Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office is investigating an accident that occurred Wednesday about 11:30-p.m. about two miles west of Medina, that claimed the life of the lone occupant of the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Deputy Damian Hoyt, reported that an individual was eastbound on I- 94 when the vehicle entered the median and rolled, coming to rest in the westbound driving lane on its top.<\/p>\n

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Department was assisted by the Jamestown Police Department, Jamestown Ambulance, and the Jamestown City Fire Department.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) exercise were held on Thursday morning at Jamestown High School.<\/p>\n

Jamestown High is in the fifth year of the CERT program which is coming to a close with this final exercise.<\/p>\n

Approximately 97 students of the freshman class participated in the disaster exercise, with JHS Drama students acting as “victims,” in a mock bleacher collapse scenario in the gym, and required CERT students to act as responders.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s class is so large, that there were two separate exercises and graduation ceremonies.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown will be presenting degrees to graduating seniors during the 109th Annual Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9th.<\/p>\n

Bart Holaday, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, will be delivering the Commencement address. Mr. Holaday holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in politics, philosophy, and economics from Oxford University.<\/p>\n

Speakers representing the Class of 2015 will be Kaitlyn Bollingberg, Grand Forks and James Rommelfanger, Titon Falls, N.J. and Dr. Mark Joy, Professor and History Department Chairman, will deliver the Baccalaureate address.<\/p>\n

The ceremony will be held at 2:30 P.M. Baccalaureate will be held at 10:30 A.M. at the Civic Center.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The 8th Annual Running of the Pink will be held on Saturday June 6, 2015, at 9-a.m., starting at ending R.M. Stoudt in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Proceeds to to help fund breast & cervical cancer screenings through the local Women’s Way Resource Fund & the Jamestown Regional Medical Center Foundation.<\/p>\n

The event offers participants the opportunity to choose from a 5K Run\/Walk, and a 10K Run.<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Valley City Crews will pick up curbside items at no charge to residents as part of a City-Wide clean up week May 11 through May 15, 2015 \u00a0in Valley City.
\nThe annual clean up is\u00a0 to help residents get rid of unwanted items.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that tree branches, household items, and small landscaping debris will be picked up. Certain items won\u2019t be picked up including medical waste, electronics and appliances.
\nThe city will pick up household garbage, couches, chairs, furniture, shrubs, branches and wood. Do not bag or box branches, just place the items on your boulevard during your regular garbage pickup day.
\nPaints and liquids can be disposed of in a dry form. Cat litter or sawdust can be used to absorb the liquid. Empty can be left out with garbage.
\nThe following items will not be picked up:<\/strong>
\nLeaves and grass need to be taken to the collection site or to the landfill at no charge.
\nTires must be taken to the transfer station.
\nBatteries must be taken to Truck & Auto Salvage or Valley Recycling Center.

CANDO, N.D. (AP) – The Highway Patrol has identified a 20-year-old Cando woman who died after the pickup truck she was driving crashed into a slough.<\/p>\n

Authorities say Hailey Hendrickson lost control of the pickup on a gravel road near the town about 12:15 a.m. Thursday, and it went into a ditch and came to rest on its roof in the slough. She was pronounced dead at a Cando medical center.<\/p>\n

Three passengers in the truck were treated for minor injuries and released.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Casselton Fire Chief Tim McLean says an oil train crash outside that city in December 2013 appears much worse than the one near Heimdal (HYM’-dahl) this week. A resident of Heimdal agrees.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Casselton derailment involved more than twice the amount of crude and different kinds of tanker cars. McLean says another freight train carrying soybeans that also was involved in Casselton provided more fuel for that fire.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New state rules also are in effect now aimed at reducing the volatility of Bakken crude, though McLean says it’s impossible to know whether they would have made a difference at Casselton.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heimdal resident Curt Benson says explosions he witnessed this week were nowhere near the magnitude of the Casselton explosions he saw on television footage.<\/p>\n

A company official says a shipment of crude involved in an explosive train derailment in North Dakota had been treated to reduce its volatility.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hess Corporation spokesman John Roper said the oil was in compliance with a state law that requires propane, butane and other volatile gases to be stripped out of crude before it can be transported.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hoeven says 11 officials with the Federal Railroad Administration will be at the site until Sunday or Monday. A crew of four people with the National Transportation Safety Board will be there for about seven days.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The BNSF Railway train hauling Bakken crude derailed Wednesday morning. No one was hurt but residents of Heimdal evacuated for about a day.

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A man convicted of conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of a northwest North Dakota hobby rancher has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
\n\u00a0 Ryan Stensaker was sentenced Thursday in Minot. A jury in December found the Williston man guilty in the spring 2013 death of 58-year-old Jack Sjol (shohl). Sjol’s body was found in a garbage dump, with bullet wounds to his head, face and upper left arm.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A 25-year-old man has been found guilty in a Jamaican lottery scam that authorities say cost victims around the country millions of dollars. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Bismarck reached their verdict Thursday (backslash)in the case of Sanjay Williams of Montego Bay.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man says he will plead guilty for firing a shotgun at a residence during a drive-by shooting on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Michael Mitzel is charged with four counts, including reckless endangerment, terrorizing and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the vehicle was driven by Mitzel’s girlfriend, Morgan Williams, who pleaded guilty to her role in the crime. Mitzel allegedly try to cover up the shooting by hiding the gun and selling the vehicle.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The plea agreement says Mitzel knew the occupants of the house, but did not know if they were there at the time of the shooting.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The deal with the government calls for Mitzel to plead guilty to three counts. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler is holding a press conference to address Common Core testing problems.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota is one of three states that contract with New Hampshire-based Measured Progress to administer the tests. But the company’s testing has been plagued by technical glitches.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota’s three-year contract started this year and cost $4.6 million.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota adopted Common Core standards in 2011 and began to fully implement them during the current school year. Assessments based on the new standards were to start for all students this spring.

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Fifty-five medical students and 59 law students are eligible to graduate from the University of North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The medical school and law school both are holding their spring commencements Saturday in the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus. The law school ceremony is in the morning and the medical school graduation in the afternoon.

\u3000\u00a0MILNOR, N.D. (AP) – An 18-year-old North Dakota boy who lost both arms in a farm accident 15 years ago is graduating high school and preparing for college in Minnesota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Parker Sebens fell into a running grain auger on the family farm near Milnor in September 2000. He spent 54 days in a medical center near Minneapolis, where he went through more than 50 hours of surgery before an infection forced doctors to amputate his arms.

\nEven without prosthetic arms, Sebens can still do things like driving and texting, using the remaining stumps of his arms. He even shoots pool.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He’ll soon be getting two prosthetic arms, then heading to college at Minnesota State University Moorhead. After college, he’d like to become a motivational speaker.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Park Board is still deciding whether to change the irrigation pond project for Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course.<\/p>\n

At a special meeting to discuss options for an irrigation pond with golf course architect Kevin Norby, the Park Board directed Parks and Rec Director Doug Hogan, Business Manager Sheila Harr, to contact Duininck Inc., a Minnesota-based construction company, to determinethe cost to get out of the existing contract.<\/p>\n

The Park Board is looking at whether it should reverse its decision from October when it approved a change order to an ongoing improvement project at Hillcrest, that included building a new irrigation pond in a low spot between holes Number 10 and 17, along where hole Number. 16 is located. The $486,303 addition would include a new irrigation pond and pumps to pump the water out to the golf course\u2019s aging irrigation system.<\/p>\n

Hogan says if the board withdraws from its contract with Duininck, because the estimated cost for repairing the existing irrigation pond is more than $100,000, by state law the board would have to seek bids and hire an engineer to do engineered drawings for the project.<\/p>\n

Norby says overall he thought repairing the existing irrigation pond would cost about the same as building the new irrigation pond.<\/p>\n
