Access will be limited to residents along College Street in the area of the closure, and officials are asking people to not park on the streets in the adjacent streets to allow those residents a place to park.<\/p>\n<p>The previously closed 5th Avenue Southwest and Viking Drive with remain closed.<\/p>\n<p>Viking Drive will be opened prior to VCSU\u2019s graduation celebrations on May 16th.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council met in Regular Session, Monday afternoon at City Hall. Mayor Andersen was not present. Property south of the airport, on newly annexed land.<\/p>\n<p>A <b>SECOND READING of an <\/b>Ordinance to grant Otter Tail Power Company a continued franchise to maintain its system within the City for a 10 year period was tabled until the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>A <b>PUBLIC HEARING was held, <\/b>concerning an Ordinance to change the zoning of the proposed Lot 1, Block 1, Edgewood First Addition, within the NE \u00bc of the SW \u00bc of Section 2, Township 139 North, Range 64 West, from A-1 (Agricultural District) and C-1 (Local Commercial District) to C-1 (Local Commercial District). Council Member Kourajian said the electricity is used during downtown events, such as the Block Party, and Crazy Days, and is used for street light controls. Kourajian said he is opposed to removing it.<\/p>\n<p>The Arts Center representative, Dave Hillerud said an option is to spin the panel and moving it to the north.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council voted to approve the Arts Center to relocate the panel, in the general area.<\/p>\n<p>Approved aa Resolution to authorize Payment No. 3 &amp; Final to Scherbenske, Inc., for Storm Sewer Cleaning, in the amount of $33,100.00<\/p>\n<p>Information was given relative to the Storm Sewer repairs on the &#8220;Burdick&#8221; storm sewer.<\/p>\n<p>City Engineer, Reed Schwartzkopf said a minimum of $139,000 will need to be expended, with a request for proposals sent out.<\/p>\n<p>Council member Brubakken said with the cost over $40,000 the city council needs to send out RFPs and then review the responses.<\/p>\n<p>Council Member Gumke moved to send the issue to committee for review and options on bidding the project, and paying for it.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic moving through the area has been re-directed.<\/p>\n<p>Schwartzkopf said grants will be applied for from the Department of Homeland Security to upgrade, and possibly added to the city\u2019s outdoor warning sirens.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council voted to table until the committee meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was shown live on CSi Cable 67 followed by replays.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Funding for a new, permanent, Jamestown bus Depot is still be sought, for a prospective location.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, City Council Member, and spearhead for a new depot, Charlie Kourajian said, the undisclosed location in Jamestown would provide a building for those riding the Jefferson Bus Lines route in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>He added that anyone wishing to make a donation, or more information may contact Kourajian at 320-3015.<\/p>\n<p>The Jamestown City Council has not wished to support the project with funds.<\/p>\n<p>He added that grants are being sought, and he pointed out that during the first three months of this year ridership improved by 50 percent over the first three months of 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson Bus Lines has in the past indicated that they would not financially support a Jamestown Bus Station.<\/p>\n<p>Previously an enclosed shelter was proposed for the area near the former Eagles Club, however, building requirements for such a shelter, negated those plans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Thursday May 7, 2015, Jamestown Community Health Partnership will be hosting a session at the Law Enforcement Center lower level from 1-5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The primary goal is to educate the community on the progress of the community health assessment that was completed in 2012 and also roll-out the newest results from the 2015 community health assessment survey.<\/p>\n<p>Following the roll-out education, the community will be asked to help prioritize 4 top areas for the committee to focus on for the next 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>Presenters scheduled are: representatives from Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Central Valley Health District, Dr. Steven Pickard North Dakota Department of Health, and Ken Hall UND Center for Rural Health.<\/p>\n<p>Agenda:<\/p>\n<p>1-1:30-p.m\u2026.History and Progress of the Community Health Partnership<\/p>\n<p>1:30- 2-p.m\u2026.Stutsman County Health Rankings Data<\/p>\n<p>2- 2:30-p.m\u2026.the 2015 Community Health Survey Results and Recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>2:30-4-p.m\u2026.Health Date Group Discussions.<\/p>\n<p>4-5-p.m., Priority Setting: Selecting Themes,Closing Comments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The long-awaited Jamestown Land Use and Transportation Plan is ready for presentations to the community.<\/p>\n<p>City Council Member, Charlie Kourajian says on Monday May 11, 2015, at 8-a.m., the plan will be present to the Jamestown City Planning Commission for approval.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday May 18<sup>th<\/sup> the plan will be presented at City Hall for public comments and review.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday May 19<sup>th<\/sup> the plan will be presented to the Jamestown City Council\u2019s Legal &amp; Finance Committee for recommendation for approval.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Alex Wittenberg of Valley City and Dylan Moser of Devils Lake are the winners of North Dakota&#8217;s 58th annual Know Your State competition.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The statewide contest is open to high school juniors and seniors. The two winning students earned $1,000 each and a plaque.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jessica Vandal and Kelsey Becker, both of Jamestown, finished second. Paige Amann of Dickinson Trinity and Oscar Weber of Jamestown wound up third.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The contest was sponsored by the North Dakota Masonic Foundation and Bismarck State College.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) <span>The Jamestown School Board reviewed a report prepared for the district&#8217;s Health Insurance Committee to guide the committee through its health insurance renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Due to changes in the Affordable Care Act, the district will have to provide health insurance coverage to 73 additional workers next school year, and <span>the school district&#8217;s premium could increase by $927,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Robert Lech said the Health Insurance Committee was just starting the process of looking at the district&#8217;s health insurance coverage and the committee would be considering changes and making a final decision within the next two months.<\/p>\n<p>The <span>projected premium increase is happening in part due to the workforce for Jamestown Public Schools getting older and having more women than a similar-sized commercial business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The school board has \u00a0approved its meeting schedule for the 2015-16 school year. All school board meetings begin at 5:15 p.m. and are held in the Thompson Community Room in the Jamestown Middle School. The board will meet June 22, July 20, Aug. 17, Dec. 7 and Jan. 18. During all other months, the board will meet on the first and third Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0NIAGARA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say a 45-year-old Fargo man has died after the semitrailer he was driving rolled into a highway median near Niagara.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the man was driving on U.S. Highway 2 when he drifted into the median. He tried to turn back onto the road, but the semitrailer rolled over.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0The \u00a0man was wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the release of his name is pending notification of his family.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Bismarck police say a 60-year-old Bismarck man held a suspected burglar at gunpoint until officers could arrive.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The homeowner said his barking dog woke him from sleep early Sunday. He grabbed his handgun and walked into his living room, where he found a strange man.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The homeowner ordered the intruder to sit on the coach and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 27-year-old suspect told police he had been drinking all night and thought he was in the home of a friend who was hosting a party. He was arrested on a criminal trespass charge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; One of a half-dozen people charged in a case involving numerous overdoses involving the powerful synthetic drug powdered fentanyl has changed his plea to guilty.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0 18-year-old David Noye Jr., of Grand Forks, has pleaded guilty. He is charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Grand Forks police have issued two public warnings about the dangers of fentanyl since 18-year-old Bailey Henke, of Grand Forks, died from an overdose in January.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Federal prosecutors say that the drugs were obtained from Brandon Hubbard, of Portland, Oregon, who made his first North Dakota court appearance last week in Fargo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Testimony has wrapped up in the case of man on trial in North Dakota for his role in a Jamaican lottery scam.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Twenty-five-year-old Sanjay Williams, of Montego Bay, Jamaica, is charged in federal court with conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. Authorities say the scam bilked mostly elderly and vulnerable citizens out of their savings accounts.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Both the prosecution team and defense attorney Charlie Stock finished their presentations Monday, on the sixth day of trial. Closing arguments are scheduled Tuesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say Williams mainly bought and sold lists of potential victims. Stock says that so many people involved in the scheme used fake names and IDs that it&#8217;s difficult to believe most of the witnesses.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The case originated with a woman from Harvey who says she lost nearly $300,000.<\/p>\n<p>DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A new oil refinery has started operating in western North Dakota. Bismarck-based MDU Resources Group and Indianapolis-based Calumet Specialty Products Partners built the $430 million Dakota Prairie Refinery near Dickinson. Officials said Monday that it has begun producing diesel fuel and is expected to start selling it later this month. Crews broke ground on the refinery in March 2013. Once it is fully operational, it will process 20,000 barrels of oil each day into diesel fuel and other products.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The University of North Dakota has released a list of nearly 1,200 potential new nicknames.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The list was compiled during a public suggestion process in April. The committee facilitating the selection of a new nickname will compile a short list of names that will go to a public vote.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Among the more popular suggestions are &#8220;North Dakota&#8221; and &#8220;Flickertails.&#8221; There also are numerous suggestions that include the word &#8220;Fighting,&#8221; such as &#8220;Fighting Farmers,&#8221; and a lot with Norwegian and aviation themes. UND&#8217;s flight school is considered one of the best in the nation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State residents voted overwhelmingly in 2012 to dump UND&#8217;s &#8220;Fighting Sioux&#8221; nickname, which the NCAA considered &#8220;hostile and abusive.&#8221; The state Legislature put a moratorium on replacing the nickname until this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ALEXANDER, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Alexander High School Comets sports teams will once again be blazing their own way. The school board in the oil patch city has decided to bring back football, basketball and volleyball teams in the fall now that the school has enough students to field teams. Enrollment has more than tripled since the recent oil boom began, to about 180 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The football program will start small, entering six-man competition with nearby Montana teams.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MLB&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>AMERICAN\u00a0 LEAGUE<\/p>\n<p>MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; Torii Hunter&#8217;s three-run homer broke a sixth-inning tie as the streaking Minnesota Twins an 8-7 victory last night over the Oakland Athletics. Brian Dozier and Jordan Schafer each drove in two runs for the Twins. The A&#8217;s lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
