Jamestown (CSI) The City of Jamestown experienced some power outages Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Ottertail Power\u2019s Jeff Hoff says the power outage was from 7:51 a.m., to 8:51 a.m., and was caused by an underground fault in the area of the post office, and Bank Forward in Downtown Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The circuit was rerouted as Otter Tail crews repair the underground fault.<\/p>\n

The power outage included an area from the railroad tracks south to 10th St SE, from approximately 2 Av SW to 4 Av SE, including downtown businesses.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown City Fire Department\u2019s Ready Squad was responding to fire alarms that were triggered by the outage, and resetting, including one report at the James House.<\/p>\n

Police Thursday morning was directing traffic, including 10th Street Southeast until power was restored. Signal lights were off at Cashwise, Hardee\u2019s, other in the downtonwn area. The street department had put up temporary stop-signs at some intersections.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Regional Airport Authority Board Chairman, Jim Boyd is expressing the board\u2019s congratulations to First Class Aviation and owner, Jon Cave, on expanding services at Jamestown Regional Airport.<\/p>\n

He says the additional services include: Full aircraft maintenance capability, aircraft rentals, and a ground\/flight school for pilot training. First Class Aviation has also expanded into another hangar, previously, Jamestown Aviation, to house the new services.<\/p>\n

Boyd goes on to says that having a full-time mechanic on duty for annual maintenance, is a very welcome service to the airport, the ground school\/pilot training is of particular interest as it fits perfectly into the airport\u2019s strategic plan of working with the Jamestown Public Schools and the University of Jamestown to add Aviation I & II classes to the curriculum as part of a North Dakota Aeronautics Commission sponsored Aviation Program. First Class Aviation will not only have the instructor, but also the available aircraft for training new pilots.<\/p>\n

Boyd adds, that the expansion Of First Class Aviation provides the valuable tools for future growth, while meeting community needs.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Frontier Village Association Board of Directors at its Thursday meeting listened to concerns of a board member and manager regarding friction with Jamestown Tourism concerning Pioneer Days posters.<\/p>\n

FVA Board member Tina Busche said that Jamestown Tourism Executive Director Searle Swedlund was threatening in his dialogue with FVA Manager Nichole Mosolf.<\/p>\n

Busche alleges that Swedlund became upset that Pioneer Days event flyers were not poster size and said he wanted to withhold funding for them.<\/p>\n

Swedlund then spoke to Mosolf, who is also Busche\u2019s daughter, about how FVA operations should be conducted.<\/p>\n

Swedlund says the words were cautionary statements of fact and not meant to be threatening, He says that with non-compliance to funding guidelines there are consequences but did not elaborate.<\/p>\n

FVA Board member Nellie Degen recommended the board send a courtesy letter to Jamestown Tourism, the mayor\u2019s office and the Jamestown City Council to request a direct response to the board with any concerns about the FVA.<\/p>\n

In other business, the FVA Board<\/p>\n

Approved $5,917 to S&R Quality Construction to put a new roof on Mary\u2019s building.<\/p>\n

Approved $5,606 to S&R to put a new roof on the General Store.<\/p>\n

Deferred approval on the Village Trader building, and Town Hall roof until it was determined if shingles or a metal alternative was preferable.<\/p>\n

Approved $150 for Internet installation and a 6-month annual contract for the FVA manager.<\/p>\n

Approved $550 for a new pony after one floundered and had to be put down.<\/p>\n

Approved $2,000 for former Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome seats from Albrecht Sign.<\/p>\n

Approved separate motions to start on three grant applications totaling $36,500 for general use, archiving tools and building repairs.<\/p>\n

Approved further investigation into the Trader building and whether to make temporary or permanent repairs or replace the structure.<\/p>\n

Approved replacing the Tac building.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Let\u2019s Walk Valley City, Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., plans to offer fun activities for all ages.<\/p>\n

The event will introduce participants to the walking paths and new people in Valley City.<\/p>\n

The Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership says the free event, stems in part from receiving a $3000 grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Rural “Official Sponsor of Recess” Program to sponsor the Let\u2019s Walk Valley City event.<\/p>\n

City-County Health District applied for the grant on behalf of the Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership and Young People\u2019s Healthy Heart Program at CHI Mercy Health will be managing the event.<\/p>\n

The event on the north side of Jefferson Elementary or at Pioneer Park, will have games, activities, healthy snacks, prizes (including a Fit Bit) and free giveaways. Try yoga with Janice Berg from “Find the Balance” studio, taste delicious fruit and yogurt parfaits prepared by VCSU nursing students or draw with sidewalk chalk and blow bubbles with Circle of Friends preschool staff, and more.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the BCBSND Official Sponsor of Recess Grant Program is to serve and show benefit to rural North Dakotans and their health needs, and raise awareness for the need for all ages to engage in more daily, physical activity and overall wellness.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. — Photographs of a robber caught on camera in two bank holdups Thursday in northern North Dakota apparently match, leaving law officers to search for the lone suspect.<\/p>\n

The first robbery occurred in Stanley along U.S. Highway 2 at the BNC National Bank at 10:12 a.m.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, about 55 miles to the east in Minot, the same man apparently robbed the Dacotah Bank at 1121 South Broadway in Minot about 3:10 p.m.<\/p>\n

Police departments are working with the FBI on the robberies.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck man is accused of firing a shotgun into the ceiling of his apartment, nearly striking a woman who was lying in bed in the apartment above.<\/p>\n

Thirty-four-year-old Jeffery Royce Jr. faces a felony reckless endangerment charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Court documents indicate he is applying for a public defender.<\/p>\n

The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday. A judge on Thursday set bond at $5,000 cash.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of one of two men accused of conspiring to murder a South Dakota man in North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0 Justices ruled there was enough evidence to support the guilty verdict against Joshua Clark.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Clark is serving life in prison for his role in the spring 2013 killing of 18-year-old John Swain, who had moved to Bismarck from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in search of work. Clark’s co-defendant, Theo Crowe, also is serving life behind bars.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Clark and Crowe lured Swain into a Bismarck home, hit him with a hammer, cut off his legs and buried the body in Montana.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Clark’s attorney had argued there was no evidence Clark and Crow plotted a murder. Justices rejected that argument.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A second trial has been scheduled for a Fargo man accused of killing his roommate.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first trial for 25-year-old Christopher Hampton ended in a mistrial in late July when the jury could not come to a unanimous decision. He is to be retried beginning Sept. 15.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hampton has pleaded not guilty to murder in the June 2014 death of 28-year-old Randall Doehner, his cousin.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hampton said he suspected his cousin of trying to poison him. Medical tests found no poison but did find drugs in Hampton’s system.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A pathologist said evidence indicated Doehner was shot in the back and the head from more than 2 feet away.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Majority leaders in North Dakota’s House and Senate say the state’s oil savings account is safe from attack in the next Legislature.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Senate majority leader Rich Wardner and House majority leader Al Carlson spoke to The Associated Press before legislative leaders met to debate voters’ intent when they changed the constitution to sock away some of the state’s newfound oil wealth.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 None of the money from the state’s Legacy Fund can be spent until 2017, and only then if the Legislature decides by a two-thirds vote to dip into it. But Increasingly there’s been talk of smashing the state’s piggy bank that was once thought to be near impenetrable.

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The Federal Aviation Administration has approved an expansion of unmanned aircraft system testing in North Dakota. North Dakota is home to one of six drone test sites in the U.S. and also is building the nation’s first unmanned aircraft systems business park. Officials with the Northern Plains UAS Test Site and the FAA say night testing of drones will now be allowed.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The latest estimates from the federal Agriculture Department predict a bigger spring wheat and durum crop in North Dakota this year. Winter wheat is forecast to be down 56 percent, but it’s not a major crop in North Dakota at 12 million bushels. Production of soybeans and alfalfa hay also is expected to be down in the state. But production increases are forecast for barley, oats, corn, dry beans and sugar beets.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A state-funded program that aims to turn research on North Dakota college campuses into jobs has awarded grants totaling about $650,000 to North Dakota State University.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Centers of Excellence Commission awarded a $357,000 grant to the school and a partnering company called Elbit Systems of America to collect crop data using various technologies from unmanned aircraft.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The school’s department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in partnership with Cyclops Technologies was awarded $291,000 to develop miniature radar sensors to detect motions through building walls. The aim is to attach the devices to unmanned aircraft used by law enforcement and search and rescue teams.

\u00a0WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – The U.S. Postal Service plans to move and expand the post office in Watford City.

Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown head men’s basketball coach Danny Neville announced the hiring of Jake Shipley as the lead assistant for the men’s basketball team.<\/p>\n

Shipley spent last season at Dakota Wesleyan as a graduate assistant coach. The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers finished the season 32-5, with a runner up finish at the National Tournament in Branson, MO.<\/p>\n

Shipley commented,”I am excited about the opportunity Coach Neville has given to me. To be a full time coach is something I’ve always seen myself doing.\u3000 I look forward to the opportunity and challenge of continuing the success of the Jimmie basketball program.”<\/p>\n

In college Shipley played basketball at Briar Cliff University,\u3000a GPAC institution, from 2010 to 2013 after graduating from\u3000West Marshall High School in State Center, Iowa.\u3000While playing with the Chargers, Shipley earned GPAC All-Conference\u3000First-Team honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and\u3000was named GPAC Player-of-the-Year in 2012. He was named\u3000an NAIA All-American First-Team member in 2012 and an\u3000honorable mention in 2013.<\/p>\n

Coach Neville, says, “Jake is a great basketball mind. He\u2019s always been around great programs, which was very important. I\u2019m excited to add Jake to our staff, he will be a great benefit to the program.”<\/p>\n

Left-hander Tommy Milone will be reinstated from the disabled list and start Sunday against Cleveland. Rookie right-hander Tyler Duffey will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester and start Saturday against the Indians. KNOXVILLE, Iowa (AP) – Sprint car driver Kevin Swindell was airlifted to a hospital after his car flipped at the start of a heat race at the Knoxville Nationals.<\/p>\n

Swindell’s wife and father said in a statement late Thursday that he is undergoing treatment and tests at Des Moines Mercy Hospital. They did not describe the nature of his injuries.<\/p>\n

They thanked the Knoxville Raceway safety team for their quick response and the support of the racing community.<\/p>\n

Swindell’s car flipped, hit an outside wall and landed on its wheels at the World of Outlaws event Thursday.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old Swindell, from Germantown, Tennessee, is the son of sprint car great Sammy Swindell. The younger Swindell also races stock cars, winning twice in the ARCA Racing Series and competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.<\/p>\n
