BISMARCK, N.D. (AP Nov 7, 2012) – Democratic candidate Heidi Heitkamp has won the U.S. Senate race in North Dakota, defeating Republican Rep. Rick Berg.<\/p>\n

Heitkamp won the race by fewer than 3,000 votes, and Berg could have asked for a recount.<\/p>\n

He conceded the race Wednesday with a qualifier: He was stepping<\/p>\n

aside barring any unforeseen circumstances with the state canvasing<\/p>\n

board that certifies the race results.<\/p>\n

That canvasing process is to begin Friday. It will account for<\/p>\n

late-arriving absentee ballots that were postmarked in time to be<\/p>\n

counted in the election.<\/p>\n

Berg had been expected to win the race, and Republicans had counted on his<\/p>\n

\u00a0victory in their failed attempt to take control of the Senate.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — It was early Wednesday morning, about 3-a.m., Nov 7, 2012) before races in Barnes County, and the District 24 legislative races had final totals.<\/p>\n

Barnes County Interim Auditor, Julie Mindt says a Valley City precinct had a discrepancy in ballots matching the poll books.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s possible that ballots may have been mixed with other precinct ballots, or added into absentee ballots, or had gotten jammed.<\/p>\n

There were no glitches in the counting process.<\/p>\n

She adds that the vote canvass will be Tuesday November 13, 2012, and at that time it should be determined where the four ballots in question should end up.<\/p>\n

Officials are still looking into a possible recount in the District 24 House of Representative race.<\/p>\n

Unofficial vote totals have the top three voter-getters within a few votes of each other.<\/p>\n

Muscha: Barnes County 2393 votes, Ransom County 620 votes, Cass County 241 votes for a total of 3254 votes or 26.11%<\/p>\n

Kiefert: Barnes County 2741 votes, Ransom County 284 votes, Cass County 227 votes, for a total of 3252 votes or 26.09%<\/p>\n

Buhr: Barnes County 2514 votes, Ransom County 476 votes, Cass County 207 votes for a total of 3197 votes, or 25.65%.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Peterson\u2019s vote totals were 2726 votes or 21.87% of the vote.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s newest congressman says
\nhe’ll be resigning Dec. 31 as a member of the state Public Service
\nCommission.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kevin Cramer’s term on the regulatory board has four years left.
\nHe said Wednesday he’ll quit at year’s end. In early January, he’ll
\nbe sworn in as North Dakota’s only member of the U.S. House.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple will appoint Cramer’s successor. Cramer says
\nDalrymple hasn’t told him if he has anyone in mind for the opening.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The commission has three members. Cramer says he wants to stay
\nas long as possible to make sure it’s fully staffed.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The other two members are Chairman Brian Kalk and temporary
\nCommissioner Bonny Fetch. Fetch will be replaced by newly elected
\nRepublican Randy Christmann.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Christmann defeated Democrat Brad Crabtree to win his commission
\nseat.<\/p>\n

\nthe North Dakota Legislature after Tuesday’s elections.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Democrats picked up two seats in the North Dakota Senate, but
\nRepublicans defeated two Democratic House incumbents.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The GOP kept two-thirds majorities in both the House and Senate
\nafter Tuesday’s vote.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 House Republican Majority Leader Al Carlson predicted
\nlegislative maps approved last November would benefit Republicans.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The maps were redrawn following the 2010 census to reflect
\nchanges in population over the past decade. Republicans who control
\nthe Legislature also drew the new boundaries to protect GOP
\ninterests.

\nTuesday’s elections. Republicans still have two-thirds control of
\nthe Legislature.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the Senate, Fargo Democrat George B. Sinner beat incumbent
\nRepublican Jim Roers. Sinner is the son of former Democratic Gov.
\nGeorge Sinner.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Jamestown, Democrat John Grabinger<\/span> won the seat vacated by
\nlongtime Republican Sen. David Nething.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Democrats lost two House seats. But one of the Democratic
\nvictors was Fargo House candidate Joshua Boschee (BOH’-shee). He
\nwill be the Legislature’s only openly gay representative.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Prosecutors in the trial of a Fargo surgeon
\naccused of drugging his wife and sexually assaulting her say the
\ndefendant ignored safety precautions to satisfy his sexual
\nobsessions.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dr. Jon Norberg is accused of raping Dr. Alonna Norberg after
\ngiving her propofol, a powerful anesthetic that gained notoriety
\nduring the trial of the doctor who treated Michael Jackson.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutor Reid Brady said in his opening statement Tuesday that
\nJon Norberg “defied dangerous risks.”
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorney Robert Hoy said there’s no physical evidence
\nand Alonna Norberg concocted the story to use in possible divorce
\nand child custody proceedings.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hoy says the couple decided together to administer propofol for
\nAlonna Norberg’s debilitating medical condition.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man found upside down in a Bismarck
\nbar’s ventilation unit has been charged with burglary.<\/p>\n

25-year-old Caleb Belile has not made a court appearance because he had been receiving treatment at a Bismarck hospital.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Belile told police he entered the duct work because he was
\nseeking shelter from the cold.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say a cleaning crew heard Belile calling for help in the
\nceiling over the pool tables at O’Brien’s Tavern early Monday
\nmorning.<\/p>\n

Police found Belile upside down. Firefighters and
\nemergency medical workers were able to free Belile after about 45
\nminutes.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A police affidavit says surveillance tape showed Belile crawl
\ninto the ventilation system.<\/p>\n

\nLeader Harry Reid, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell and
\nHouse Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.<\/p>\n

\nPolice say White pulled a fire alarm at a Nashville hotel in
\nSeptember, forcing guests to evacuate, then got in a fight with a
\nguest while trying to flee.<\/p>\n
