Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi) Fogging operations in the City of Jamestown for adult mosquitoes is scheduled to begin tonight, Wednesday, September 9, 2015<\/span> and will continue throughout the weekend<\/span>.<\/p>\n

All fogging operations are contingent upon weather conditions. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

All fogging operations will take place between approximately 8:30 PM (dusk) until approximately 6:00 AM.<\/p>\n

Parents are advised to keep children out of the streets and away from the fogging machines.<\/p>\n

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the fogging units.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) A send-off event for Mrs. North Dakota, America, Christine Jorissen, of Jamestown, will be held on September 17, 2015, from 6:30-p.m., to 8:30-p.m., at Grizzly\u2019s Wood-Fired Grill in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Christine has become Mrs. North Dakota America for 2015 replacing Hope Adam, the 2015 Mrs. South Fargo, who has stepped down.<\/p>\n

As Mrs. North Dakota Jamestown she was the first runner-up at the May 2015 pageant, held in Jamestown and has assumed the title and represents the State of North Dakota in 2015.<\/p>\n

Christine will represent North Dakota as the State Delegate at the 2015 Mrs. America Pageant, scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 20 -24, 2015.<\/p>\n

A www.gofundme.com<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>page has been established for Christine.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, she pointed out that as the new State Delegate, she\u2019s eligible for the Fabulous Face Contest being conducted on the Mrs. America website. Her platform is related to an eye health problem diagnosed as a child, which has become the subject her work as Mrs. North Dakota America. As a certified optician and member of the American Board of Opticianry, her pageant platform is “A 20\/20 Future.”<\/p>\n

Her self-esteem suffered until doctors spotted the problem and fit her with corrective lenses.<\/p>\n

She went from not seeing anything further than inches away from her face to seeing the world around her. She had never known anything other than a blur.<\/p>\n

Christine said she that she will spend her year educating teachers and parents about preventing blindness and raising awareness of the importance to get annual eye health examinations.<\/p>\n

As reported previously second runner-up, Shannon Smith-Eidson, Fargo, has assumed the role and responsibilities of the first runner-up. As the first runner-up, Shannon may now compete in a contest for the First-Runner-ups from every state to compete for the title of Mrs. National First Runner Up.<\/p>\n

The winner of that contest will secure a spot at the Mrs. America Pageant to compete along with the State Delegates for the title of Mrs. America 2016 in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Let\u2019s Walk Valley City, Saturday, September 12<\/strong>, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., plans to offer fun activities for all ages.<\/p>\n

The event will introduce participants to the walking paths and new people in Valley City.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Sharon Buhr, a Licensed Dietician and Director of the Young People\u2019s Healthy Heart Program at CHI Mercy Health in Valley City, said the Barnes “ON THE MOVE” Partnership enables the free event, and stems in part from receiving a $3000 grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Rural “Official Sponsor of Recess” Program to sponsor the Let\u2019s Walk Valley City event.<\/p>\n

City-County Health District applied for the grant on behalf of the Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership and Young People\u2019s Healthy Heart Program at CHI Mercy Health will be managing the event.<\/p>\n

The event on the north side of Jefferson Elementary or at Pioneer Park, will have games, activities, healthy snacks, prizes (including a Fit Bit) and free giveaways. Try yoga with Janice Berg from “Find the Balance” studio, taste delicious fruit and yogurt parfaits prepared by VCSU nursing students or draw with sidewalk chalk and blow bubbles with Circle of Friends preschool staff, and more.<\/p>\n

A booth will feature Girl Scout registration, garden veggie samples to taste, ambulance tours, foster pets and much more<\/p>\n

The event will take place on the paths that go around the one mile Jefferson School loop which includes Central Avenue, 12th<\/sup> Street NE, 5th<\/sup> Ave. NE and the brand new path on 9th<\/sup> Street NE. It will include the stretch from the corner by Jefferson School on 12th<\/sup> St. NE going west until 9th<\/sup> Ave. NW then south on 9th<\/sup> Ave until you reach Pioneer Park. The event will also take place on the quarter mile path that runs through Pioneer Park.<\/p>\n

If participants walk the entire route they will be walking 2.36 miles.<\/p>\n

Sign up at the registration booth at both locations and get a form. If stamped by at least 10 booth participants, you will be entered into a drawing for prizes donated by area businesses.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the BCBSND Official Sponsor of Recess Grant Program is to serve and show benefit to rural North Dakotans and their health needs, and raise awareness for the need for all ages to engage in more daily, physical activity and overall wellness.<\/p>\n

Director of Valley City Parks and Recreation Department, Tyler Jacobson says, “Our newly expanded multi use path system is great for transportation as well as exercise.”<\/p>\n

He adds, walking, biking, running, jogging and skateboarding are all great ways to get out and enjoy the paths. Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce the risks of developing many types of chronic disease such as hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and many forms of cancer.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority has accepted two project grants, from the Federal Aviation Administration.<\/p>\n

Airport Manager Sam Seafeldt says the grants that will cover 90 percent of the engineering phases for a $37,000 runway taxi lane reconstruction and a $120,000 wetland reduction project that were previously approved by the Jamestown Regional Airport Authority.<\/p>\n

When the $65,000 funding request from the county to cover the airport\u2019s portion of the construction phase is secured, the FAA will release $263,000 to complete the taxi lane and $1.3 million to complete the wetlands project.<\/p>\n

Both projects also received 5 percent funding from the North Dakota Aeronautics Association.<\/p>\n

The wetlands mitigation project drains 21.5 acres of wetland just northeast of the airport, reducing the likelihood of wildlife becoming attracted to the area around the airport, an FAA priority project. As part of the mitigation costs the airport will purchase other wetland-protected areas.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says she won’t run for North Dakota governor, a setback for Democrats’ hopes of claiming the state’s top office.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heitkamp said Wednesday she wouldn’t seek the seat being vacated by Republican Jack Dalrymple, who isn’t seeking re-election. Heitkamp, in a call-in to her brother Joel’s radio show on KFGO-AM, said it wasn’t the right time.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heitkamp’s decision leaves her party scrambling for a top candidate. The 59-year-old is a rare Democrat who has been successful in recent years in conservative North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But Heitkamp’s decision is good news for national Democrats. If she had left the Senate to run, it could have complicated Democrats’ chances of retaking the U.S. Senate in 2016.<\/p>\n

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say the regional airport in Dickinson has been temporarily shut down after an aircraft landed carrying a suspicious bag making a beeping noise.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials said Wednesday that the Stark County Sheriff’s Department secured the aircraft, and the passengers were interviewed.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Stark County Department of Emergency Services says the sheriff’s department is waiting for the Bismarck Bomb Squad to investigate the aircraft.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The office said Wednesday that the winner is a resident of Williston who chose to remain anonymous. The office says the winner has no immediate plans for the prize.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit in June of 2014 on behalf of Jan Jorgensen and Cindy Phillips, who live in Fargo. The couple married in Minnesota and sued the state because it wouldn’t recognize their marriage.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The group and the Minneapolis-based Faegre Baker Daniels law firm have asked a federal judge to award a total of $124,000 to 10 attorneys who worked on the case.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Last month, North Dakota settled with attorneys who represented seven same-sex couples who sued the state and agreed to pay $58,000 in legal fees and costs.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – The Kansas owner of a dinosaur skull found in 2012 in South Dakota field says the fossil is thought to be a new species and genus of the ceratopsian.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the ceratopsian is a family of dinosaur that lived mostly during the Cretaceous Period and includes the triceratops.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A professional fossil hunter from Buffalo, South Dakota, discovered the skull that was later purchased by Lawrence artist Alan Dietrich.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dietrich says the skull is “extraordinary” because of the placement of its 17-inch nose horn, plus other unique characteristics. He says he might display it at the Denver Coliseum Mineral, Fossil and Gem Show scheduled for mid-September.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Data tallied from July and August counts show sharp-tailed grouse numbers are down 4 percent from last year, with the number of broods up 6 percent. The average brood size is down 15 percent.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The statewide Hungarian partridge population is up 22 percent from last year, and the number of broods is up 34 percent. The average brood size is down 14 percent.

\u00a0WASHINGTON (AP) – Officials say the United States is prepared to increase the number of refugees it resettles by 5,000 next year. That word comes as European countries struggle to accommodate tens of thousands of refugees from the Middle East and Africa. The officials say Secretary of State John Kerry told members of Congress in a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill that the United States will boost its worldwide quota for resettling refugees from 70,000 to 75,000 next year. A fraction of those refugees would be from Syria.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BRUSSELS (AP) – The European Union is urging its member countries to do more to share the burden of refugees flooding into the continent.
