Jamestown City Councilman Charlie Kourajian, says the reconstruction of the former garage at 119 2nd Avenue, Southeast on the property of First Congregational United Church of Christ should be finished by the end of October this year.<\/p>\n<p>Kourajian also a board member of Jamestown Bus Stop Inc., a nonprofit organization that was created to build a bus shelter and ticket office for Jefferson Lines, says, with $13,000 of the $20,000 construction budget goal met, work has started to convert the 23-by-19-foot garage into a depot.<\/p>\n<p>He adds, that there are still some grant applications available. If not enough dollars are on hand the organization will charge to its account and pay the rest as donations and grants are received.<\/p>\n<p>Kourajian sent out 160 letters to businesses around town to explain the project and asked for a $100 gift. The response was good but not strong.<\/p>\n<p>The only bus line to currently serve Jamestown is Jefferson Lines, which makes morning and afternoon stops to pick up and drop off riders on 1st Street West near Babb&#8217;s Coffee House.<\/p>\n<p>The new depot would be open from 90 minutes to two hours prior to and after daily scheduled bus arrivals.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson Lines will stop along 2nd Avenue Southeast, requiring riders to walk the approximately 80 feet to the street from the depot.<\/p>\n<p>The Jamestown City Council awarded $5,000 to the project in August to be used for bringing sewer, water and plumbing into the building along with installing and furnishing a restroom. The remaining budget includes $4,000 in electrical work, and $8,000 will go for walls and insulation, electrical heating and cooling, windows and shelving. The work is provided by volunteers with $3,000 going to professional services and supervision of laborers.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson Lines, hasn&#8217;t signed a formal contract, but did commit to the project by saying it would provide signage, a computer and ticketing machine with Internet service.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown Bus Stop Inc. will also serve as a ticket outlet and earn 10 percent from all sales.<\/p>\n<p>There is a three-year contract with the church. \u00a0Public parking is also available across the alley from the bus stop.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Strides for Change is an eight week indoor walking and exercise program, designed to instill a healthy life style in individuals in the community.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 the University of Jamestown\u2019s Foss Wellness Center Program Directorand Kinesiology Instructor, Madey Ranum said that the American Heart Association, Centers for Disease Control, &amp; American College of Sports Medicine has recommend a MINIMUM of 150 min. of moderate intensity aerobic exercise (ex: brisk walking) weekly to MAINTAIN health. John Hoeven and other state and community partners, Friday, to celebrate the start of construction on the 200-MW Courtenay Wind Farm project near Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>As the No. 1 wind utility provider for 11 consecutive years, Xcel Energy is dedicated to providing the state with reliable cost effective energy now and in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Clark, president, of Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota, an Xcel Energy Company, says, &#8220;When complete, the Courtenay Wind Farm will generate enough electricity to power 105,000 homes, making use of North Dakota\u2019s abundant renewable resource. Everyone, from landowner to lawmakers, worked together to make this a reality, and the end result benefits North Dakota, the surrounding community and our customers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The power plant will create about 200 construction jobs and 10 full-time jobs, while providing an estimated $850,000 in tax revenue. It will use 100 wind turbines on nearly 25,000 acres of property leased from more than 60 landowners.<\/p>\n<p>The Courtenay Wind Farm is expected to be operational by the end of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Clark adds, &#8220;This is just the start of tapping into one of the state\u2019s most valuable natural resources as Xcel Energy will continue to add wind to our system and invest in North Dakota.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Courtenay, construction is nearly complete on the company\u2019s 150 MW Border Winds Farm in Rolette County, N.D. After decades in the family, she said the Hilltop Cafe, like other businesses in smaller communities, was &#8220;not doing well&#8221; as other restaurants moved in and started competing.<\/p>\n<p>The cafe, which also is owned by Hagemeister&#8217;s two sons, Valley City resident Ronald King and Charleston resident Robert King, currently has six employees.<\/p>\n<p>She said the Petro Serve convenience store, which owns the building that includes the cafe, will remain open for business. Hagemeister says, Petro Serve is tentatively planning to tear down the existing building and build a new one next year, and may put in its own restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>A couple days after closing, Hilltop Cafe will hold an end-of-business sale 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to sell off its furniture, appliances, restaurant equipment and other items.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Kiwanis Club\u2019s &#8220;Kids\u2019 Against Hunger,&#8221; is about $12,000 shy of their fundraising goal with one week left, to purchase and pack nutritious meals for children.<\/p>\n<p>For the fifth year, the Kiwanis are raising funds, with the Food to be distributed locally and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s goal is $50,000, or, $10,000 more than last year.<\/p>\n<p>The group has until September 30th to raise additional funds for extra meals.<\/p>\n<p>Kiwanis is calling for 400 volunteers to help package more than 200,000 meals on November 14th at James River Family Fitness.<\/p>\n<p>The two shifts are: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. At prior events, volunteers attended in groups from churches, schools, service clubs and families including but not limited to Litchville-Marion, Devils Lake, Medina and Steele youth groups, church groups from St. Paul\u2019s United Methodist, Atonement Lutheran, Church of Latter Day Saints, Immanuel Lutheran and St. James Basilica as well as sports teams from the University of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Kids Against Hunger packages and sends meals consisting of vegetables, vitamins, rice and soy for starving children in the U.S. and abroad. Meal recipients need only to add water and boil the dried ingredients for 20 minutes. This FREE, fun event will be held Sunday, October 11<sup>th<\/sup> from 7:30 am \u2013 dark at the Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area on the Refuge. Come for an hour or so, or join us all day. The Refuge is located northeast of Pingree (off Highway 281) or southwest of Kensal (off Highway 9).<\/p>\n<p>The Big Sit! is an annual, international, non-competitive birding event hosted by Bird Watcher&#8217;s Digest and founded by the New Haven (CT) Bird Club. The Big Sit! is similar to a Big Day or a bird-a-thon in that the object is to tally as many bird species seen or heard within 24 hours from a 17-foot diameter circle. (AP) &#8211; A 31-year-old man was shot three times by a Fargo police officer after authorities say the suspect aimed a replica of a real gun with a laser pointer at the officer.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The incident began early Monday with the pursuit of a stolen car in Traill County. It culminated after 3 a.m. in a parking lot near a fast food restaurant in Fargo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Chief Dave Todd says the officer confronted the suspect outside of his squad car, and fired when the suspect pointed the weapon at him. It turned out to be a pellet gun.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The suspect was taken to a hospital for surgery. There was no immediate word on his condition. A female in the car was arrested.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The officer wasn&#8217;t immediately named. The state crime bureau will investigate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0HANKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a 13-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was run over during a hayride in Hankinson.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The accident happened Saturday afternoon during an Oktoberfest celebration in the southeastern North Dakota city.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol say the boy was on a flatbed trailer that was among two being pulled by a tractor going about 5 mph on the streets of Hankinson. The boy somehow fell off and was run over by the second trailer.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The boy was taken by ambulance part of the way and then airlifted to a hospital in Fargo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The two trailers were carrying about 25 riders. The 59-year-old who was driving the tractor was not hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A judge has restored a mentally impaired man&#8217;s assets by reversing transactions that authorities say he was forced into by his niece.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0Northwest District Judge Robin Schmidt has voided all document exchanges between Sandra Potter and her 85-year-old uncle Robert Gross that were dated after Jan. 1, 2013.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities this month filed exploitation charges against the 68-year-old Montana woman. She and Thomas Potter, Gross&#8217;s nephew, were accused a year ago of keeping Gross in deplorable living conditions and getting him to sign over oil well rights. Authorities later dropped the charges, but continued to investigate.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An oil well and land in Arizona are among the assets returned to Gross.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An arrest warrant has been issued for Sandra Potter. (AP) &#8211; A North Dakota man has been sentenced to six months in prison for dealing methamphetamine.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anthony Salas, of Watford City, pleaded guilty in February to a federal charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver meth.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Salas and another man distributed more than 50 grams of meth in 2013. The case originated in Nevada.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland ordered Salas to serve three years of supervised release after his prison term is completed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Members of a North Dakota National Guard unit who served 10 months overseas have been formally recognized for their service.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A Freedom Salute ceremony was held Sunday for the 15 soldiers with Fargo-based 231st Brigade Support Battalion Logistical Support Element.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The soldiers between last September and this past July managed supply, maintenance and transportation for units in the U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CENTCOM covers security and military issues in the central area of the globe and includes 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A $13 million communications and arts center at Bismarck State College meant to accommodate the school&#8217;s growing student population has officially opened.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state-of-the-art facility was funded through a $13 million appropriation from the state and more than $600,000 in donations and matching funds raised by the school.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple toured the facility earlier this month.
