Jamestown (CSI) The City of Jamestown experienced some power outages Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Ottertail Power\u2019s Jeff Hoff says the power outage was from 7:51 a.m., to 8:51 a.m., and was caused by an underground fault in the area of the post office, and Bank Forward in Downtown Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The circuit was rerouted as Otter Tail crews repair the underground fault.<\/p>\n

The power outage included an area from the railroad tracks south to 10th St SE, from approximately 2 Av SW to 4 Av SE, including downtown businesses.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown City Fire Department\u2019s Ready Squad was responding to fire alarms that were triggered by the outage, and resetting, including one report at the James House.<\/p>\n

Police Thursday morning was directing traffic, including 10th Street Southeast until power was restored. Signal lights were off at Cashwise, Hardee\u2019s, other in the downtonwn area. The street department had put up temporary stop-signs at some intersections.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Regional Airport Authority Board Chairman, Jim Boyd is expressing the board\u2019s congratulations to First Class Aviation<\/a> and owner, Jon Cave, on expanding services at Jamestown Regional Airport.<\/p>\n

He says the additional services include: Full aircraft maintenance capability, aircraft rentals, and a ground\/flight school for pilot training. First Class Aviation has also expanded into another hangar, previously, Jamestown Aviation, to house the new services.<\/p>\n

Boyd goes on to says that having a full-time mechanic on duty for annual maintenance, is a very welcome service to the airport, the ground school\/pilot training is of particular interest as it fits perfectly into the airport\u2019s strategic plan of working with the Jamestown Public Schools and the University of Jamestown to add Aviation I & II classes to the curriculum as part of a North Dakota Aeronautics Commission sponsored Aviation Program. First Class Aviation will not only have the instructor, but also the available aircraft for training new pilots.<\/p>\n

Boyd adds, that the expansion Of First Class Aviation provides the valuable tools for future growth, while meeting community needs.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Let\u2019s Walk Valley City, Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., plans to offer fun activities for all ages.<\/p>\n

The event will introduce participants to the walking paths and new people in Valley City.<\/p>\n

The Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership says the free event, stems in part from receiving a $3000 grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Rural “Official Sponsor of Recess” Program to sponsor the Let\u2019s Walk Valley City event.<\/p>\n

City-County Health District applied for the grant on behalf of the Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership and Young People\u2019s Healthy Heart Program at CHI Mercy Health will be managing the event.<\/p>\n

The event on the north side of Jefferson Elementary or at Pioneer Park, will have games, activities, healthy snacks, prizes (including a Fit Bit) and free giveaways. Try yoga with Janice Berg from “Find the Balance” studio, taste delicious fruit and yogurt parfaits prepared by VCSU nursing students or draw with sidewalk chalk and blow bubbles with Circle of Friends preschool staff, and more.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the BCBSND Official Sponsor of Recess Grant Program is to serve and show benefit to rural North Dakotans and their health needs, and raise awareness for the need for all ages to engage in more daily, physical activity and overall wellness.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s doctor licensing board has suspended the license of a University of North Dakota medical department chairman who’s facing a child pornography crime.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fifty-five-year-old Dr. Robert Beattie has a right to a hearing on the action Tuesday by the state Board of Medical Examiners.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beattie is chairman of UND’s Family and Community Medicine Department. He’s accused of possessing hundreds of videos and images of child porn on a thumb drive seized from his office computer. He could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The Federal Aviation Administration has approved an expansion of unmanned aircraft system testing in North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota is home to one of six drone test sites in the U.S. and also is building the nation’s first unmanned aircraft systems business park, at Grand Forks Air Force Base.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials with the Northern Plains UAS Test Site and the FAA say night testing of drones will now be allowed. The entire state also is now available for testing at altitudes higher than 200 feet.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Majority leaders in North Dakota’s House and Senate say the state’s oil savings account is safe from attack in the next Legislature.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Senate majority leader Rich Wardner and House majority leader Al Carlson spoke to The Associated Press before legislative leaders met to debate voters’ intent when they changed the constitution to sock away some of the state’s newfound oil wealth.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 None of the money from the state’s Legacy Fund can be spent until 2017, and only then if the Legislature decides by a two-thirds vote to dip into it. But Increasingly there’s been talk of smashing the state’s piggy bank that was once thought to be near impenetrable.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wardner and Carlson say that won’t happen. Republicans hold a two-thirds majority in both houses of the Legislature.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The latest estimates from the federal Agriculture Department predict a bigger spring wheat and durum crop in North Dakota this year.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Spring wheat production is forecast at 298 million bushels, up 2 percent from 2014. Durum wheat production is pegged at 38.5 million bushels, up 36 percent from last year.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Winter wheat is forecast to be down 56 percent, but it’s not a major crop in North Dakota at 12 million bushels.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Production of soybeans and alfalfa hay also is expected to be down in the state. But production increases are forecast for barley, oats, corn, dry beans and sugar beets.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – The U.S. Postal Service plans to move and expand the post office in Watford City.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Sens. John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp say the project is aimed at better meeting the needs of the growing oil patch city.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A site for the new post office and a timeline for the move haven’t yet been determined.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Postal Service has struggled to keep up with tremendous growth in oil patch communities in recent years, and residents have complained about long lines and late deliveries.

\"ShipleyJake\"<\/a>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The University of Jamestown head men’s basketball coach Danny Neville announced the hiring of Jake Shipley as the lead assistant for the men’s basketball team.<\/p>\n

Shipley spent last season at Dakota Wesleyan as a graduate assistant coach. The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers finished the season 32-5, with a runner up finish at the National Tournament in Branson, MO.<\/p>\n

“I am excited about the opportunity Coach Neville has given to me,” Shipley commented, “To be a full time coach is something I’ve always seen myself doing.\u3000 I look forward to the opportunity and challenge of continuing the success of the Jimmie basketball program.”<\/p>\n

In college Shipley played basketball at Briar Cliff University,\u3000a GPAC institution, from 2010 to 2013 after graduating from\u3000West Marshall High School in State Center, Iowa.\u3000While playing with the Chargers, Shipley earned GPAC All-Conference\u3000First-Team honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and\u3000was named GPAC Player-of-the-Year in 2012. He was named\u3000an NAIA All-American First-Team member in 2012 and an\u3000honorable mention in 2013.<\/p>\n

“Jake is a great basketball mind,” says Neville. “He\u2019s always been around great programs, which was very important. I\u2019m excited to add Jake to our staff, he will be a great benefit to the program.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0DURANGO, Colo. (AP) – Sampling results from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency show high levels of toxic heavy metals in river water following last week’s spill at a Colorado mine. The federal agency released its testing data Thursday following increasing public pressure. The test results show water samples taken from the Animas River near Silverton, Colorado, in the hours after the spill contained lead levels more than 200 times the acute exposure limit for aquatic life and more than 3,500 times the limit for human ingestion.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TIANJIN, China (AP) – A port company says dozens of its employees are unaccounted for in the aftermath of the fiery explosions at a warehouse of hazardous chemicals in a Chinese port city. The company says a search is under way. The official death toll stands at 50, with more than 700 injured. The explosions shortly before midnight Wednesday night demolished a workers’ dormitory, and tossed shipping containers as if they were toy blocks.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Eleven men who have been on Connecticut’s death row have had their lives spared by a decision from the state Supreme Court. The justices said it would be unconstitutional to execute them. The ruling comes three years after Connecticut abolished the death penalty for any future crimes. In a 4-to-3 ruling, the state’s high court said the death penalty “no longer comports with contemporary standards of decency.”

When he got around to politics, the Republican presidential hopeful spoke about his experience in office, his plans to create jobs and his opposition to abortion.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Food banks nationwide are dealing with rising demand despite the growing economy, leading some charities to reduce the amount they offer each family. U.S. food banks are expected to give away about 4 billion pounds of food this year. Feeding America, the nation’s primary food bank network, says that’s more than double the amount provided a decade ago. Some economists say the increased demand is surprising because the economy is growing and unemployment has been cut nearly in half since the recession. But many people who have found jobs are working only part-time or for low wages, and others have stopped looking for work.
