\"lefeveremara\"<\/a>Jamestown (CSi) The Miss North Dakota United States Organization is pleased to announce that on March 22nd<\/sup>, 2015, Mara LeFevre was awarded the title of Miss Jr. Teen North Dakota United States<\/i>. Mara\u3000is in the 9th grade and attends Jamestown High School<\/strong>. She is involved in golf, soccer, and band. She is a volunteer at the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown. Her pageant platform is to, “encourage children with disabilities, to gain possibilities<\/b>.”<\/p>\n

The Miss United States Organization can trace its roots back to 1937 when the first title of Miss United States was awarded to Miss California. Today, the Miss United States Organization (MUSO) holds pageants for four different age levels: Miss Jr. Teen, Miss Teen, Miss, and Ms. Mara is honored to represent teens such as herself and to visit our nation\u2019s capital when she and the other state title holders will represent North Dakota at the MUSO national pageant in Washington D.C. in July, 2015.<\/strong> She will receive the opportunity to be a role model and spokesperson for girls and women across North Dakota for the coming year.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Daily Bread program in Jamestown will supply 22 people over the age of 60 in need of food assistance, with 60 pounds of food per applicant on Tuesday, through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.<\/p>\n

The food is designated for March applicants.<\/p>\n

Board member and Ave Maria Village Deacon Tom Geffre, says applicants who apply for food through the CSFP, a federally-funded program through the Great Plains Food Bank in Fargo, could be eligible to receive a box of shelf-stable foods every other month to successful applicants 60 years and older who have a limited income.<\/p>\n

The first shipment of food for the program will be arriving at the Salvation Army on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

The Daily Bread program has supplied food to individuals in need by retrieving unserved food from a variety of sources.<\/p>\n

Those include, Jamestown Regional Medical Center, the University of Jamestown and several local restaurants, as the frozen food is redistributed to different locations for anybody to take.<\/p>\n

Daily Bread has freezers at several schools, the James River Senior\/Community Center and at Ave Maria Village.<\/p>\n

Food is also distributed through the Jamestown\u2019s Salvation Army and Community Action Region VI.<\/p>\n

The Great Plains Food Bank is now taking applications, for the June distribution, which can be picked up at the James River Senior\/Community Center, the Gardenette or from Jamestown area pastors.<\/p>\n

Food items that successful applicants receive through CSFP include cereal, canned vegetables, peanut butter, canned fruit, shelf-stable milk, canned meat, cheese and fruit juice.<\/p>\n

The Salvation Army food pantry is also available Monday through Friday, except Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities are investigating five instances of bogus bills being passed, in denominations of $5, $50 and $100. One business received 17 fake $100 bills.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Sgt. Thomas Nagel\u00a0says \u00a0the bills all are of poor quality, and authorities think they were made by the same person or people.

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Williston police are investigating the shooting of a woman in a recreational vehicle park.

\nA 36-year-old woman from Indiana was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits. Formal charges were pending.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A 45-year-old Bismarck woman might be in trouble with the law after pulling an April Fools’ Day prank that didn’t end well.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the woman called her 24-year-old daughter on Wednesday and told her that her house was on fire. The daughter immediately hung up and called 911.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 By the time the mother informed the daughter it was just a prank, a fire truck and two police cars had arrived at her home and several more emergency vehicles were on the way.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The mother was not arrested, but the case has been turned over to the city attorney for review.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Archers from Hankinson and Wahpeton took top honors at the annual state archery tournament in Minot.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hankinson repeated as the high school champion, and Wahpeton repeated as middle school champion at the recent North Dakota National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament. Hankinson also won the elementary school division.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Game and Fish Department says all three teams and the top 10 individual archers advance to the national tournament next month in Louisville, Kentucky.

\u00a0INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Frank Kaminsky, the 7-footer who anchored Wisconsin’s run to a second straight Final Four, is the runaway choice as The Associated Press’ player of the year.

\u00a0GARISSA, Kenya (AP) – Kenyans are accusing their government of not doing enough to prevent Thursday’s massacre of 148 people at a college in northeastern Kenya by a group of Islamic extremists. The attack came six days after Britain advised against “all but essential travel” to parts of Kenya, including the area where the attack took place. But one day before the attack, the country’s president dismissed the warning — as well as one in Australia — saying, “Kenya is as safe as any country in the world.”\u00a0

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A Philadelphia woman accused of trying to martyr herself for the Islamic State group in Syria has been ordered held until a detention hearing next week. Keonna Thomas appeared in federal court\u00a0Friday afternoon just hours after her arrest on a charge of attempting to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization. A prosecutor says a search warrant executed a week ago at her home prevented her from leaving the country on a flight scheduled for last weekend. The government says it will seek to have her held without bail at her hearing Wednesday.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – Some economists are saying that one reason the March jobs report looks so bleak is that hiring had been so strong earlier. Patrick O’Keefe of the consulting firm Cohn Reznick says employers “aren’t laying people off” — they’re just slowing their pace of hiring “until they have more confidence.” For the first time since December of 2013, fewer than 200,000 jobs were added. The sub-par jobs growth could make the Federal Reserve less likely to start raising interest rates from record lows in June, as some have been anticipating.
