(AP) \u2014 The president of the Mandan school board has been elected as North Dakota&#8217;s school superintendent.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Kirsten Baesler (KEER&#8217;-stun BAYZ&#8217;-lur) defeated Tracy Potter on Tuesday in the race for superintendent of public instruction. Baesler will replace Wayne Sanstead, who is retiring after 28 years in the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The 43-year-old Baesler is assistant director of the state School Boards Association and a former assistant principal in Bismarck&#8217;s public schools. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota voters have agreed to expand<br \/>\nthe state&#8217;s smoking ban to cover bars and other public places.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state has had a limited smoking ban for seven years. The law<br \/>\napproved Tuesday expands the ban to bars, motels, private nursing<br \/>\nhomes, cabs and public transportation. It also prohibits smoking<br \/>\nwithin 20 feet of an entrance to a public building.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Violations can carry a $50 fine. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota voters have repealed a voting<br \/>\ntax that was in the state constitution but never collected.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Constitution permitted a so-called poll tax of<br \/>\nup to $1.50 per year on men aged 21 to 50. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota voters have changed the state<br \/>\nconstitution to require the governor and other elected officials to<br \/>\ntake an oath of office.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The change is part of Measure 2, which North Dakota voters<br \/>\napproved on Tuesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The measure was put on the ballot by the North Dakota<br \/>\nLegislature.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In other news&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. During a period of three months in 1992, Mahto forcibly raped four women.
