Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department will be offering lap swimming at the high school swimming pool starting July 1, 2015 and to continue through the opening of the Two Rivers Activities Center (TRAC).<\/p>\n

The standard hours are 6:15 AM \u2013 7:45 AM Monday \u2013 Thursday 6:00 PM \u2013 7:00 PM Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. This time is for lap swimming only. We believe the dates and times will be standard, but there may be circumstances that may make various dates\/times unavailable. A monthly calendar will be created and shared with participants to outline any changes well in advance.<\/p>\n

All swimmers will enter and exit through the main high school doors. A check-in form will be provided at the pool. For security purposes, all swimmers will be required to sign in when they arrive and depart from the swimming pool facility.<\/p>\n

Participants in the Lap Swimming Program will utilize the Varsity Locker Rooms for both the morning and evening sessions. Lockers will be available, but swimmers will need to bring their own locks. We would ask that locks and all materials be removed after each swimming session.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown Parks and Recreation will provide pool monitoring and lifeguards for the lap swimmers. There will be no charge for James River Family Fitness Members, however they will need to show membership card when particicating, for non-members a monthly pass can be purchased for $30.00 at the Jamestown Parks and Recreation office, 1002 2nd<\/sup> Ave. SE. Jamestown, ND \u2013 Jamestown Tourism sponsors the annual fireworks display, on Saturday, July 4.<\/p>\n

Tourism Director Searle Swedlund says, The best viewing of the community fireworks display will be Jamestown Speedway grandstand on the Stutsman County Fairgrounds. The display begins around 10:30 p.m. (when it gets dark).<\/p>\n

As a reminder, leave your fireworks at home. No fireworks will be allowed in Stutsman County Fairgrounds. Jamestown<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Gov. Jack Dalrymple says North Dakota will abide by the Supreme Court ruling that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United States.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple issued a statement calling the ruling “a federal mandate” and said North Dakota would comply.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The ruling nullifies North Dakota’s nearly 11-year-old constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. In 2004, 73 percent of voters in the state approved the amendment.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state’s ban had been under fire, with two lawsuits challenging it in federal court.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police in Fargo say a years-old shoplifting warrant gave detectives some extra times as they built their case against the suspect in two recent homicides.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lt. Joel Vettel says the shoplifting warrant against 35-year-old Ashley Hunter allowed police to hold the Fargo man while detectives gathered evidence linking him to the homicides.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hunter has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of 45-year-old Clarence Flowers and 25-year-old Samuel Traut.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Hunter was acquainted with Flowers, who was stabbed to death in his apartment Monday. Hunter didn’t know Traut, who lived in an apartment building directly behind Hunter’s residence.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The shoplifting warrant was issued in November 2013. It accuses Hunter of stealing a chicken from a grocery store.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say 36-year-old Vernon Brekhus (BREHK’-uhs) was caught by a law officer working undercover online. A search warrant for his home turned up computers and other electronic devices with nearly 800 pictures and 16 videos of child porn.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Acting U.S. Attorney Christopher Myers says that after Brekhus serves his prison term, he will be on supervised release for the rest of his life. He also must pay $1,500 in restitution.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Acting U.S. Attorney Christopher Myers says the federal government was defrauded out of more than $365,000 between March 2011 and March 2013.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Officials say North Dakota’s robust economy may be driving up the state’s population but it’s also causing some driver frustration from unprecedented traffic congestion.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney says people “are just not used to” increased traffic in North Dakota’s biggest city and most anywhere else in the state.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Census Bureau data show the number of workers in the Fargo metro area rose from 106,489 in 2007 to more than 123,247 in 2013. The average commute time for those workers jumped from just under 16 minutes in 2007 to almost 23 minutes in 2013.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin says traffic congestion is new to his city. He says there was no such thing as a rush hour in Bismarck until a few years ago.<\/p>\n

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – Grahams Island State Park on Devils Lake is hosting a celebration of the 50th anniversary of North Dakota’s Parks and Recreation Department.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Saturday event will include food, entertainment and a commemorative tree planting. Department mascot Roscoe the Raccoon will be on hand, and the agency’s 50th Anniversary Traveling Exhibit trailer will be open for tours.

\u00a0MALONE, N.Y. (AP) –\u00a0\u00a0 One of two convicted killers who staged a brazen escape from an upstate New York maximum-security prison and had been hunted for three weeks has been shot and killed.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An official with knowledge of the manhunt says Richard Matt was killed and David Sweat is still on the run. The official wasn’t authorized to talk about the development publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on Friday on the condition of anonymity.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Andrew Cuomo (KWOH’-moh) says Matt and Sweat used power tools to saw through a steel cell wall and several steel steam pipes, bashed a hole through a 2-foot-thick brick wall, squirmed through pipes and escaped early on June 6 from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, near the Canadian border.

\u00a0UNDATED (AP) – Two important religious groups that oppose gay marriage are denouncing Friday’s Supreme Court decision legalizing it in every state. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops calls the ruling “profoundly immoral and unjust.” And evangelical leaders who are part of the Southern Baptist Convention, along with other churches and Christian groups, say there can be no capitulation in defending traditional marriage. They say “biblical authority” requires the struggle against same-sex marriage to continue.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PARIS (AP) – The U.S. Embassy in Paris is warning American citizens to be vigilant after an attack on a U.S.-owned gas factory in southeastern France. French authorities say a man once flagged for ties to French Islamic radicals rammed a vehicle into the factory Friday, triggering an explosion that injured two people. The severed head of the driver’s employer was left hanging at the factory’s entrance, along with banners with Arabic inscriptions.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – Recovery efforts are set to resume at a remote site in southeastern Alaska where a sightseeing plane crashed, killing all nine people aboard. Officials say the crash site is on an 800-foot cliff above a lake, and crews will have to hike over steep, muddy terrain to reach the wreckage. Wind and rain ended recovery efforts last night.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to site of a crash in southern Tennessee that killed six people. Chattanooga police say it happened on Interstate 75\u00a0Thursday evening when a semi hit eight other vehicles that were stopped due to construction. Police say a total of 18 people in nine vehicles were involved in the crash. Six died, six were taken to area hospitals and six weren’t injured.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 AVON, N.C. (AP) – Authorities say a man has been bitten multiple times by a shark on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the fifth such attack in the past two weeks. Media outlets report a 47-year-old man was bitten on the back today while he was in the surf off Avon on Hatteras Island. WVEC-TV says he was being taken to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Red flags have been raised at Avon alerting beachgoers to the attack.
