SOME OF<\/p>\n<p>THESE STORMS COULD BE SEVERE.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE THE PRIMARY THREAT.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County\/Jamestown committee has approved searching for a consultant to look at whether an addition to the county jail is feasible, and budgeting $60,000 along with and agreeing to divide the costs between the city and county.<\/p>\n<p>The consultant will determine the probable costs of an addition to the existing Stutsman County Correctional Center.<\/p>\n<p>The cost to build a new facility would also be included in case the existing jail\u2019s structure could not support an addition with the necessary design requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The current building was designed to allow for an additional floor, Bradley said, and the consultant would determine if it could support an addition that meets the project goals of doubling the inmate population to 96.<\/p>\n<p>When a construction project is proposed the committee could look at what the splitting factors are at that point.<\/p>\n<p>The Request For Proposals requires that an architect have experience with designing similar jail facilities and experience working with the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>The RFP also requires a comparison study with a new separate facility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) The Barnes County Commission, on a 4-1 vote has approved a funding request, from Valley City\/Barnes County Development, for the National Guard facility.<\/p>\n<p>Barnes County Commissioner Rodger Berntson told Valley City Barnes County Director of Development Jennifer Feist he would not support a Development Corporation funding request concerning the corridor development and voted against the motion to approve.<\/p>\n<p>Financing for the project is in place, as construction has started.<\/p>\n<p>Feist said the funding is being used to finance infrastructure work like water, sanitary, and storm sewers and a lift station for the corridor development project.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement the Development Corporation makes annual requests of $70,000 in funding dedicated for economic development for the project over a 15 year period.<\/p>\n<p>The financing is in place and construction is underway for the new National Guard Facility on the eastern edge of Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>But Barnes County Commissioner Rodger Berntson told Valley City Barnes County Director of Development Jennifer Feist he would not support a Development Corporation funding request concerning the corridor development.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement the Development Corporation has to make annual requests of $70,000 in funding dedicated for economic development for this project over a 15 year period.<\/p>\n<p>Feist said the funding is being used to finance infrastructure work like water, sanitary, and storm sewers and a lift station for the corridor development project.<\/p>\n<p>In the end the commission voted for 4 to one in favor of the funding request. (AP) &#8211; A federal appeals court has affirmed a ruling that struck down a North Dakota law banning abortions when a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld the decision last year of a federal judge who ruled the law was unconstitutional. Abortion rights supporters have called it the most restrictive abortion law in the country.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The law was approved by the Republican-dominated Legislature in 2013, though it was quickly put on hold after North Dakota&#8217;s lone abortion clinic filed a lawsuit that July.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The measure was among four anti-abortion bills that Republican Gov. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say an intoxicated man suffered a severed foot and &#8220;significant&#8221; internal injuries after he was hit by a train at a crossing in downtown Fargo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The incident happened at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police identified the man as 49-year-old Derrick Jongward, who has no permanent address.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sgt. Shane Aberle says the train&#8217;s conductor spotted Jongward sitting on the tracks. Aberle says the train horn was sounded but the man didn&#8217;t move. The engine&#8217;s guard pushed the man off the tracks but his left foot was run over by the train.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was taken to a Fargo hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say a Minot woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after the vehicle she was driving rear-ended two police bike patrol units, injuring one officer.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n33-year-old Nicole Bennett-Spitzer was taken to the Ward County Jail following the crash early Monday morning.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the bike patrol units had their emergency lights activated during the traffic stop when the vehicle crashed into them.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say an officer sustained minor injuries in the accident and later returned to work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MANDAN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Four lawyers have been named finalists for a newly created judgeship that will be chambered in Mandan.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Supreme Court created the judgeship in the South Central District after the Legislature earlier this year approved four new judgeships around the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The finalists are John Grinsteiner, Wade Mann, Mandy Maxon and Matthew Sagsveen.
