are related.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck (CSi) The Public Input Meeting scheduled for February 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Jamestown High School is cancelled and will be scheduled at a later date. The meeting was to discuss proposed improvement for ND Highway 20 from the Jamestown urban limits extending north 21.3 miles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Carrington (CSi) The Foster County Commission is seeking applicants for four county positions following three resignations and a firing.<\/p>\n<p>County Auditor Casey Cables says Dana Scherr, the county tax equalization director, submitted a letter of resignation dated January 29, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>She has been county tax equalization director since May 2013, but has worked for the county for 16 and a half years.<\/p>\n<p>Also on February 4<sup>th<\/sup> Deputy Auditor, Heather Martin, and Deputy Treasurer and 9-1-1 coordinator, Brenda Hoeckle, resigned.<\/p>\n<p>Neither gave a reason for resigning.<\/p>\n<p>Other recent resignations has led to the filling of those Foster County positions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The nonprofit Farm Rescue is accepting applications from farmers who need help with spring planting.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota-based group assists family farmers in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa and eastern Montana.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Farm Rescue sets up camp on the farms of injured or ill farmers, doing their planting or harvesting work rather than handing out money. The group also assists farmers who have been victims of natural disasters.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Volunteers help the farmers plant and harvest up to 1,000 acres of crops free of charge.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The nonprofit was started in 2006 and it has helped hundreds of families.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The organization says priority will be given to applications received by March 31.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Grand Forks firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire at a building under construction on the University of North Dakota campus.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Firefighters evacuated UND&#8217;s athletics High Performance Center about 11 a.m. Thursday while they extinguished smoldering foam insulation on the roof.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No one was hurt, and construction workers were allowed back on scene about 1:30 p.m. A damage estimate was not released.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The $17.8 million facility is being built on the site of the school&#8217;s old hockey arena, near the football stadium. It will be a training facility for athletes in all sports, as well as a competition venue for track and field<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A 30-year-old Dickinson man is dead following a head-on crash in western North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the incident happened when a pickup truck traveling south on State Avenue in Dickinson failed to maintain its lane and collided with a northbound semi-tanker. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities have not publicly identified the man.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 47-year-old driver of the semi-tanker was not injured.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota State College of Science is seeking more help from the state crime bureaus in North Dakota and Minnesota as campus police continue investigating the death of a student.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The college has issued a statement saying it&#8217;s the &#8220;appropriate next step&#8221; in the investigation into the death of 20-year-old Andrew Sadek. He disappeared last May and his body was found in the Red River in late June. An autopsy concluded he died of a gunshot wound to the head.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sadek was working for a regional drug task force as a confidential informant a few months before he died. His mother, Tammy Sadek, believes he was murdered.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An independent state review concluded that the drug task force handled its dealings with Sadek properly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A man accused in a stabbing death near Grand Forks has pleaded guilty to murder and been sentenced to serve 30 years in prison. Twenty-three-year-old Joe Saucedo was accused in the November 2013 death of 33-year-old Ruben Cisneros, who was found stabbed to death at his rural home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Supreme Court says a man whose record includes 47 felony convictions cannot file an appeal from a 26-year-old case.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Edward Waslaski Jr. pleaded guilty in 1988 to 39 counts of burglary in various counties in North Dakota and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waslaski says his lawyer advised him to plead guilty to multiple charges to ensure a better outcome for a group of co-defendants, rather than look out for his individual interests.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The court said in a ruling released Thursday that a judge was right to throw out Waslaski&#8217;s application for appeal.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waslaski pleaded guilty in 2007 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A contingent of Fargo public officials is meeting with lawmakers in Bismarck about flood control money for North Dakota&#8217;s largest city.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A bill introduced at the start of the session had called for Fargo to receive $120 million that could be used on building dikes and levees within the city limits. But Fargo&#8217;s acting mayor says that funding has been put on hold because of the revised budget projection due to slumping oil revenues.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mayor Tim Mahoney says there&#8217;s a lot of &#8220;running around out there&#8221; because lawmakers aren&#8217;t sure how much money they can put into the bill to help Fargo with its chronic flooding problem.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mahoney says he believes it&#8217;s still possible to break ground in 2016 on a nearly $2 billion Red River Valley diversion project.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Truckers who don&#8217;t use a new $25 million highway bypass around New Town face the prospect of a $1,500 fine.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The city has begun enforcing the new ordinance, to crack down on truck traffic. City Auditor Eileen Zaun says a city official recently observed 45 trucks go through the city in less than half an hour.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Signs have been placed at both ends of town designating the bypass and warning truck drivers about the penalty for not using it.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The ordinance applies to trucks whose weight exceeds 35,000 pounds, with or without a load. Trucks delivering products into the city are exempt.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Construction of the 3.2-mile bypass that diverts truck traffic around New Town&#8217;s Main Street began last spring and wrapped up last fall.<\/p>\n<p>In sports\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) University of Jamestown\u2019s women\u2019s volleyball coach Jon Hegerle announces the signing of Regan Everson of Gettysburg, SD who will join the Jimmies in the 2015-2016 season.<\/p>\n<p>Everson will be a 2015 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Everson, an outside hitter, stands 5\u20198&#8243; tall. Her senior year she had 245 kills, 11 blocks, a .237 hitting percentage, a 94.4% serve percentage, 276 digs, and 24 aces. In high school, she made YTC All Conference two years, the CSDC All-Tournament Team, and was a 3 year starter in Gettysburg\/Hoven Battler Tournaments. In addition to her athletic achievements, Everson is active in Student Council, Girls\u2019 Basketball, Track, Football Cheerleading, FCCLA, One-Act Play, Oral Interpretation and Band.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Hegerle says of Everson, &#8220;I am thrilled that Regan has chosen to continue her education at the University of Jamestown. Regan is an energetic and motivated student athlete. It was evident in watching her play with our team that her energy and effort would be a great asset to our program. Regan is a talented athlete and I look forward to watching her develop in the years to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Everson is excited to start her time at Jamestown as well, as she says, &#8220;I chose this school because right when I arrived I completely fell in love with the campus. There are gorgeous old buildings that make you feel like you\u2019re stepping into a movie screen. The people were very nice and the coach is amazing. I just really felt like it was where I needed to be.&#8221; Everson intends to major in Elementary Education.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Jamestown was established in 1883 and is ranked as a top regional school in both US News and World Report and The Princeton Review. The school features development of the whole person through its distinctive Journey to Success experience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota and Arkansas have changed their schedule for this weekend&#8217;s baseball series in Fayetteville because of falling temperatures and a chance of snow.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The teams had been set to play throughout the weekend but will now play one game Friday afternoon and two on Saturday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fans with single-game tickets for Sunday&#8217;s game can exchange them for Friday&#8217;s game, Saturday&#8217;s double-header or a future game, if tickets for those game are available.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Razorbacks are opening their 93rd baseball season.
