Jamestown (CSi) An early Thursday morning equipment failure caused a power outage in asection of Northeast Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Otter Tail Power\u2019s Chris Oehler says the power went off about 3:50 a.m., and was restored at 5:40-a.m.<\/p>\n

The equipment failure and fire on a power pole resulted in about 350 Jamestown residents without power.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) A number of animals recently rescued by groups in North Dakota brought from at Fort Yates, are available for adoption through Prairie Paws Rescue and the James River Humane Society in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Last Saturday, the organizations brought back 38 dogs that were divided among the groups which will try to find the animals permanent homes.<\/p>\n

Humane Society Dog Manager, Kris Meidinger says volunteers from rescue groups worked with law enforcement and wildlife officers gathering stray dogs from the streets.<\/p>\n

Meidinger adds that the pet rescue groups go to Fort Yates about four times per year.<\/p>\n

At Humane Society is “Molly”, an Australian shepherd mix and her five puppies. Molly and her pups were found outdoors under a deck and their owners relinquished them to the rescue groups.<\/p>\n

They also are looking for homes for “Princess”, “Foxy” and “Tia”, larger adult mixed-breed dogs.<\/p>\n

Prairie Paws Rescue\u2019s Kaye John points out that the organization is seeking homes for six mixed-breed dogs from Fort Yates.<\/p>\n

John says all the dogs gathered at Fort Yates in the past have been well socialized and friendly to people and other dogs.<\/p>\n

Also, Prairie Paws Rescue is seeking homes for a number of dogs from the Minot area in cooperation with a pet rescue organization, there.<\/p>\n

Pets available for adoption through Prairie Paws will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and each second Saturday of the month at the Tractor Supply Co. store on 5th<\/sup> Avenue, Southeast in Jamestown east of Park Plaza Mall.<\/p>\n

Bismarck (CSi) North Dakota State Hospital Governing Board members will meet Monday, Dec. 14, at 9 a.m., Central Time, in room 227 in the hospital\u2019s LRC – administration building, 2605 Circle Dr., in Jamestown. The public is welcome to attend.<\/p>\n

The agenda includes a final review of bylaws and regulations. State Hospital Superintendent Rosalie Etherington, Ph.D., will give a report. Board members will receive a financial report, the medical director\u2019s report, and reports on the hospital safety program, seclusion and restraint, and quality support services. Department of Human Services Executive Director Maggie Anderson will give a department report.<\/p>\n

Advisory board meeting attendees will also tour the new 15-bed expansion at the hospital\u2019s Tompkins Assessment and Rehabilitation Program, which provides substance addiction treatment services through a contract with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR). The State Hospital implemented the legislatively-authorized expansion from 90 to 105 beds on Dec. 1.<\/p>\n

In addition, the hospital has a Sex Offender Treatment and Assessment Program that provides inpatient evaluation and treatment services.<\/p>\n

\u00a0PETTIBONE, N.D. (AP) – Two anglers had to be rescued from a North Dakota lake when they couldn’t get back to shore after the ice heaved and melted away from the shoreline.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Game and Fish Department on Wednesday said the men were rescued Tuesday night from Round Lake near Pettibone. Wildlife and law enforcement officers used an airboat to reach the stranded anglers and transport them back to shore.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The department says district game warden Greg Hastings was notified of the incident around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and remained in contact by cellphone with the anglers until officers arrived to the lake about 9 p.m. The rescue lasted about 30 minutes.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Game and Fish enforcement chief Robert Timian says the incident is a “critical warning” that ice conditions can change throughout the day.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A state lawmaker from Bismarck who’s running for governor says he plans to introduce a bill in the 2017 Legislature to better protect confidential drug informants.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Republican Rep. Rick Becker tells The Associated Press he’s working with Tammy Sadek, whose son Andrew was working as an informant when he turned up dead in June 2014.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Andrew Sadek, a 20-year-old student at State College of Science, was working for a regional drug task force.
\n\u00a0

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officers located and arrested two suspects a short time later. The 23-year-old and 33-year-old man face felony charges including burglary, conspiracy and reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota high school has banned from its yearbook a photo of a student that shows him holding an assault-type weapon in front of an American flag.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo North High School Principal Andy Dahlen says the photo submitted by senior Josh Renville goes against school policy. Dahlen says the school doesn’t allow guns on its property nor does it allow “students to wear clothing that depicts guns or weapons or any violence or drugs or alcohol.”

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dahlen says Renville will have to submit a new photo. The student’s father disagrees.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The station reports Charlie Renville says Dahlen does not believe in gun rights and calls for his firing.

\u00a0 MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A Las Vegas woman accused of bringing a 14-year-old girl to North Dakota for prostitution has been sentenced to three years of probation.\u00a0

\n20-year-old Tayari Meadows was sentenced on a human trafficking charge Wednesday. Under a deal with prosecutors, Meadows entered an Alford plea, meaning she didn’t admit guilt but acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict her.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police found the girl at a Minot hotel. Authorities say Meadows told police she believed the girl was 18 and that she was helping the girl escape her from mother. The girl said Meadows knew she wasn’t 18 and that she helped her arrange “dates” in Williston and Minot.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Meadows has agreed to testify against the man believed to be responsible for the prostitution ring. He hasn’t been arrested.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Minneapolis man convicted of selling heroin in the North Dakota oil patch has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vincent Dionne pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver heroin, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Six other people are charged in the federal case.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say Dionne began dealing marijuana on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in early 2012, then started selling heroin when he saw the demand. He was arrested in central North Dakota in July 2013.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The government’s sentencing memorandum asked for a sentence between 17 and 22 years in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorney Charles Sheeley says Dionne is a father of seven children who had been an influential member of his community until he got hooked on drugs<\/p>\n

\u00a0FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) – Federal, state and local authorities arrested 22 people on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation for felony drug offenses and other serious crimes.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 10-hour-long effort Wednesday dubbed Operation No Sanctuary was organized by a U.S. Marshals Service task force and authorities with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0 It targeted fugitives on the reservation and in the Devils Lake area wanted on federal, state, local and tribal warrants.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Spirit Lake Tribal Council requested the operation. The council in August declared a “state of emergency,” citing rampant drug use and trafficking on the reservation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Department of Mineral Resources says the state’s oil production increased by about 6,800 barrels a day in October, after seeing a decrease in the previous three months.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The agency says the state produced an average of 1.1 million barrels of oil daily in October. The October production was about 60,000 barrels per day less than the record set in December.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota also produced a 1.6 million cubic feet of natural gas in October, down slightly from a record set in July.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The October tally is the latest figure available because oil production numbers typically lag at least two months.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The delegation says Cankdeska Cikana Community College in Ft. Totten is getting the $1 million Head Start grant. Officials say the money is in addition to a $3.1 million loan announced last month for a new Head Start facility at the school.

\u00a0CROSBY, N.D. (AP) – Officials in the northwestern North Dakota city of Crosby are planning millions of dollars’ worth of improvements next year as they gear up for the city’s centennial celebration in 2017.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As many as 65 city blocks will get new curb, gutter and sidewalks, and about 21 blocks including Main Street will get repairs to underground infrastructure as well.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Construction will be funded mainly through $8.3 million the city of 1,100 people received through a so-called surge funding bill that lawmakers approved earlier this year. The goal was to help communities that have grown quickly due to oil development.

The idea of switching sanctioning bodies for Jamestown’s A-mod class primarily concerns geography and costs, and Jamestown Speedway track promoter Tim Baldwin said it’s a decision that cannot be taken lightly.<\/p>\n
