Suites in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The year in review was present by Gary Riffe, and CEO, Connie Ova.<\/p>\n<p>The annual audit report was given by Linda Mohn of Schauer and Associates.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota Department of Commerce&#8217;s John Mittleider spoke on the statewide impact of ag and energy development.<\/p>\n<p>Presentation of awards were made by Jamestown Mayor, Katie Andersen, and Stutsman County Commission Chairman, Mark Klose.<\/p>\n<p>Dakota Spirit AgEnergy received the Growing Jamestown Award during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Ridderbusch, vice president for business development and strategy for Great River Energy, the parent company of Dakota Spirit, accepted the award.<\/p>\n<p>John Mittleider, business developer for the North Dakota Department of Commerce, told the gathering that, Dakota Spirit AgEnergy is expected to create about 400 jobs either directly or indirectly.<\/p>\n<p>Featured guest speakers were, from Great River Energy, Greg Ritterbusch, and from Midwest AgEnergy Group, Jeff Zueger.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Zueger, chief operating officer for Midwest AgEnergy Group, the company that operates Dakota Spirit, said the construction phase of the project began in December 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Looking forward to 2015 presentation was made by the board&#8217;s Bob Toso.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County participated in the simulated state-wide tornado exercise Wednesday morning, April 29, 2015\u00a0as part of Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week.\u00a0 The exercise, which was scheduled to begin 11:15 a.m., started on time with a test tornado warning initiated by the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Stutsman County Emergency Manager, Jerry Bergquist says, part of the exercise included testing the county\u2019s emergency operations plan. \u00a0A portion of the plan consists of Law Enforcement Center dispatchers activating siren systems for several communities in the County.\u00a0 The sirens in Medina, Buchanan and Cleveland proved to be operational and ready for the summer weather season.\u00a0 However, the siren at Streeter and the siren located at Frontier Village in Jamestown malfunctioned.\u00a0 An effort is underway to get both sirens repaired and ready for use.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the National Weather Service activated its All Hazards Radio System and local radio stations and CSi cable\u00a0 tested the Emergency Alert Systems, with cable interrupt.<\/p>\n<p>Even though an official \u201cwarning\u201d was broadcast by the National Weather Service, the CodeRED Weather Warning notification system did not activate.\u00a0\u00a0 Bergquist,\u00a0 believes the CodeRED activation didn\u2019t occur because there were no specific boundaries attached to the warning.\u00a0 CodeRED is designed to warn individuals that have addresses within the warned area.\u00a0 And, for the tornado exercise, specific boundaries were not identified.<\/p>\n<p>Those wanting to sign up for CodeRED can do so by going to the Stutsman County webpage at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.co.stutsman.nd.us\/\">www.co.stutsman.nd.us<\/a> and click on the CodeRED icon at the bottom of the page.\u00a0 Choose to receive tornado, thunderstorm and\/or flash flood warnings on land-line telephones, cell-phones (including text message capable phones), VOIP phones and also via email addresses.\u00a0 CodeRED Weather Warning is a no-cost way to receive immediate weather warning information, but, you must register for the service.\u00a0 For those needing assistance to register, contact Stutsman County Emergency Management at 701-252-9093.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police and the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office is asking for any information the public may have into break-ins and thefts at local storage lockers.<\/p>\n<p>The thefts break-ins and thefts have been occurring since last summer.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information is asked to contact Jamestown Police Detective Leroy Gross or Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Detective Jason Falk to schedule a time to come to the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center and look at recovered stolen items.<\/p>\n<p>Gross says, since last summer there have been at least 30 storage locker break-ins. So far there have been five searches of different buildings in which stolen property was recovered.<\/p>\n<p>There are several suspects but law enforcement is looking for solid leads, for possible arrests.<\/p>\n<p>Gross also offered some advises those renting a storage locker to use the round type of locks, and put to your name and\/or phone number on items with a permanent marker or an engraving tool.<\/p>\n<p>To contact Gross, at Jamestown Police at 252-2414. Contact Falk, at the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office at 251-6200.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Those wishing to participate in swimming lessons at James River Family Fitness in Jamestown should make arrangements before the pool officially closes July 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Executive Director, Frank Conlon said to enroll for swimming lesson to be held the four weeks in June. Open Swimming hours will still be available until the pool closes.<\/p>\n<p>There has also been a number of individuals who have used the facility to become certified as life guards.<\/p>\n<p>He says call JRFF at 253-4101 to make swimming lesson arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>The pool will close, as the University of Jamestown will be using the area, after it is converted for the UJ wrestling facility.<\/p>\n<p>Conlon pointed out that the JRFF gym at the Larson Center, will host the regional Marketplace of Kids, on on May 12, 2015 starting at 7-a.m., and running most of the day.<\/p>\n<p>He added that JRFF will start summer hours the day after Memorial Day, on May 26<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The hours then will be, Monday Through Friday from 5-a.m., to close at 9-p.m. Saturdays from 6-a.m., to 4-p.m., and closed Sundays.<\/p>\n<p>The gym will be hosting the after graduation party.<\/p>\n<p>The facility will be close for a week in July for annual maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>JRFF has recently hosted the University of Jamestown Volleyball Camp, and Dine &amp; Bid dinner and auction, along with a regional high school volleyball tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) Those attending the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce-Valley City\/Barnes County annual banquet Tuesday evening, heard that over $98 million in new construction was accomplished in the county last year.<\/p>\n<p>VC\/BC Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist told the audience, that 82 new homes were built in 2014 and another 49 apartment units were added in Barnes County, adding that 746 jobs were created last year in Barnes County.<\/p>\n<p>Awards handed out included:<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 Hi-Line Award\u2026.Doreen Sayler.<\/p>\n<p>Business of The Year\u2026.Stoudt Ross Ford.<\/p>\n<p>Communitye Image Award\u2026 Pizza Ranch, Smith Lumber Company and First Community Credit Union of Valley City<\/p>\n<p>Accepting the Community Spirit Awards were, Marcia Foss, Dave Vareberg and Dalene Brock.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck (CSi) State Senator, Larry Robinson of Valley City and Mayor Bob Werkhoven have thanked Governor Jack Dalrymple, and the State Water Commission, as the State Legislature has approved $3 million in funds which will go toward permanent flood control dike installation in Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>The flood control is geared to aid in the protection of the VCSU campus.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 2023 now goes to the Governor for his signature.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Another Stutsman County Relay for Life fundraiser is set. (AP) &#8211; The Highway Patrol lieutenant who led the response to a deadly collision between a school bus and freight train near Larimore likely will face a traffic citation after an investigation determined he drove the wrong way on a highway.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lt. Troy Hischer had been on administrative leave during a monthlong probe but has returned to duty. He&#8217;s declined to talk about the incident to the media.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hischer was accused of driving the wrong way on U.S. Highway 2 for about 4 miles the night of the bus-train crash. A log of 911 calls shows Hischer told a dispatcher he was on his phone at the time.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSome patrol officials felt the incident was covered up. Hischer&#8217;s superiors weren&#8217;t notified about it until a blogger wrote about it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Residents of a Fargo apartment building used pails of water to extinguish a fire that investigators have linked to a malfunctioning fluorescent light fixture.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Fire Department says tenants had extinguished the flames in the building&#8217;s hallway by the time firefighters arrived Wednesday evening. No one was hurt.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Firefighters made sure the fire had not spread into the walls and cleared the building of smoke. Damage was estimated at $1,500.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0GARNDER, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Two people have been killed in an all-terrain vehicle crash at a Cass County farmstead.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sheriff&#8217;s office says the victims of the Thursday morning crash near Gardner were adults. (AP) &#8211; The sexual misconduct trial of a former North Dakota teacher of the year has ended with no verdict after the presiding judge was prompted to dismiss the jury following the medical emergency of a juror.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A female juror in the Aaron Knodel (kah-NOH&#8217;-dehl) trial was dismissed Wednesday after she was taken from the courthouse where the jury was deliberating to a hospital. The juror was disoriented and couldn&#8217;t recognize her sister at the hospital.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 36-year-old West Fargo High School English teacher is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student over a period of several weeks in early 2009. He has pleaded not guilty to five counts of felony corruption or solicitation of a minor.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The prosecution could ask for a mistrial to try to put the case before a new jury. Prosecutors didn&#8217;t immediately return calls seeking comment.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Knodel&#8217;s attorney Robert Hoy says he hopes the prosecution decides against pursuing a new trial.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Portland, Oregon man has pleaded not guilty to supplying a powerful synthetic drug that led to numerous overdoses in eastern North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Forty-year-old Brandon Hubbard made his first federal court appearance Wednesday in North Dakota. He&#8217;s facing three charges, including conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Update&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A jury has determined that a Georgia truck driver is not responsible for the deaths of three people who lost their lives in a crash in North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vernon Wright, of Hiram, Georgia, was found not guilty of three counts of negligent homicide on Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wright was charged in a fiery crash on U.S. Highway 2 near Stanley in June 2013 that killed two Minot men and a Rhame man. The tanker trailer exploded in the crash, and five other vehicles burned.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors during the trial said Wright was not driving safely while operating a tanker trailer filled with oil. The defense disputed the prosecution&#8217;s argument and maintained that some vehicles in the crash might have been traveling too fast for the foggy conditions.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A North Dakota Republican lawmaker who has voted against extending legal protections to gays and lesbians is defending his decision to send a graphic photo of himself to another user of a gay dating website. Representative Randy Boehning of Fargo told the Forum newspaper that he is homosexual and confirmed that he sent an unsolicited photo of a his penis to a man. The 52-year-old contractor, who is single, has served in the North Dakota Legislature since 2003.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Legislature ended its 2015 session Wednesday afternoon but lawmakers left a measure unresolved that affects public employee benefits.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 House and Senate leaders have been at loggerheads for weeks over certain parts of the legislation aimed at ensuring that thousands of public employees can keep the same health benefits and medical providers when their insurer changes July 1. Lawmakers also are affected by the change.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The session lasted 78 days, just short of the 80-day maximum set by the state constitution.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The session was highlighted by uncertainty over slipping oil prices though spending did not reflect that.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state budget totals $14.4 billion during the 2015 to 2017 budget cycle. (AP) &#8211; The lawyer for a man on trial in North Dakota in a Jamaican lottery scam case says authorities should have investigated whether his client was himself a victim of stolen identity.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sanjay Williams, of Montego Bay, Jamaica, has pleaded not guilty in federal court to conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. He&#8217;s the first of 32 defendants to go to trial.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 While questioning FBI Special Agent Frank Gasper on Wednesday, defense attorney Charlie Stock said investigators should have looked into an incident in which Williams&#8217; email account was hacked. (AP) &#8211; Brookings police are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital but say there is no threat to the general public.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An officer found an 18-year-old man in the backyard of a home with a gunshot wound while searching for a suspect after a call about a suspicious person early Thursday. The man was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls with unknown injuries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the incident began when a caller reported a suspicious male exiting their neighbor&#8217;s garage. An officer a short time later spotted a male matching the description walking on the sidewalk.
