(AP Nov 7, 2012) &#8211; Democratic candidate Heidi Heitkamp has won the U.S. Senate race in North Dakota, defeating Republican Rep. Rick Berg.<\/p>\n<p>Heitkamp won the race by fewer than 3,000 votes, and Berg could have asked for a recount.<\/p>\n<p>He conceded the race Wednesday with a qualifier: He was stepping<\/p>\n<p>aside barring any unforeseen circumstances with the state canvasing<\/p>\n<p>board that certifies the race results.<\/p>\n<p>That canvasing process is to begin Friday. It will account for<\/p>\n<p>late-arriving absentee ballots that were postmarked in time to be<\/p>\n<p>counted in the election.<\/p>\n<p>Berg had been expected to win the race, and Republicans had counted on his<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0victory in their failed attempt to take control of the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000\u00a0426 of 426 precincts &#8211; 100 percent<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heidi Heitkamp, Dem 160,752 &#8211; 50 percent<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rick Berg, GOP 157,758 &#8211; 50 percent<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; It was early Wednesday morning, about 3-a.m., Nov 7, 2012) before races in Barnes County, and the District 24 legislative races had final totals.<\/p>\n<p>Barnes County Interim Auditor, Julie Mindt says a Valley City precinct had a discrepancy in ballots matching the poll books.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s possible that ballots may have been mixed with other precinct ballots, or added into absentee ballots, or had gotten jammed.<\/p>\n<p>There were no glitches in the counting process.<\/p>\n<p>She adds that the vote canvass will be Tuesday November 13, 2012, and at that time it should be determined where the four ballots in question should end up.<\/p>\n<p>Officials are still looking into a possible recount in the District 24 House of Representative race.<\/p>\n<p>Unofficial vote totals have the top three voter-getters within a few votes of each other.<\/p>\n<p>Muscha: Barnes County 2393 votes, Ransom County 620 votes, Cass County 241 votes for a total of 3254 votes or 26.11%<\/p>\n<p>Kiefert: Barnes County 2741 votes, Ransom County 284 votes, Cass County 227 votes, for a total of 3252 votes or 26.09%<\/p>\n<p>Buhr: Barnes County 2514 votes, Ransom County 476 votes, Cass County 207 votes for a total of 3197 votes, or 25.65%.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Peterson\u2019s vote totals were 2726 votes or 21.87% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s newest congressman says<br \/>\nhe&#8217;ll be resigning Dec. 31 as a member of the state Public Service<br \/>\nCommission.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kevin Cramer&#8217;s term on the regulatory board has four years left.<br \/>\nHe said Wednesday he&#8217;ll quit at year&#8217;s end. In early January, he&#8217;ll<br \/>\nbe sworn in as North Dakota&#8217;s only member of the U.S. House.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple will appoint Cramer&#8217;s successor. Cramer says<br \/>\nDalrymple hasn&#8217;t told him if he has anyone in mind for the opening.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The commission has three members. Cramer says he wants to stay<br \/>\nas long as possible to make sure it&#8217;s fully staffed.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The other two members are Chairman Brian Kalk and temporary<br \/>\nCommissioner Bonny Fetch. (AP) &#8211; Republicans still have a strong hold on<br \/>\nthe North Dakota Legislature after Tuesday&#8217;s elections.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Democrats picked up two seats in the North Dakota Senate, but<br \/>\nRepublicans defeated two Democratic House incumbents.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The GOP kept two-thirds majorities in both the House and Senate<br \/>\nafter Tuesday&#8217;s vote.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 House Republican Majority Leader Al Carlson predicted<br \/>\nlegislative maps approved last November would benefit Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The maps were redrawn following the 2010 census to reflect<br \/>\nchanges in population over the past decade. Republicans still have two-thirds control of<br \/>\nthe Legislature.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the Senate, Fargo Democrat George B. Sinner beat incumbent<br \/>\nRepublican Jim Roers. Sinner is the son of former Democratic Gov.<br \/>\nGeorge Sinner.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Jamestown, Democrat John Grabinger<\/span> won the seat vacated by<br \/>\nlongtime Republican Sen.
