Jamestown (CSi) Power outages were reported in Jamestown and the region on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

In Jamestown the Southwest part of town was without electricity during the 7-a.m. hour, with power off a few minutes and restored about 7:30-a.m.<\/p>\n

Otter Tail Power\u2019s Charles Krebbs says a squirrel got into the Southwest Substation near Neighborhood Grocery and caused a phased ground fault, which damaged a bushing on the re-closer.<\/p>\n

About 165 Cass County Electric customers were without power Monday morning for less than a half-an-hour.<\/p>\n

The affected area included Maple Valley School District and surrounding communities of Tower City, Buffalo and Wheatland.<\/p>\n

Cass County Electric spokesperson Trudy Wanner said an Otter Tail Power Company feeder line that was knockout for a few minutes caused the power outage for Cass County Electric and Otter Tail Power Company customers for a few minutes on Monday before power was restored.<\/p>\n

About 236 Cass County Electric customers in Colfax Abercrombie and Christine were affected by a power outage that area of southeastern North Dakota on Monday.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called out three times this past weekend, all were garage fires.<\/p>\n

The cause of a two stall unattached garage fire Saturday afternoon, about 2:30 in Southeast Jamestown has been listed.<\/p>\n

City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says a dog knocking over a can of gasoline in the garage spilled the gas and caused an electric “trouble light” to start the fire.<\/p>\n

The owner call 9-1-1. No injuries reported.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to the garage fire in the alley behind 1115 6th Avenue Southeast.<\/p>\n

The two stall garage was fully in involved in flames, shooting several feet into the air when the units arrived on the scene, causing a large amount of smoke to billow<\/p>\n

On-lookers were kept a safe distance away by police, as the garage contained small ammunitions which could be heard popping at the height of the fire.<\/p>\n

A boat also sustained damage by the fire.<\/p>\n

An adjacent garage in the alley to the south had its siding burned and melted, but there appeared to be no structural damage. No other structures were involved.<\/p>\n

A power line was burned by the flames, and Otter Tail Power was called to the scene to attend the down wire and restore power to the area.<\/p>\n

Four city fire units and 20 fire fighters were on the scene just under an hour.<\/p>\n

No injuries reported.<\/p>\n

Two other garage fires were reported over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Chief Reuther says, on Saturday morning about 6:21 city fire fighters were called to a fire at an unattached garage at 720 Third Avenue Northwest.<\/p>\n

Clothing and furniture were burned, with smoke damage to the interior of the garage. No other structures were involved.<\/p>\n

Four city fire units and 25 fire fighters were on the scene. No injuries reported.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is “undetermined,” unless additional information is obtained.<\/p>\n

On Sunday morning about 10:30 the city fire department was called to fire at an unattached garage at 723 Third Avenue Northwest, where a heater ignited paper in the garage. Minor damage was reported. The units were on the scene about 20 as the owner had extinguished the fire before the units arrived.<\/p>\n

No other structures were involved.<\/p>\n

Three units were called and 24 fire fighters. No injuries reported.<\/p>\n

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man faces several charges after he drove through a fence and later used a 6-year-old girl as a shield during his arrest.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Valley City Police Department Chief Fred Thompson says 28-year-old Carson Messmer has been arrested on charges including reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thompson says the Fessenden man on Sunday drove through a farm’s fence and into a pile of dirt, which sent his pickup into the air. Messmer and the girl traveling with him then left the area on foot.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thompson says officers later located Messmer, who held the girl as a shield when an officer pointed a stun gun at him. Officers managed to arrest Messmer, and he was taken to a hospital along with the girl.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Barnes County Social Services took custody of the girl, while Messmer was taken to jail. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – An attorney for the state says a North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent may have made a mistake when he gave away a confiscated pay loader that was bought in Iowa by a Forbes man, but the agent should not be required to pay for the loss.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state is appealing a judge’s order that agent Arnie Rummel pay nearly $54,000 for the loader, which was taken from Darrell Schrum’s shop because authorities believed the equipment was stolen.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officers on Christmas Day responded to a report of a man breaking windows in a Fargo neighborhood. After arriving to the scene, officers found Habiger without shoes and with cuts to his feet that appeared to have been caused by glass.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officers then discovered that he had been involved in a dispute with a woman, who authorities say suffered injuries to the head after being hit several times and choked.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Ground has been broken for a new Bismarck-area jail for Burleigh and Morton counties.

\nA \u00a0groundbreaking ceremony was held last week for the two-county jail.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bids totaling $79 million have been awarded with $3.9 million earmarked for renovations to the existing counties’ jails.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Voters in both counties last year approved an additional half-cent sales tax to pay for the 476-inmate jail in southeast Bismarck.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Greg Power says surveys show no major fish kill at any of the state’s 420 lakes. He says a relatively mild winter and lack of excessive snowfall is the reason.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Winterkill happens when heavy snowfall blocks sunlight from going into lakes. Plants die and stop giving off oxygen, and they also consume oxygen as they decompose. That limits oxygen available for fish.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Power says biologist have been sampling suspected winterkill lakes for at least 50 years.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He says North Dakota typically has winterkill at about 10 lakes annually. Record snowfall across North Dakota during the 2008-09 winter led to a major fish kill on about 50 lakes.<\/p>\n

LAKE MARY, Fla. (AP) – A lawyer for George Zimmerman says his client wasn’t seriously injured after being involved in a shooting in Florida. Attorney Don West says a bullet missed Zimmerman’s head in Monday’s shooting in the Orlando suburb of Lake Mary. He says Zimmerman was sprayed with glass from his vehicle’s windshield and other debris, but that he’s now been released from a hospital. Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, in a case that sparked protests and national debate about race relations.

(AP) – Corrections officials believe other inmates likely killed two prisoners who died during a disturbance at a maximum security prison in southeast Nebraska. The deaths were discovered today as officials regained control of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution. The state’s corrections director says 100 to 200 of the roughly 1,000 inmates at the prison were involved in the disturbance that began Sunday afternoon.

A spokesman says journalist Seymour Hersh’s piece in the London Review of Books is “riddled with inaccuracies and outright falsehoods.” Hersh attributes his information to a retired general of the Pakistani intelligence service and several unidentified sources in the U.S. and Pakistan. He says bin Laden was secretly kept as a prisoner by the Pakistanis and that they helped the U.S. stage the raid on his compound.
