JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) – A 43-year-old Minnesota man is hospitalized in North Dakota after being shot by law officers in Jamestown.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the man fled from an officer who responded to a report of a drunk person at a convenience store shortly after midnight Monday, and rammed two law enforcement vehicles during the ensuing chase.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The police department says officers with the department and the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office eventually shot the man to protect an officer who had approached the man’s vehicle and was in danger of being run over.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities did not immediately identify the man from Tracy, Minnesota, or give details on his condition.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A Jamestown officer and a sheriff’s deputy have been put on leave while the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation looks into the incident. That’s standard procedure.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is warning residents regarding a convicted sex offenders who has again changed his address.<\/p>\n

Matthew Jacob Lee Graham is a 26 year old white male, 5’11” tall weighing 172 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.<\/p>\n

He currently has no vehicle.<\/p>\n

He now lives at 1610 Business Loop East, #2, Jamestown, ND<\/p>\n

He previously resided at 517 4th Street NW , Jamestown ND<\/p>\n

He previously lived at 223 1st Ave South Apt#4 in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

He has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakot Risk Level Committee, of the North Dakota Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

His offense is listed as indecent exposure, stemming from exposing himself to a five year old male family friend.<\/p>\n

He was convicted in April of 2004 in Kidder Count. Disposition: remanded to the Mesabi Academy treatment facility.<\/p>\n

Graham is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.<\/p>\n

This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault or intimidate the offender. Attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders or their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – A federal prisoner who escaped from the jail in Devils Lake over the weekend had access to unsecured areas of the facility.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ramsey County Sheriff Steve Nelson says 35-year-old Wesley Brown III was working as a custodian at the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center when he escaped early Saturday.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brown was in federal custody awaiting sentencing after he pleaded guilty last May to charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and escape. He escaped from a jail in Rugby in June 2013 but was captured within hours.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities believe Brown has fled the Devils Lake region. He is believed to be traveling in a vehicle registered to a corrections officer at the jail, and investigators are trying to determine if the two had a relationship.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Grand Forks man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he neglected a child and attempted to disarm a police officer in Bismarck.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eric Knight is accused of trying to take the gun of an officer who helped conduct a welfare check on a 2-year-old child at a Bismarck hotel on Feb. 8.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorney Jeff Bredahl maintains that officers entered the hotel room without a warrant, and he questions the necessity of the encounter.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bredahl is scheduled for trial in late June on felony charges of child neglect, preventing arrest and attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Senate has confirmed Nicholas Hacker of Bismarck and Greg Stemen of Fort Ransom as members of the state Board of Higher Education.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stemen is president of First State Bank of North Dakota in LaMoure and Marion. He is a former teacher.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stemen will succeed Grand Forks attorney Grant Shaft, whose is stepping down June 30 after serving two four-year terms. That’s the limit allowed under the state constitution.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot State University is beefing up its student recruiting efforts after a four-year slide in enrollment.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 President Steve Shirley wants to see more students from North Dakota at the four-year school, and the university has stepped up recruiting in Ward County.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MSU officials are using a variety of methods, including personal visits, email and social media, targeting both potential students and their parents.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 3,400 students were enrolled at Minot State last fall. That was down about 12 percent from the fall of 2010. Enrollment dropped 5 percent after the June 2011 Souris River flood and has fallen every year since.<\/p>\n

\u00a0NEW YORK (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a U.S. Air Force veteran has been arrested on terrorism charges in a plot to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group. A grand jury indicted Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh (pyoo), of Neptune, New Jersey, on charges of attempting to provide material support to a terrorist group and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors say the 47-year-old tried to travel from Egypt to Turkey to ultimately cross the border into Syria. He had been fired from his most recent job as an airplane mechanic based in the Middle East.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 JERUSALEM (AP) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a last-ditch appeal for votes before polling stations close in a tight election. In a videotaped statement at his office, Netanyahu urges his supporters to get out and vote. He says the gaps between his hawkish Likud (lee-KOOD’) party and the center-left opposition need to be narrowed. Recent opinion polls give the center-left Zionist Union a narrow lead.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PARIS (AP) – French experts have ruled out the theory that radioactive polonium poisoning caused the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in 2004. A prosecutor says there were no traces of polonium 210 in Arafat’s urine during his stay at a French military hospital prior to his death, and that any traces of the substance recorded after his exhumation were “of an environmental origin” in the tomb. Palestinians had long suspected Israel of poisoning him, which Israel denies.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEW YORK (AP) – Health officials say four more medical aid workers have arrived back in the United States from West Africa to be monitored for Ebola. Tuesday’s arrivals bring to 16 the number of aid workers who have returned in the last week from Sierra Leone. None of them have been diagnosed with the disease. All came in contact with a colleague who came down with Ebola last week while working in Africa for Partners in Health, a Boston-based international aid organization. He is in critical condition at a National Institutes of Health hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

But federal forecasters say there could be some temporary disruptions to power grids and GPS tracking. The Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado, says two blasts of magnetic plasma left the sun on Sunday, combined and arrived on Earth Tuesday much earlier and stronger than expected.
