News Nov 6, 2012) &#8212; Voter turn out for the November 6, 2012 elections was steady.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in Stutsman County were casting ballots at the Jamestown Civic Center.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in Medina, Kensal, and Pingree may also cast ballots in their towns.<\/p>\n<p>At 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Stutsman County C.O.O. Casey Bradley said about 2,800 voters had cast ballots at the Civic Center.<\/p>\n<p>He expected about 5,000 voters to cast ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley said 1,800 absentee ballots were counted at the Stutsman County Courthouse, and more may come in and be counted if they are mailed with a postmark no later than Monday November 5, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>About 2,600 voters in Stutsman County took advantage of Early Voting.<\/p>\n<p>Election worker Jim Thompson said when the polls at the Civic Center opened at 7-a.m., there was a sizable line, and over 100 voters cast their ballots in a 15 minute time frame.<\/p>\n<p>It was noted that there was a good turnout of college students.<\/p>\n<p>The polls close at 7-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0About 75 people lined up outside the Bismarck Civic Center early<br \/>\nTuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-six-year-old salesman Kurt Triplett was among them.<br \/>\nHe says worries about the economy brought him out to vote.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The auditor of a northwest North Dakota<br \/>\noil boom town says a steady stream of voters is flocking to the<br \/>\npolls.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ray Auditor Kim Steffan says dozens of people made it to the<br \/>\npolls within an hour after they opened Tuesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Steffan says the town&#8217;s population has jumped from 500 to more<br \/>\nthan 1,200 in the past four years because of the oil boom in the<br \/>\nregion. She says more longtime locals came to the polls Tuesday<br \/>\nmorning but she expects many of the new oil workers in town to vote<br \/>\nafter they get off work.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thousands of people have moved to North Dakota to work in the<br \/>\nstate&#8217;s booming oil patch. And both Democrats and Republicans have<br \/>\nattempted to attract their votes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota residents have broken a<br \/>\nrecord for early voting for the second straight presidential<br \/>\nelection.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 130,000 people had already voted in the state before<br \/>\npolling locations even opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday, smashing the<br \/>\nrecord set in 2008 by about 10,000 votes.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 90,000 of this year&#8217;s early voters cast ballots by mail.<br \/>\nAnother 40,000 visited early voting precincts.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Historically, presidential elections draw far more voters than<br \/>\nmidterm elections. President Barack Obama did not carry heavily<br \/>\nRepublican North Dakota in 2008 and is not expected to this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Many North Dakota candidates say they<br \/>\nwon&#8217;t be campaigning Tuesday even though a state law that bars it<br \/>\nhas been put on hold.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A federal judge ruled last week that North Dakota&#8217;s law against<br \/>\ncampaigning on Election Day cannot be enforced on Tuesday. In past<br \/>\nelections, the law has deterred candidates from buying Election Day<br \/>\nads and leaving up campaign signs in supporters&#8217; yards.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Democratic state Senate candidate John Grabinger, of Jamestown,<br \/>\nsays he&#8217;ll still take the day off. Grabinger says that if<br \/>\ncandidates haven&#8217;t made their mark yet, campaigning on Election Day<br \/>\nisn&#8217;t going to help.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Along with state legislative races, voters will be deciding a<br \/>\nhigh-profile U.S. Senate race between Republican Rep. Rick Berg and<br \/>\nDemocrat Heidi Heitkamp, a U.S. House race, and the governor&#8217;s<br \/>\nrace.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND, (KCSi-T.V. (AP Nov 6, 2012) &#8211; A Texas man has pleaded not guilty to<\/p>\n<p>burning down a motel in North Dakota and putting people&#8217;s lives in<\/p>\n<p>danger.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-one-year-old Allen Thomas is charged with one count of<\/p>\n<p>arson and 18 counts of endangering by fire. All of the felony<\/p>\n<p>charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison upon<\/p>\n<p>conviction.<\/p>\n<p>The Houston man was staying at the Lone Steer Motel in Steele at<\/p>\n<p>the time of the Aug. 12 fire, which didn&#8217;t hurt anyone but<\/p>\n<p>displaced about two dozen people.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege that Thomas used a cigarette lighter to ignite a mattress because he was upset that the hotel owners had helped his girlfriend after the two had argued.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Another of the 11 people charged in<br \/>\nwhat authorities say was a deadly synthetic drug ring in<br \/>\nnortheastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota has pleaded<br \/>\nguilty.<\/p>\n<p>25-year-old Dillon Breen, of Grand Forks, admitted conspiring with<br \/>\nAndrew Spofford and others to distribute hallucinogens made by<br \/>\nSpofford, including synthetic drugs blamed in the deaths of two<br \/>\nteenagers last summer.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Breen faces up to 20 years in prison but prosecutors will<br \/>\nrecommend the judge hand down a lighter sentence on Feb. 4.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Only two of the 11 people charged in the case have not pleaded<br \/>\nguilty in pre-trial deals with prosecutors.
