{"id":831,"date":"2012-07-18T15:24:11","date_gmt":"2012-07-18T20:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=831"},"modified":"2012-07-19T15:27:21","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T20:27:21","slug":"mary-ann-backer-july-18-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=831","title":{"rendered":"Mary Ann Backer &#8211; July 18, 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mary Ann Backer, 93, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mary Ann Etter was born January 8, 1919, in Wimbledon, ND, the daughter of Fred and Anna Mae (Caroll) Etter.\u00a0 She grew up on the family farm near Wimbledon and graduated from St. Catherine\u2019s High School, Valley City in 1938.\u00a0 Mary Ann lived in Chicago where she received her nurses training and was a nanny.\u00a0 She returned to Wimbledon to work for the local doctor.\u00a0 On February 14, 1941, Mary Ann married John Backer at St. Boniface in Wimbledon.\u00a0 They settled on the Backer family farm until their retirement.\u00a0 Mary Ann and John would spend their winters in Arizona and summers on the farm. John died in 1994.\u00a0 Mary Ann moved to the Rock of Ages in 2003.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mary Ann was a member of St. Mary\u2019s Catholic Church, Courtenay, and St. Isador Circle.\u00a0 She was a charter member and founder of Corinne Homemakers and a 4-H leader.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">She enjoyed baking cakes, crocheting, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.\u00a0 Mary Ann will be remembered as a kind, wonderful person.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mary Ann is survived by her son, John (Monica) Backer, Courtenay; daughter, Ruth Ann Loucks, Renton, WA; 5 grandchildren, Susan Backer Miller, Jill Backer Sorber, David (Brenda) Loucks, Daniel (Kim) Loucks, and Dean Loucks; 9 great-grandchildren, Tait Miller, Kade Miller, Opal Sorber, Madison Loucks, Shannon Skalada, Tara Skalada, Danyelle Loucks, Hannah Loucks, and Kyle Loucks; 1 brother, Willis (Donna) Etter, Hysham, MT; and many nieces and nephews.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son; 2 grandsons, Wesley and Dale Loucks; and 1 sister, Mildred (Ray) Nelson.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>Eucharist of Christian Burial:<\/strong> 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>Prayer Service:<\/strong> 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>Interment:<\/strong> Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown after a luncheon at the church.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mary Ann Backer, 93, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
