Jamestown (CSi) The City of Jamestown will need the assistance of City residents to complete the required drinking water testing. The testing will start on March 2, 2015. The Water Department will be contacting residents where these samples are required to be taken.<\/p>\n

The city water departments regret any inconvenience; however, the City is required to take these samples according to the ND State Health Department regulations. The water samples must be the first draw of water in the morning at the selected households.<\/p>\n

The city thanks residents for their cooperation in this matter.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) James River Family Fitness Director, Frank Conlin says the facility has planned to host and coordinate events in March.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Conlin pointed out that in conjunction with the Jamestown Basketball Boosters, there will be a Shootout, at various gyms in Jamestown on March 21, 2015.<\/p>\n

Also in March in conjunction with the University of Jamestown, a dual track meet will be held for Jamestown and Valley City High Schools.<\/p>\n

SCUBA lessons will be held at James River Family Fitness set for March 27,28, &29, at the swimming pool.<\/p>\n

He added that Lifeguard Training will be moved up to April this year.<\/p>\n

With other notes Conlin said there were 25 teams that participated in the recent Cabin Fever Days basketball with participants from the area along with South Dakota, Canada, East Grand Forks, Aberdeen, and Bismarck-Mandan.<\/p>\n

He said five teams participated in the first dodge ball tournament, with additional tournaments to be planned next fall and winter.<\/p>\n

RAY, N.D. (AP) – The Ray High School Student Council is asking people to wear lime green during this weekend’s district boys’ basketball tournament in Tioga in memory of three players who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 2 in Williams County.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says the two 17-year-old boys and an 18-year-old were in a westbound pickup truck that left the icy highway Monday night, crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes, where it collided with a semitrailer. Authorities did not immediately release their names.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ray School Superintendent Benjamin Schafer issued a statement saying, “our school will not be whole without them.”<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Burleigh County murder suspect and his public defender both want the attorney taken off the case.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Christopher Vick has pleaded not guilty to murder in the May 2013 death of his 62-year-old mother, Alice Vick.
\n\u00a0
\nVick told Judge Bruce Romanick Tuesday that he doesn’t have proper access to his attorney and that public defender Kerry Rosenquist isn’t meeting his requests.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rosenquist is Vick’s second public defender. Romanick said he made a mistake in letting the first attorney go. He chastised Vick for not listening to attorneys and told him to stick with Rosenquist or represent himself. Vick opted to continue being represented.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rosenquist, meanwhile, wants to be removed from the case, saying Vick’s requests are “beyond the bounds of reality.” Romanick didn’t immediately rule.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A bill that Red River diversion supporters labeled as a roadblock to the Fargo flood protection project had a short shelf life.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Senate on Wednesday brought back the measure that was passed Tuesday by a 24-21 vote and this time rejected it on a 28-19 count.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The proposal by Fairmount Sen. Larry Luick focused on cemeteries that are located in a staging area for the diversion that would hold back water in times of serious flooding. He said the bill is meant to protect the 3,300 gravesites and not derail the nearly $2 billion project.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sen. Lonnie Laffen, of Grand Forks, told lawmakers it would be “absurd” to jeopardize flood protection for 100,000 people and said there are gravesites in the Fargo area that would be protected.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Senate has approved legislation to provide state funding to expand early childhood education.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Senate voted 33-14 on Wednesday to send the measure to the House.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The legislation sets aside $6 million for the 2016-17 school year. The funding is expected to cover about half the cost of pre-kindergarten education for about 6,000 children, or about $1,000 per student.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About $1,500 would be available per child from low-income households.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The program would be voluntary.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota lawmakers have rejected a bill that would have allowed a museum to stay on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Senate has voted 28-18 to reject the measure that would have allowed the Ward County Historical Society to keep its Pioneer Village on the fairgrounds.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The village has a schoolhouse, log cabin, train depot, general store, post office, blacksmith shop and church, among other structures. The State Fair Association wants the museum off the grounds so it can use the property for other purposes.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The historical society believes a 49-year-old contract gives it the right to remain on the land.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The battle also is being fought in the courts, with both sides asking a judge to rule in its favor.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man who leads a successful North Dakota-based brick company has donated $5 million to the School of Business at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most of the donation from Rodney Paseka and his wife, Carolyn, will go toward scholarships for business students. The rest will go for a variety of uses, including research, program development and faculty positions. The university is naming the business school in honor of the Pasekas.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rodney Paseka is co-owner and CEO of Fargo, North Dakota-based Hebron Brick Co. The century-old company distributes brick in 40 states and in Canada. It has seven retail centers in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Both Pasekas attended the Moorhead university.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – United Tribes Technical College is hosting the weigh-in for boxer Virgil Hill’s last fight.<\/p>\n

The five-time world champion from North Dakota is squaring off against Jimmy Campbell on Saturday at the Bismarck Event Center. The weigh-in for that bout and others on the card will be Friday at the college gymnasium. The event begins at 5 p.m. with weigh-ins commencing at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

The 51-year-old Hill says it will be his final fight. Hill won an Olympic silver medal in 1984 and went on to win 50 of 57 fights as a professional in different weight classes. He earned five world titles and made 20 successful title defenses. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013.<\/p>\n

\u00a0NEW YORK (AP) – A federal prosecutor in New York says the flow of foreign fighters into Syria is an “evolving threat” to the U.S. and its allies. Loretta Lynch — who’s President Barack Obama’s choice to be attorney general — was talking about the arrests of three men who are charged with plotting to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group — and to wage war against the U.S. One is in custody in Florida, and the other two are held in New York.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – The Senate’s top Democrat, Harry Reid, says every senator in his party will vote in favor of a measure to fund the Homeland Security Department, once it is stripped of provisions overturning President Barack Obama’s actions on immigration. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has proposed a stand-alone funding bill as a way of breaking a deadlock. But it’s not clear what the House will do. Funding for Homeland Security runs out tomorrow.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – House Republicans have been challenging Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen Wednesday over what they say is a lack of accountability from the central bank. After Yellen gave her semi-annual economic report, Republican lawmakers questioned her opposition to a measure that would expand the ability of Congress to audit the operations of the Fed. And they accused her of being unduly influenced by Democrats. Yellen is defending the Fed’s independence.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PHOENIX (AP) – The case of convicted murderer Jodi Arias has gone to an Arizona jury that will decide if she is sentenced to death or life in prison for killing her boyfriend. The jury got the case after a defense lawyer made his final plea for mercy. Arias was convicted in 2013 of killing Travis Alexander. That jury, however, deadlocked on her punishment, prompting a penalty retrial.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ETNA, Maine (AP) – A woman who was in one of the dozens of vehicles that crashed today in Maine says a logging truck came dangerously close to hitting her, before spinning off into a ditch. More than 40 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes on a snowy stretch of Interstate 95. At least 17 people were hurt — some seriously — but no fatalities have been reported.
