During inclement weather, high-profile, long-load type, and permitted over-dimensional vehicles have restricted travel.<\/strong> North Dakota law restricts movement for these vehicles when wind or other conditions may cause the vehicle or attachment to swerve, whip, sway, or fail to follow in the path of the towing vehicle.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a Minnesota man was not injured when a semitrailer he was driving on the U.S. 52\/281 Bypass west of Jamestown about 9:25 p.m., Wednesday, \u00a0rolled into a ditch, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

28 year old George Hunnel,\u00a0of Rosemount, Minneota was driving a 2016 Volvo semi pulling an empty 53-foot trailer south on the bypass. After crossing a bridge, Hunnel felt a gust of wind push the trailer to the left. The patrol said the right side tires of the trailer lifted off the road surface and the semi trailer rolled into the east ditch.<\/p>\n

The patrol said winds at the time were steady at 47 miles per hour and gusting up to 57 mph.<\/p>\n

Hunnel wore a seat belt and was not injured.<\/p>\n

Damage to the semitrailer estimated at $75,000.<\/p>\n

Hunnel was cited for failing to use caution while driving in adverse weather conditions.<\/p>\n

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Freezing rain and snow passing through North Dakota accompanied by strong winds shut down highways and contributed to a triple-fatal crash.<\/p>\n

Transportation officials late Wednesday closed state Highways 20 and 57 from Camp Grafton to Fort Totten due to ice caused by strong winds washing waves from Devils Lake onto the roadway. The highway reopened shortly before dawn Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Highway Patrol says icy roads contributed to a U.S. Highway 83 crash near Wilton that killed three people. There were two school bus accidents in the Minot region, with a Westhope student suffering minor injuries. Bismarck police responded to 26 fender-benders. Minot police say wind and snow contributed to a head-on crash with injuries.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority Wednesday reviewed the passenger boardings.<\/p>\n

Airport Manager Sam Seafeldt said he didn’t have a projection for November but anticipates December passenger boardings to be the best of the year.<\/p>\n

Seafeldt said that SkyWest officials are anticipating December being the best month ever for SkyWest passenger boardings.<\/p>\n

July has been the best month for passenger boardings for SkyWest so far this year with 872. SkyWest Airlines contracts with United Express to provide two flights daily between Jamestown and Devils Lake and Denver International Airport under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Essential Air Service program.<\/p>\n

The current EAS agreement between SkyWest and the FAA for service to Jamestown and Devils Lake expires in 2016. Seafeldt said SkyWest officials said they are interested in bidding for the EAS contract beyond 2016. EAS contracts are two-year agreements.<\/p>\n

In other business, the Airport Authority authorized Chairman Jim Boyd and Seafeldt to sign a final farmland lease agreement with Reimers Land Legacy LLC to lease 835 acres of airport land for three years.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) he James River Valley Library System Board of Directors has unanimously approved a bookmobile bid.<\/p>\n

The proposal for the bookmobile is priced at $230,860 and is from OBS Inc., an Ohio company that designs and builds speciality vehicles. The board reviewed two other bids from Matthew sSpecialty Vehicles based in Greensboro, N.C., and LDV Inc. based in Burlington, Wis.<\/p>\n

The board had accepted a $243,000 bid from OBS Inc. but during a special meeting on October 5th, the board rejected the bid after library director, Joe Rector, discussed the bid further with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and an attorney. Rector said in October that the bid didn\u2019t include signed documentation necessary to finalize the proposal.<\/p>\n

There is a bookmobile fund where members of the community can contribute to the cost of the bookmobile.<\/p>\n

The board also unanimously approved a 4 percent pay raise for all JRVLS employees.<\/p>\n

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – The driver of a pickup truck that rolled over in January killing a passenger has been sentenced to one year in prison.<\/p>\n

Christopher Weller, of Dazey, will begin serving his sentence on Dec. 1. Weller earlier pleaded guilty to one count of negligent homicide.<\/p>\n

Weller was driving the pickup on Highway 26 when it went into a ditch, vaulted off an intersecting county road, rolled, and came to rest upside down. The 33-year-old Brent Siverson, of Casselton, was thrown from the pickup and died at the scene.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has said alcohol was a factor in the crash and neither man was wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police are searching for a suspect in a late-night robbery of a Fargo convenience store.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say a male entered the Phillips Travel Center shortly before midnight Wednesday, demanded money from a clerk and fled. Police say the robber had a weapon but didn’t specify what it was.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The clerk wasn’t hurt. Authorities did not release how much money was stolen.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police in Aberdeen, South Dakota, say a suspect in a credit card skimming investigation used the information he obtained from the credit cards to make numerous purchases in Fargo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The concealed skimming device was found Tuesday inside a gas pump at an Aberdeen convenience store.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Aberdeen Police Captain Eric Duven (DOO’-vin) says the compromised accounts were used in Fargo on Sunday. He says investigators are still gathering details on the number of businesses that were affected.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Duven says anyone who used a card to purchase gas in Aberdeen in the past two weeks should check their accounts for suspicious transactions. Police say more than 30 credit card accounts were compromised.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A head-on collision on U.S. Highway 83 killed two people from Underwood and injured a Bismarck man. The Highway Patrol says a car driven by a 36-year-old Underwood man crossed the median and into oncoming traffic about 6 p.m. Tuesday. The car crashed into a Jeep about 6 miles north of Bismarck. The man and a 29-year-old female passenger in the car died at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release their names.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A homicide victim in Bismarck was dating the estranged wife of the man believed to have killed him.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities suspect 35-year-old Kirk Kwasniewski of killing 30-year-old Caine Fischer, before later killing himself in Dunn County. No cause of death has been released for either man.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say Fischer was dating Kwasniewski’s wife, who had recently served divorced papers on him.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Bismarck Tribune reports that the woman was treated at a hospital Monday after being choked and punched by Kwasniewski.<\/p>\n

POMEROY, Iowa (AP) – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a death in northern Iowa.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Calhoun County Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that 48-year-old Freddy Crisp has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Dale Currie Potter, of Devil’s Lake, North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Potter was found dead in Pomeroy on November 10th with a gunshot wound. Additional information about his cause of death has not been released.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Crisp has been taken to the Sac County Jail. No bond has been established at this time. Court records do not list an attorney for Crisp.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Depressed crude prices and a drop in oil drilling have decreased North Dakota’s expected tax collections for the third consecutive month.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That’s spurring North Dakota budget writers to consider updating the state’s revenue forecast that was given to the Legislature in March.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Data from the state Office of Management and Budget show tax revenues in October fell almost $49 million short of projections. Most of the drop comes from weakened sales tax revenue, which provides the biggest share of the budget for North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Overall tax revenues are nearly $112 million, or 7.5 percent, less than projected for the two-year budget cycle that began on July 1. Revenues were up less than 1 percent in July but have decreased each month since.<\/p>\n

LAKOTA, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Transportation Department has installed a new type of warning light system at a highway intersection near Lakota to try to improve safety.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and state Highway 1 used to have overhead beacons that flashed continuously.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new system detects traffic on Highway 1 and triggers flashing beacons and “Watch for Entering Traffic” signs on Highway 2, to warn drivers of vehicles approaching or stopped at the intersection.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vehicles on Highway 2 have the right of way, while traffic on Highway 1 must stop and yield.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown football team put eight players on the All-North Star Athletic Association team.<\/p>\n

Three of those were named first team selections: Seniors, QB Beau Eriksson, WR Mike Sena, and LB Jarelle Miller.<\/p>\n

Eriksson and Sena leave the Jimmies holding all the major records for their position.<\/p>\n

Eriksson broke the school records for attempts, completions, yardage, total offense and passing touchdowns. He threw for over 6,600 yards and tallied 56 touchdowns in his career.<\/p>\n

Sena is the school record holder for catches, yardage, and touchdowns. He caught one pass in all 40 games of his career totaling 202 receptions.<\/p>\n

Five Jimmies were selected to the second team all-conference; Wes Worthen, Dan Janu, Andrew Kapaun, Jared Mack and Nate Milos.<\/p>\n

Of the eight selected only punter Milos returns in 2016.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) –\u00a0 University of North Dakota<\/a> backers have selected Fighting Hawks as the school’s new nickname.<\/span><\/p>\n

School officials announced the new name Wednesday. University of North Dakota students, staff and alums were eligible to vote.<\/p>\n

UND has been without a nickname since 2012, when the state retired the Fighting Sioux moniker after the NCAA deemed it “hostile and abusive.”<\/p>\n

A committee considered about 1,200 nickname ideas that were approved by a consultant after a monthlong campaign to solicit suggestions from the public. The group gradually whittled down the list to 15, then seven, and then the final five: Fighting Hawks; Roughriders; Nodaks; Sundogs; and North Stars.<\/p>\n

Total votes: 27,378<\/p>\n

Fighting Hawks: 15,670 votes (57.24 percent)
\nRoughriders: 11,708 votes (42.76 percent)<\/p>\n
