Jamestown (CSi) Activity is stepping up for the Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC) after voters Tuesday approved the one percent sales tax to fund construction of the first phase.<\/p>\n

The one percent sales tax will also likely go into effect on Jan. 1, 2016.<\/p>\n

The city tax requires a change to Jamestown ordinances that needs two readings at City Council meetings.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Office of Tax Commissioner also requires three months lead time to implement a local tax.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department Director, Doug Hogan says,the first move toward construction starts at the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Commission\u2019s meeting on Monday, with a presentation from Interstate Engineering concerning the construction management process, putting together the specs for the project.<\/p>\n

Hogan said no decisions on contractors or construction managers have been made, although he hoped they could work with local companies.<\/p>\n

Converting the conceptual plan for TRAC to a detailed floor plan is one of the next steps.<\/p>\n

The tax was approved by voters Tuesday with an unofficial 1,771 votes in favor to 1,178 opposed. The Jamestown City Council will serve as a canvassing board Monday to review the election and declare the results official.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, James River Family Fitness continues to operate. JRFF operations will transfer to TRAC when the facility is complete.<\/p>\n

JRFF Executive Director, Frank Conlon says the facility may offer additional programing in the fall to make up for the lack of swimming programs. This may include youth weight training and possibly dodgeball, based on public interest.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The Stutsman County Commission approved officially notifying the Road Weight Enforcement Board that Stutsman County will terminate its involvement in the board either by the end of this year or sooner, depending on what board members want to do<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>The Road Weight Enforcement Board, a multicounty truck regulatory enforcement agency formed by Stutsman, Barnes, Dickey and LaMoure counties in 2011.<\/p>\n

Tim Gillespie has served as the Road Weight Enforcement Board’s truck regulation enforcement officer.<\/p>\n

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser told the Stutsman County Commission that Gillespie was involved in a felony stop on U.S. Highway 281 south of Jamestown on May 20. Kaiser said he and Gillespie had a difference of opinion in how Gillespie conducted himself during the stop. After reading Gillespie’s report about the incident, Kaiser said he decided to terminate Gillespie’s authority in Stutsman County.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County Relay for Life is set for Friday June 5, 2015, starting at 2-p.m., and going until 2-a.m., on Saturday June 6th, <\/sup>at the University of Jamestown\u2019s Taylor Stadium.<\/p>\n

Co-Chair, Pam Phillips says, opening ceremonies will be at 6-p.m., Friday.<\/p>\n

Returning this year as a fundraiser is the “Miss Relay Contest,” where men dress up as women, and votes for favorites are donations to Relay for Life.<\/p>\n

Luminaries will be set up along the track, along with reading of names.<\/p>\n

This year, on Friday evening, the scheduled the North Dakota Fire Fighters Association State Convention, parade featuring “Vivian The Pink Fire Truck,” and the Aberdeen Pipes & Drum Corps, will do one lap around the stadium track to honor an Association past-president who passed away this last year from cancer, and as a tribute to fire fighters who have passed away.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Benefits continue to be scheduled for Shawn Durfee who was involved in a motorcycle-car accident in Jamestown that led to a below-the-knee amputation on his left leg.<\/p>\n

On the afternoon of April 28, 2015, 40 year-old Shawn Durfee was struck by a car while driving his motorcycle on First Avenue North in Jamestown receiving extensive injuries to his left leg and wrist.<\/p>\n

After treatment in Jamestown, he was airlifted to a Fargo hospital where he has undergone several surgeries and many more will be required.<\/p>\n

The Individual Motorcycle Club and Dennis Barton from the FM Crusaders Motorcycle Club have set up a benefit bike ride<\/strong> that will be held June 6, 2015<\/strong> and begins in Jamestown. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Corner Bar. The cost for the bike ride is $20 per driver and $10 for a passenger, and will begin at noon at the Corner Bar in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The route will be to Courtenay, Glenfield, Hannaford, Dazey and Sanborn before returning to the Corner Bar in Jamestown. A hog roast, a pool tournament and a live and silent auction have also been planned for that day.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Two Fargo police officers will be placed on administrative leave following the shooting of a robbery suspect who police say fired first.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Chief Dave Todd\u00a0says \u00a0a man with a gun approached the desk of the Howard Johnson Inn on Thursday afternoon and demanded money.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Todd says the man fired one round from a handgun in the hotel before he was given money.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As he fled, two officers saw the suspect near a gas station. Todd says as they approached him, the suspect fired several rounds. He says the officers exchanged fire and that it appears the suspect was hit by one round.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Neither officer was injured.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The man was taken to nearby Sanford Medical Center. Todd says he doesn’t know the man’s condition.<\/p>\n

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police are investigating what happened to a six-month-old infant from Fargo who’s now on life support in a Minneapolis hospital.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Police were called to an unlicensed home daycare in West Fargo on Monday after receiving a report of a baby who wasn’t breathing. The daycare provider was performing CPR on the infant when officers arrived.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The child was taken to the Essentia hospital in Fargo and later flown to Minneapolis.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 West Fargo Police Chief Mike Reitan says it was determined that the baby has internal injuries. They’re working on determining how and where the child was injured.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A judge says a former North Dakota teacher of the year can be retried on two of five charges alleging a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student in 2009.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The trial for Aaron Knodel ended abruptly in April following one juror’s medical emergency while they were deliberating. Knodel later filed a motion for acquittal on all charges.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A district judge ruled Thursday to acquit Knodel on three charges and left it up to the state on whether they want to retry him on the other counts.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Liz Brocker, spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, says the state is reviewing the court’s order and will “make a determination in due course.”

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – More fake money is showing up in Fargo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Lt. Joel Vettel says counterfeit $50 and $100 bills were passed over the weekend. He says the fake currency appears to have been made with a laser printer and is easy to spot. The bogus bills are the work of the same person or group.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Counterfeit bills in various denominations turned up at stores and banks throughout the Fargo area in March and April. Last month, a Fargo man was arrested for passing counterfeit bills at several restaurants in neighboring Moorhead, Minnesota. The man told police he bought the fake currency online.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Jurors in Minot are deliberating the fate of a Minot Air Force Base woman accused of causing a fatal accident in the city two years ago.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The trial of 32-year-old Maria Sutton began Tuesday, and jurors got the case Thursday afternoon. Judge Doug Mattson sent them home Thursday evening with orders to reconvene Friday morning.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sutton is accused of driving her car in the wrong lane in June 2013 and striking a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Robert Morrison head-on, killing the Westhope man.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sutton pleaded not guilty to a felony negligent homicide charge that carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The recent energy boom in western North Dakota has fueled a growth in housing units unsurpassed in the nation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A new Census Bureau report shows that North Dakota had the fastest rate of growth in housing units in the country between 2010 and 2014, and also between 2013 and 2014.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Among U.S. counties with at least 5,000 housing units, Williams County in the oil patch had the fastest growth rate between 2013 and 2014 at 11.6 percent and also between 2010 and 2014 at 56.8 percent.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 David Nordenstrom is one builder who is taking advantage of the demand for housing in Williams County. The owner of Nordenstrom Custom Homes Inc. in Mora, Minnesota, opened a satellite office in Williston and says he’s seen steady business the past five years.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sanford says just a month ago, rents ranges from between $3,200 to $3,400 a month. Now they range from $1,600 to $2,200.
