THEREAFTER&#8230;EARLY NEXT WEEK&#8230; CONTINUED ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) The North Dakota Bureau of Investigation, the Barnes County State\u2019s Attorney, and the City Attorney found no criminal conduct or violation of procedural rules against Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation stemmed from in an October 3, 2015 incident in Valley City, when Thompson drew his firearm and pointed it at a man who was pointing an Airsoft rifle at children in Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the BCI investigation show that Chief Thompson used his training and experience to neutralize an unknown threat, making sure everyone was safe.<\/p>\n<p>In the report Thompson saw a man behind a tree pointing what appeared to be an assault weapon at some children. He drew his service weapon and ordered the individual to drop the weapon. It was later determine that the weapon was an Airsoft rifle which resembled an assault rifle.<\/p>\n<p>Airsoft rifles and pistols have orange tips to indicate they are toys.<\/p>\n<p>There have been several incidents across the United States which resulted in police wounding or killing individuals possessing airsoft weapons because either the police did not see the orange tips, the tips were painted black, or orange tips had been placed on real firearms. Because these ambiguities occur, a law enforcement officer must assume the worst to ensure a safe resolution to any situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Everything from a penny to $500,000 has been dropped into a Salvation Army red kettle this holiday season and thanks to a donation in Jamestown, you can add a gold coin to that list.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 American Eagle one-half ounce gold proof coin retails for $720 at the United States mint, while the current price for gold is around $500 per half ounce. The story should air locally at 6 p.m. Sunday on CBS.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Andrew Sadek, a 20-year-old student at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, was a drug informant before he went missing in May 2014. About two months later, his body was found in the Red River near Wahpeton with a gunshot to his head.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>His parents, who live in Rogers, have said they believe their son was murdered, possibly because of his work as an informant. However, autopsy results offered no conclusion on whether someone killed him or whether he killed himself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Highway Patrol has identified a Minot man who died in a three-vehicle crash near Mandaree. Thirty-six-year-old Phillip Taggart was driving a pickup truck that the patrol says was struck by a pickup that failed to yield at the intersection of state Highways 22 and 73 on Tuesday morning. He died at the scene. After the initial wreck, a semitrailer crashed into the pickup that failed to yield.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say they&#8217;ve issued an arrest warrant in Sunday&#8217;s killing of a 30-year-old Minot man.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Capt. John Klug with the Minot Police Department says 25-year-old Johnny C. Norwood Jr. is being sought on charges of murder, attempted murder using a firearm and reckless endangerment. Court records did not list an attorney for Norwood.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the shooting happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday. They say a caller reported multiple gunshots in an alley, and officers arrived to find two victims with gunshot wounds.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Roger Falana, who had been living in Minot but was originally from Florida, was killed. A 43-year-old woman who has not been named was treated for injuries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An appeals court has rejected an appeal of a Canadian man convicted in federal court in North Dakota for what authorities called high-tech bank robbery.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Adekunle Adetiloye (aw-duh-KUHN-lee aw-duh-tuh-LOH&#8217;-ee) pleaded guilty in 2012 to mail fraud and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Authorities say he stole the identities of about 38,000 people to bilk dozens of banks in one of the largest credit card frauds in U.S. history.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in rejected Adetiloye&#8217;s claim that he was illegally extradited and the federal government did not have jurisdiction of the case.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say Adetiloye was the leader of an international scheme that involved fake debt-collection agencies.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The case wound up in North Dakota because U.S. Bank, one of the victims, is based in Fargo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) &#8211; About 800 bison are being auctioned Saturday on a ranch in south central North Dakota, in one of the biggest such sales in the country this year.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0 Bev and Ernie Fischer are holding the auction at their ranch 35 miles south of Mandan. They&#8217;re downsizing their herd to 200 choice breeding animals.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sale comes during a time of what North Dakota Buffalo Association director Kevin Leier calls &#8220;unbelievable demand&#8221; for bison. CEO David Berg says the company can weather the decision by Hershey Co. to buy only non-GMO cane sugar, but he is worried that more companies will follow suit. (AP) &#8211; The Bismarck Event Center is hosting a Pride of Dakota Holiday Showcase this weekend.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says more than 200 companies are expected to showcase their products Friday through Sunday. He says it&#8217;s a great opportunity for people to do holiday shopping.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Admission is $2 per adult, and shoppers get a free reusable bag. Shoppers who bring their own reusable bag get in for $1, as do active and retired members of the military.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Retailers can get $1 off admission by showing their sales tax license at the door. Goehring says it&#8217;s an opportunity for retailers to try products from North Dakota businesses and establish wholesale orders.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More than 500 companies are members of the Agriculture Department&#8217;s Pride of Dakota branding program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) &#8211; Energy-producing states around the country are feeling the sting of lower prices for oil, natural gas and coal as they struggle to cover budget plans they made when they were flying high.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Many energy-producing states are dipping into their savings to cover state budgets established when energy prices were higher.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wyoming is the nation&#8217;s leading coal-producing state. Republican Governor Matt Mead says the state needs to brace for falling revenues as demand slips nationwide.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Alaska relies heavily on oil revenues. The state has been hit hard by low oil prices and currently faces an estimated budget gap of about $3.5 billion.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lawmakers in Oklahoma recently raided the state&#8217;s constitutional Rainy Day Fund for about $150 million to help cover its current budget.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) &#8211; Environmental groups are appealing a judge&#8217;s decision to suspend new rules for oil and gas drilling on federal land across the U.S. amid a legal challenge to those rules.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Sierra Club and others say the rules should be allowed to take effect to protect land and water from practices including hydraulic fracturing.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In September, U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl in Wyoming disagreed and blocked the rules from taking effect while the lawsuit contesting them moves ahead.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The environmental groups appealed Skavdahl&#8217;s decision Nov. 27 to the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The case itself remains before Skavdahl in Casper.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The plaintiffs are Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, North Dakota, the Ute Tribe and two petroleum industry groups. They say the rules would be too costly for industry and cause economic harm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BUFORD, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The National Park Service is soliciting public comment on what it calls a critical shortage of employee housing for the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Expanded Park Housing\/Utilities Plan and Environmental Assessment aims to address the shortage, increase the housing capacity of the park to an adequate number of bedrooms and upgrade the existing wastewater treatment system. It also looks to provide utility connections to proposed housing units and provide effluent connect to a proposed drain field site.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Park superintendent Andy Banta says the plan analyzes two action alternatives that focus on the immediate need for housing park employees.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The comment period runs through Jan. 11.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Nearly 200 people attended Thursday evening\u2019s informational meeting at the Jamestown Knights of Columbus Hall discussing a proposed shooting range in the Jamestown area.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the United Sportsmen of North Dakota Jamestown Chapter Shooting Range Committee, member Gene Van Eeckhout, is confident that gun and archery enthusiasts in the community can effectively organize and bring a shooting range back to Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was called to gauge interest in building a new shooting range and to recruit volunteers for organizational committees.<\/p>\n<p>The shooting range at Pipestem Dam was closed in July after stray bullets from the range struck an occupied home adjacent to the range. It wasn&#8217;t the first time that happened.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Martin ruled out any future use of land at Pipestem Dam for a shooting range, saying there was no other locations on the property that would meet the safety requirements for a shooting range.<\/p>\n<p>Curtis Kasemen said a shooting range must have a 2-mile downrange safety zone from the shooting range. While the club or organization owning the range would not have to own that property, it would have to work with county officials to create a special zoning district where houses could not be built.<\/p>\n<p>He said finding a location where there are no homes for at least 2 miles near Jamestown would be a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Kasemen called for volunteers for a number of committees. He hopes to see all sportsmen and conservation clubs in the region combine their efforts with the idea of creating a shooting facility with multiple ranges that can accommodate rifles, pistols, shotguns and archery.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota Game and Fish Department, Hunter Education Supervisor, John Mazur said state law requires land either be donated to conservation groups such as those that would operate the shooting range or be specifically approved by the North Dakota Legislature and governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>J<span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">amestown (CSi) <\/span>The University of Jamestown coaching staff has announced the signing of Jonathan Whitley, of Rocklege, Fla., who will join the Jimmies in the 2016 season.<\/p>\n<p>Whitley is a 6&#8242; 2&#8243;, 185 pound wide receiver from Merritt Island Christian School in Rockledge, FL.
