LOWS<br \/>\nIN THE MID 60S.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE NEXT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS FRIDAY NIGHT&#8230;CONTINUING<\/p>\n<p>THROUGH THE WEEKEND&#8230;WITH SLIGHT CHANCES MONDAY THROUGH<\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Commission appointed Chairman Mark Klose and member Dave Schultz to a committee to look into options for the future of the Stutsman County Correctional Center.<\/p>\n<p>Klose and Schultz represent the Commission on the Stutsman County Correctional Center Governing Authority Board.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Jamestown also has representatives on the committee, Mayor Katie Andersen and Councilman Ramone Gumke, were approved by the City Council.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the committee are: Stutsman County COO\/Auditor, Casey Bradley, Stutsman County Correctional Center Director Chad Jackson, Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser and Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger.<\/p>\n<p>The committee will compile a request for proposals for architectural services looking into the costs of constructing an addition to the correctional center.<\/p>\n<p>Information will be gathered before making any recommendation about expanding the current correctional center or building a new one.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley told the City Council and the County Commission that the correctional center can house up to 96 inmates. For the correctional center to pay for itself, there has to be 48 paying inmates housed per day to cover the center&#8217;s operational cost of $1.15 million based on a fee of $65 per day per inmate housed.<\/p>\n<p>However, the jail is seeing more local inmates, and the state requires that the county house local inmates at no cost to the inmate.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley said by the end of the year the projected revenue shortfall, is about $379,600.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Arts Center\u2019s newsletter states that work on the Arts Park is beginning soon.\u00a0It will include clearing the lot to make way for the new construction.<br \/>\nIt says if anyone has a particular affection for any of the trees currently in the park, to contact Arts Center, office right away.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A malfunctioning carnival ride at the Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo sent a 6-year-old boy to the hospital.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mother Brandee Godfrey says her son suffered bumps and bruises but is fine.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Murphy Bros. ride is similar to a merry-go-round, with pretend motorcycles for children to ride. The motorcycles are fixed to a platform, but the one Godfrey&#8217;s son was on Tuesday came loose. He fell about 2 feet, with the motorcycle landing on top of him.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fair Association General Manager Bryan Schulz says safety is a priority for officials, and the injury is the first in the 8\u00a0 1\/2 years he&#8217;s been at the fair.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota doesn&#8217;t require daily inspections of carnival rides. Instead, each ride is certified at the beginning of the season.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BEULAH, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Fire has destroyed a city building in Beulah.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 6,000-square-foot building was used to store maintenance equipment including lawnmowers and trucks. Fire Chief Dave Layton says \u00a0one of the trucks started on fire Wednesday afternoon, and the flames spread to the building.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No one was inside at the time of the fire.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A damage estimate was not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GREAT BEND, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Fire has destroyed a motor home on Interstate 29 in North Dakota, causing traffic to back up for miles.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The blaze started around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday near the Great Bend exit south of Wahpeton. Traffic was shut down on the southbound lane near mile marker 18.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0 Two unidentified people from Parker, South Dakota, were inside the motor home when the fire began and got out safely.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The station reports authorities haven&#8217;t determined what caused the motor home to catch on fire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say four people fired pistols into the air and at a Williston highway in the middle of the city&#8217;s Fourth of July fireworks display.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The four have been charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm within city limits. Court records say they were caught on video firing two pistols near a Williston hotel shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to court records, two men watching fireworks saw the group using the pistols. One witness called 911, while another took video of the group.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court records say officers found multiple shell casings, as well as the guns and magazines for ammunition in one suspect&#8217;s car.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 suspects were booked into the Williams County Correctional Center and posted $5,000 bond.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The lawyer for the Iowa man accused of robbing a Fargo hotel and shooting at police says the case could be moved to federal court.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-year-old Eric Webb, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, appeared in court Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorney Patrick Rosenquist says it would be &#8220;inappropriate&#8221; for him to comment why federal prosecutors could choose to indict Webb, but Rosenquist adds it has been related to him that that could be the case.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Webb was injured in a shootout with police on June 4, after authorities allege he robbed a hotel. Webb is charged with robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About two weeks after the incident, a newspaper reported receiving a letter from Webb admitting to shooting first at police. Authorities believe the letter is authentic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) &#8211; The search for a North Dakota doctor last seen in southwestern Montana has moved after officials received a tip. Patrick J. Fitzpatrick was last seen in Bozeman on July 3rd. His vehicle was discovered abandoned south of Willow Creek the next day. Fitzpatrick is described as 6 feet tall and about 250 pound with gray eyes and white hair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple has appointed a Grand Forks attorney to fill the vacancy in a state court created by the retirement of a judge.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dalrymple on Wednesday announced the appointment of John Thelen to the Northeast Central Judicial District Court bench. He&#8217;ll take the place of Lawrence Jahnke who retired earlier this year.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The judgeship is based in Grand Forks and covers the counties of Grand Forks and Nelson.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thelen has served as judicial referee and magistrate with Grand Forks County since 2009, focusing on areas that include juvenile court, family law and child support enforcement. He also has 28 years of experience in private practice.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thelen is a graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law. He will begin serving on the bench next month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; A House panel has issued a subpoena to Secretary of State John Kerry for department documents, reports and letters related to the contentious push to build the Keystone XL pipeline.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announced the subpoena on Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The $8 billion pipeline would transport oil harvested from Canada&#8217;s tar sands to pipelines linked to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Earlier this year, Congress approved legislation to build the pipeline and sent the measure to President Barack Obama. The president vetoed the bill and the GOP-run Senate failed to override the veto in March.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Obama has said that the bill circumvented the well-established process for approving cross-border pipelines, which must be determined to be in the national interest.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Young zebra mussels have been found in the Red River at several locations downstream from Wahpeton for the first time.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota&#8217;s Game and Fish Department says a June survey found a &#8220;significant&#8221; number of zebra mussel larvae at Wahpeton, Abercrombie, Fargo, Grand Forks, Drayton and Pembina.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zebra mussel larvae were found in the Wahpeton area in 2010, 2011 and 2014, but not north of the city.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The only known population of zebra mussels within the Red River basin is an established population of adults in the Otter Tail River watershed in Minnesota. Biologists now wonder if there are undiscovered colonies of adult zebra mussels elsewhere within the Red River watershed.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zebra mussels compete with native species, clog water intakes and can even sink docks and buoys with their weight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Grand Forks officials are holding a public meeting to discuss possible railroad crossing adjustments if the North Dakota State Mill adjusts its rail service.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The mill is looking at moving their service from tracks south of U.S. Highway 2, or Gateway Drive, to tracks along North 42nd Street. The proposed change is part of a $27 million expansion project at the mill, which has been shipping record amounts of flour in recent years<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials are looking for ways to ease congestion that would result along 42nd Street. There&#8217;s also a proposal for a new railroad crossing on North Washington Street.
