Jamestown (CSi) James River Family Fitness at Larson Center will host the University of Jamestown\u2019s Relay for Life event, and activities.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 James River Family Fitness, Executive Director, Frank Conlon said the event starts on Friday March 27, 2015 at 3-p.m., and runs until 3-a.m. on Saturday the 28th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

At James River Family Fitness, Conlon noted that swimming lesson start on Monday March 30th<\/sup>, also this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning SCUBA lessons will be held. Call 253-4101 for availabilities and changes in hours for public swimming during those dates.<\/p>\n

Coming up, in April, Conlon pointed out CPR classes will be held, on April 11&12 it\u2019s the University of Jamestown Volleyball Camp, April 18th<\/sup> the University of Jamestown\u2019s Dine & Bid event, and April 25-26 North Country Regional Volleyball will be at the Center, with players from the three state area and Canada.<\/p>\n

Conlon said James River Family Fitness will begin summer hours on May 26, 2015, with no Sunday hours, and on other days open one less hour.<\/p>\n

He added that the facility will be offering special summer rates.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – An 18-year-old man has been charged with the shooting deaths of two fellow employees at a northeastern North Dakota hog farm.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeremy Rodriguez Rios is charged in Northeast District Court with two counts of felony murder in the deaths of 37-year-old Brian Story and 50-year-old Christopher Sluder.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All three worked Turtle Mountain Pork, a commercial hog operation near Souris, in Bottineau County. Sluder managed the business.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Cities and counties in the western North Dakota oil patch continue to be among the fastest-growing areas in the country.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The U.S. Census Bureau says that between 2013 and 2014, Williston and Dickinson were the fastest-growing micropolitan areas in the country. A micropolitan area is an entity with between 10,000 and 50,000 people.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 By percentage, Williams County remained the nation’s fastest-growing county, with a population growth of nearly 9 percent. It was followed by Stark County, with 7 percent growth.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Williston is in Williams County and Dickinson is in Stark County.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 People from around the country have flocked to the western North Dakota oil fields in recent years in search of good-paying jobs.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The number of drill rigs in western North Dakota’s oil patch has slipped below 100 for the first time in five years due to the sagging price of crude. There were 98 rigs drilling in North Dakota yesterday. That’s 100 fewer than on the same day one year ago. It’s the lowest since March 2010. North Dakota has been producing about 1.2 million barrels of oil daily.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The federal Agriculture Department has designated 25 counties in North Dakota as primary natural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by various weather conditions since the start of last year.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Those conditions range from heavy rainfall to drought.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Farmers and ranchers in the designated counties are eligible to apply for low-interest disaster loans. Producers in contiguous counties in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana also qualify.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota is petitioning to amend the U.S. Constitution to require a balanced federal budget.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Senate approved a Republican joint resolution largely along party lines this week that petitions Congress to call a convention of states to propose a constitutional amendment. The amendment would require Congress to pass a balanced fiscal year budget unless a national emergency occurs.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At least two dozen other states have passed similar resolutions. Two-thirds of all states would need to petition Congress before a convention could be called to propose the amendment.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The resolution passed 29-17 in the Senate on Tuesday and 72-20 in the House last month.

\u00a0LINCOLN, N.D. (AP) – Voters in Lincoln will go to the polls in June to decide whether to replace Mayor Bob Johnston.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 City Auditor Mary Marvel tells the Bismarck Tribune that the mayor’s opponents gathered the required 110 signatures to force a recall election on June 16th.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Those behind the recall petition say they question Johnston’s credibility, his handling of city funds, as well as his use of the mayor’s position. Johnston has had disagreements with city council members since October over groundwater and drainage issues, and his plans to work with the Burleigh County Highway Department.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Johnston says the allegations are “unfounded” and that he will not resign before the election.
\n\u00a0

Jamestown (CSi) Representatives of University of Jamestown and James River Family Fitness have met to discuss the timeline for the various stages of the renovation and expansion of athletic facilities on the UJ campus.<\/p>\n

Built in 1980, the Larson Center on the University\u2019s campus originally housed the Jamestown YMCA (now James River Family Fitness) and provided athletic space for just seven varsity teams and 200 student-athletes. In the ensuing years, the number of varsity sports offered at the University has grown to 16 and the number of student-athletes exceeds 500. During this same period, enrollment at the University has grown from just over 400 to nearly 1000 students.<\/p>\n

University of Jamestown President, Robert S. Badal, says, “For over three decades, the space has served the community and the University. However, we are currently in the unfortunate situation where it is no longer serving either party well. The University has begun planning for the renovation and addition to the space to meet the needs of a growing student population.”<\/p>\n

Expansion plans for the University will begin this spring with the addition of a turf field on the south side of the Larson Center.<\/p>\n

As the University\u2019s expansion plans continue to move forward, James River Family Fitness President, Rachel Liechty, says the proposed Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC) would be the new home of JRFF.<\/p>\n

Ms. Liechty says, “We are excited about TRAC being a vital part of meeting the needs of families in our community. Due to a variety of circumstances, JRFF needs to find a new location. TRAC would provide that needed space as JRFF would dissolve and become part of TRAC under the guidance of Jamestown Parks and Recreation.<\/p>\n

She adds, “JRFF is Jamestown\u2019s only full service family fitness center and provides many services to the community, including scholarships for youth fitness and is a major daycare provider in our city. Being part of TRAC would enable us to continue to offer a Learning Center for children, an aquatics areas for young and old, an enclosed turf surface for year round use, and a focus on family activities which will help attract new people to our community.”<\/p>\n

James River Family Fitness Director, Frank Conlon adds, “We feel that both the University of Jamestown plus the city and surrounding community would benefit from the approval of TRAC. The University\u2019s athletics would flourish with more practice space and more convenient practice times, while the members of TRAC would also have newer and better facilities and equipment at their disposal for their use. It would help to improve the health and welfare of the residents of Jamestown and the surrounding areas.”<\/p>\n

Further discussions will be scheduled throughout the University\u2019s expansion to allow the JRFF as much time as possible to notify their membership of the timetable once it has been established. Dr. Badal says, “We have partnered with YMCA and now JRFF in providing the community with access to fitness programs, it is our intent to continue supporting the community of Jamestown in pursuing options for such programs.”\u3000<\/p>\n

\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – The Mandan City Commission has approved ballot language for a June 9 public vote on whether to increase taxes to fund a sports complex.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Residents will decide whether to support a three-fourths percent sales tax to fund the $22 million Park District project that would include a two-rink hockey arena, gymnastics facilities, and a football and track field. The existing football and track field would be converted into ball fields.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Supporters say the project would benefit children and bring more money to the city. Opponents say a sales tax increase would hurt Mandan businesses.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Haussler says he’s almost 60 years old and has been pondering for about half a year stepping down from the position that he says “requires a lot of energy and a lot of time.”
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Haussler oversaw 125 state champion teams during his 23 years on the job. He’ll step down at the end of June.<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) – A Lufthansa plane carrying 62 relatives of those who were killed in a plane crash in the French Alps has arrived in Marseille (mahr-SAY’), France on a flight from Barcelona, Spain. Lufthansa says they and other relatives will be taken to the “closest point possible” to where a Germanwings plane went down earlier this week killing 150 people. Lufthansa is Germanwings’ parent company. Meanwhile, an unidentified investigator tells The Associated Press that recordings recovered from one of the plane’s black boxes show that one pilot left the cockpit but was unable to get back in before the crash.

The Saudis have been bombing key military installations in Yemen, targeting Houthi (HOO’-thee) rebels who’ve taken control of many parts of the country, including the capital Sanaa. Some of today’s airstrikes flattened a number of homes near the international airport.

The March 18 attack was claimed by an al-Qaida rival, the Islamic State group, but members of an al-Qaida-linked group claim allegiance to both radical groups. The minister says at least 80 percent of the group behind the attack is being detained.
