Local FOP liaison Nellie Degen said, an item from the recent PERS meeting, is being proposed as a courtesy to officers, which is for them to have the option to be able to make contributions to their retirement fund earlier than now. The committee will review information from the PERS policy, and review the request prior to 2016 budget time.

The committee recommends approving the City County Jail Committee’s Architectural Services Jail Study in the budget amount of $60,000, with the City County share of the cost to be 50%-50%.

Stutsman County/Jamestown committee has approved searching for a consultant to look at whether an addition to the county jail is feasible, and budgeting $60,000 along with and agreeing to divide the costs between the city and county.

The consultant will determine the probable costs of an addition to the existing Stutsman County Correctional Center.

The cost to build a new facility would also be included in case the existing jail’s structure could not support an addition with the necessary design requirements.

Fire Committee

Informational:

The Second Reading of an Ordinance to amend and re-enact a section of the code of the City of Jamestown, North Dakota, pertaining to Group Day Care Facilities, will come before the August City Council meting.

Public Works Committee

Discussion related to the sewer repairs in Southeast Jamestown. City Engineer, Reed Schwartzkopf said the project is going well, with cross areas now being checked for interconnections, and infiltration points have been identified. Residents in that repair area still be asked to keep sewer floor drains plugged, as a precaution.

Discussion then concerned parking issues on 10th Street Southeast, and possible adoption of site triangles, and clear zones. Schwartzkoph said a number of areas are under consideration, and would be indicated by signage, and painting, and will be changed in sections. No parking will be allowed near the intersections where indicated.

The city will be looking into a possible Ordinance or another method to address the issues.

The meeting was shown live on CSi Cable 67 followed by replays.

BISMARCK, N.D. There aren’t many, according to top administration officials, when it comes to the Iran nuclear deal. Secretary of State John Kerry told members of a Senate panel that exercising a military option to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons would be extremely complicated — and that the United States would have to do so without the support of its allies. But one Republican senator said that anyone who believes the accord is a good deal is among “the most naive people on the face of the earth.”

DENVER (AP) – Another court fight may be playing out on contraception and religion, ahead of next year’s presidential election. A group of nuns in Colorado is planning to go to the Supreme Court to appeal a ruling that lets their employees get birth control from a third party under the Affordable Care Act. The nuns say it violates their religious freedom.

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) – An Oklahoma state medical examiner has arrived at a Tulsa-area home where five members of a family were found stabbed to death. Police responding to a wordless 911 call found the bodies, in addition to a 13-year-old girl with stab wounds and a 2-year-old girl who was uninjured. The 13-year-old girl is hospitalized in stable but serious condition. Two male teenagers are in custody. Police say they and the victims are related.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi Highway Patrol investigators are trying to find people who might have been involved in a road dispute just before a crash that killed a black supporter of the Confederate flag. Authorities say Anthony Hervey died Sunday when he swerved a Ford Explorer off a north Mississippi highway. The vehicle landed upside down. A passenger says just before the wreck, Hervey sped up to avoid a silver car carrying four or five black men who appeared angry at him. But investigators say another witness couldn’t confirm that another car was involved.

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Animal control officials in Milwaukee say residents might be “amped up or afraid” because of reports that a lion was seen wandering on the city’s north side. Police say a man who thought he spotted the lion shot and wounded an animal that turned out to be a large pit bull dog. The dog suffered a gunshot wound to a leg and is being treated.

CSi Weather… SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 100 AM CDT . . . NORTH DAKOTA COUNTIES INCLUDED ARE BARNES DICKEY LAMOURE STUTSMAN Forecast… .THURSDAY NIGHT…SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY.
