Valley City (CSi) The Valley City Fire Department was called to Wells Fargo Bank at about 1:25 p.m., Monday.<\/p>\n

Fire Chief Gary Retterath says no flames were visible, adding, that caused a delay in finding the source of the smell of smoke, which may have been caused by a faulty electric motor, or light fixture.<\/p>\n

Fire fighters extracted smoke from the building, and bank officials will have a repair company locate and repair the issue.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Canvassing board, consisting of the five City Council Members, Monday, certified the June 2, 2015 election ballots, where voters approved the one percent City Sales Tax for the construction and operation of the first phase of the Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC.)<\/p>\n

City Administrator Jeff Fuchs says the \u2018yes\u2019 votes were 1773 compared to the unofficial total of 1771<\/p>\n

The \u2018no\u2019 votes went from 1178 to 1180.<\/p>\n

Fuchs says the four additional votes stemmed from:<\/p>\n

One ballot approved, which was held for the signature comparison.<\/p>\n

One ballot that was added had not been signed by a long-term care resident.<\/p>\n

Two ballots that were added did not have initials by election officials.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) The Valley City Public School Public School District school board election is today to elect the At-Large position.<\/p>\n

Incumbent Rick Ross is seeking another term on the school board. Ross is near the end of his first 4-year term.<\/p>\n

Ross is an assistant professor at Valley City State University in the Division of Business & Information Technology Department.<\/p>\n

Valley City resident Rich Schueneman is on the ballot for the At-Large position now held by Ross. Schueneman is the Bald Hill Dam Resource Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and previously served as a Valley City Commissioner.<\/p>\n

The one polling place is at the school district Administration Building at 460 Central Avenue North. The polls will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) A fundraiser for the James River Humane Society is \u2018A very Special Elvis Presley Display,” presented by Jack and Betty Gorman of Jamestown.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s Wayne Byers show on CSi Cable 2, Jack said, that on Wednesday and Thursday, June 24, 25, 2015 the All Vets Club, lower level, in Jamestown will be open from 9-a.m., to 6-p.m.<\/p>\n

Jerry Perkins says all the employees now working in Valley City will remain with the dealership.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Sheriff’s Office says emergency responders rescued four other people from the home near Blanchard late Sunday.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Capt. Tony Ernst says local and state investigators have determined that a propane-fueled water heater being used with a swimming pool was improperly vented and caused the deadly carbon monoxide gas to build up inside the home. No foul play is suspected.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dead are 53-year-old homeowner Ross Matejcek, 27-year-old Ricky Fisher of Blanchard, 24-year-old Margaret Fisher of Portland, and 6-year-old Jabin Newmes of Portland.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A 23-year-old Bismarck woman is accused of leaving two small children alone in a car while she shoplifted from a Wal-Mart store.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities allege Dawn Morsette left the 3- and 5-year-old children alone in a car with the front windows rolled halfway down for more than half an hour on Friday while she went into the store. The children were discovered after Morsette was apprehended for shoplifting.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Morsette faces a felony child neglect charge in state court that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Court documents do not list an attorney for her, and a home telephone listing couldn’t be found.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Morsette pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge in municipal court and was sentenced to three days in jail.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo man accused of sexually assaulting two teenage girls has pleaded not guilty in state court. Samuel Taylor is charged with felony gross sexual imposition and corruption of a minor. Authorities say the victims were ages 16 and 13. The allegations against Taylor date back to 2013.<\/p>\n

\u00a0SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Five men have been charged in federal court in South Dakota with attempted commercial sex trafficking.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the charges relate to responses to online advertisements during an undercover operation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Those indicted are 25-year-old Benjamin Iverson and 29-year-old Scott Larson of Sioux Falls; 27-year-old Nathanuel Downs of Sioux City, Iowa; 29-year-old Lance Hunter Jr. of Little Rock, Iowa; and 26-year-old Jose Oxlaj of Guatemala.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All of the defendants have pleaded not guilty.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Bail has been set at $1 million for an Iowa man accused of robbing a downtown Fargo motel and shooting at police.

\n\u00a0\u00a0A \u00a0court appearance was held Monday at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo where Eric Webb, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa is recovering from injuries suffered in a shootout with police. Webb is charged with robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say Webb demanded money and fired a shot into the front desk of the Howard Johnson motel during the Thursday afternoon robbery. Webb fled on foot before he was spotted by officers a few blocks away.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say one officer fired twice at Webb, whose condition has not been released. No other people were hurt in the incident.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – State prosecutors in the case of a former North Dakota teacher of year accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student in 2009 say they need more time to prepare for a second trial.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first trial for West Fargo High School teacher Aaron Knodel ended abruptly in April following one juror’s medical emergency while they were deliberating. A judge last week threw out three charges against Knodel but said he could be retried on the two remaining counts of felony corruption or solicitation of a minor.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say in documents filed Monday that the June 23 trial date is a “simply unrealistic and unfair” time frame. The state says it plans to ask for a change of venue.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A six-member committee has reached a compromise on an unresolved measure in the Legislature that affects public employee benefits.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The panel agreed Monday to add one lawmaker from each party to the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System board. The seven-member panel was criticized by some lawmakers when it awarded a contract that will make Sanford Health Plan the insurance carrier for thousands of public employees – including lawmakers – on July 1.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The session ended in April two days short of the maximum permitted under the state constitution. But the House and Senate were still at odds over policy changes in a budget bill that House budget writers inserted to ensure that public employees could keep the same health benefits and medical providers when their insurer changes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Rainfall up to 3 inches in the last week halted fieldwork in the northern half of North Dakota. The Agriculture Department says topsoil moisture was rated 3 percent short, 72 percent adequate and 25 percent surplus. The report says conditions for most crops were in the 70 to 80 percent range good or excellent.<\/p>\n

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – The mayor of Devils Lakes says a city committee has finished work on a proposed development agreement with a company planning an oil refinery on the western edge of the city.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mayor Dick Johnson says one of the provisions in the proposed deal would require Eagles Ledge Energy and one of its subsidiaries to make a payment to the city that is equal to 2.5 percent of the refinery’s annual earning, minus some deductions.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Johnson says the agreement covers numerous issues such as environmental safeguards and other contingency plans for potential mishaps.\u00a0

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota lawmakers this year approved a measure to create a pilot project aimed at the estimated 1 million tons of drilling waste produced annually in the state.

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota University System has launched the search for a new president for Dickinson State University.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 President D.C. Coston announced in February that he plans to retire once a new leader is found. He’s been the school’s president since 2011, after spending six years as vice president for agriculture and university extension at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The university system has contracted with a consultant to help with the search for his successor. The deadline for candidates to apply is Aug. 3.

\u00a0INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The NCAA’s Playing Rules Oversight Panel has approved several changes in men’s basketball. The shot clock in men’s basketball has been reduced from 35 to 30 seconds, and the number of timeouts in the second half has been cut from four to three. The panel also eliminated some of the extra stoppages by using any timeout called within 30 seconds of a media timeout as the scheduled break.<\/p>\n

AMES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa State has hired Murray State’s Steve Prohm as its men’s basketball coach. Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard confirmed that Prohm will replace Fred Hoiberg, who left last week after five seasons to take over the Chicago Bulls. The 40-year-old Prohm was 104-29 in four years at Murray State. He led the Racers to 29 wins, including a 16-0 regular-season mark in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2014-15.<\/p>\n
