BI\"\"<\/a>SMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2013 North Dakota\u2019s taxable sales and purchases<\/p>\n

shot up 52 percent during January, February and March when compared<\/p>\n

to the same three months a year ago.<\/p>\n

North Dakota\u2019s Tax Department says the state recorded $5.3<\/p>\n

billion in taxable sales and purchases during the first quarter.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Cory Fong says taxable sales and purchases almost<\/p>\n

doubled over last year in the oil and mining sector alone.<\/p>\n

Construction went up 113 percent.<\/p>\n

Fong says almost all of North Dakota\u2019s economic sectors are<\/p>\n

growing.<\/p>\n

Fong says of North Dakota\u2019s largest cities, 40 of them showed<\/p>\n

double- or triple-digit percentage growth during the quarter.<\/p>\n

North Dakota already has one of the nation\u2019s lowest unemployment<\/p>\n

rates. Fong says: \u201cWe are growing at a level beyond what we could<\/p>\n

have expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the regional taxable sales and purchases for the first quarter of 2012<\/p>\n

compared to the first quarter of 2011:<\/p>\n

Barnes County\u2026$20.4 million up 14.45%<\/p>\n

Foster County\u2026$11.1 million up 8.7%<\/p>\n

Stutsman County\u2026$55.1 million up 14.49%<\/p>\n

LaMoure County\u2026$10.1 million up16.46%<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u2026$53.2 million up 14.40%<\/p>\n

Carrington\u2026$10.9 million up 12.7%<\/p>\n

Valley City\u2026$19 million up 15.75%<\/p>\n
