Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is reminding Christmas shoppers that they may see a Jamestown Police Department officer walking through stores to help contain a rash of shoplifting that has taken place in stores around Jamestown this week.<\/p>\n

Lt. Justin Blinsky, says over the last two days there have been seven reports of shoplifting at five stores.<\/p>\n

He adds, that the incidences involved different people and didn\u2019t appear to be part of any organized effort.<\/p>\n

Blinsky says there is usually an increase in shoplifting closer to Christmas.<\/p>\n

He points out that the shoplifters have been caught the people in the act, or used video surveillance to catch the suspects<\/p>\n

Blinksy adds that none of the suspects have been charged as yet. The items taken range in price from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND \u2013 University of Jamestown director of athletics Sean Johnson announced that Josh Kittell is the school\u2019s new head football coach.<\/p>\n

A 2008 graduate of University of Jamestown (formerly Jamestown College) and a native of Garrison, Kittell is currently a member of the North Dakota State football coaching staff and will remain with the Bison through the FCS national championship game January 9, 2016.<\/p>\n

The 29-year old Kittell currently serves as Offensive Quality Control assistant at North Dakota State.\u3000<\/p>\n

Before joining the NDSU staff this summer, Kittell was the Jimmies\u2019 offensive coordinator in 2014.\u3000 Jamestown averaged just over 411 yards per game of total offense that season, the best mark for the program since Kittell\u2019s senior season as a player in 2008.\u3000<\/p>\n

During his two years as the starting quarterback the Jimmies posted a combined record of 16-5 and led Jamestown to the 2007 NAIA playoffs.\u3000 As a junior in 2007, the Jimmies posted a 9-2 record and claimed the Dakota Athletic Conference championship.\u3000 He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,320 yards and 22 touchdowns.\u3000\u3000<\/p>\n

As a senior in 2008, Kittell led the Jimmies to a 7-3 record while setting single-season school records for passing yards (2,938), passes attempted (395), passes completed (249), and total offense (3,345).\u3000 He set the single-game record for touchdown passes with 6 and most consecutive passes completed with 12 against Peru State in the 2008 season opener.\u3000 He finished second in the nation in total offense, sixth in passing yards per game (293.8) and 22nd<\/sup> in passing efficiency.<\/p>\n

After graduating from University of Jamestown in 2008 with a degree in business administration, Kittell played professional football in Germany for the Franken Knights.<\/p>\n

He returned to North Dakota to help start the football program at Dakota College at Bottineau, serving as offensive coordinator in 2009.<\/p>\n

Kittell then moved to Minot State where he served as a graduate assistant from 2010 to 2011 and then as a full-time assistant for the Beavers during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.\u3000 As a graduate assistant he worked with quarterbacks, outside linebackers and safeties.\u3000 As a full-time assistant he served as wide receivers coach as well as kick-off return and punt return coordinator.<\/p>\n

His older brother, Joe, is the head men\u2019s basketball coach at the University of Mary.<\/p>\n

Commenting on\u00a0Kittell \u00a0being named the Jimmies Head Football Coach, Johnson says, “We are excited to welcome Josh back to his alma mater to lead the Jimmie football program into the future. He was one of our greatest leaders on the field as a player, did an excellent job as our offensive coordinator in 2014 and we have confidence that he will be successful as our next head coach.”<\/p>\n

Uj President, Bob Badal says, “It is such a pleasure to have followed Josh\u2019s development from a student athlete through a solid progression of coaching positions since his playing days as a talented Jimmie quarterback. I am really glad to see his return home, and I look forward to his leadership of the program and to the excitement that he will bring to our campus community.”<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Public Schools announces that parents will need to call 252-1950, the administrative office, to set up an appointment<\/span> to register your kindergarten student. The registration of ALL<\/span><\/b> kindergarten students for the 2016-2017 school year will be held January 4th<\/sup> through 22nd<\/sup> from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. by appointment only at the district administrative office, 207 2nd<\/sup> Avenue SE.<\/p>\n

The kindergarten program is a District-Wide program. Students may be required to attend the kindergarten program in a school other than their neighborhood school. School assignments will be made in June 2016, which you will receive notification by mail.<\/p>\n

Children who will be five years of age by August 1, 2016, are eligible to register for the 2016-2017 school term. Parents are requested to bring the child’s certified birth certificate.<\/span><\/b> The child’s certified<\/b> birth certificate is required before permanent registration can be completed. Parents are also requested to bring a copy of their child\u2019s certified immunization records<\/span><\/b>. State law requires that all children be properly immunized before they can attend school.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Valley City State University celebrated its inaugural winter commencement exercises on Thursday, December 17 in Graichen Gymnasium on the VCSU campus.<\/p>\n

VCSU Marketing Director Greg Vanney says eighty candidates for degrees, including 9 Master of Education candidates, 44 Bachelor of Science in Education candidates, 26 Bachelor of Science candidates, and 1 Bachelor of University Studies candidate\u2014were eligible to participate in the ceremony.<\/p>\n

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a man who was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle died in a rollover crash near Watford City. Authorities say the man was traveling on a county gravel road about 15 miles north of Watford City when failed to maintain control of his pickup truck after he crested a hill and traveled onto a snowy and ice-packed portion of the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on 41st Street Northwest in McKenzie County.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The office of North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem won’t press charges against a Minot police officer who shot a man in the leg during a fight in September.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Minot Police Chief Jason Olson on Tuesday said the attorney general’s office reviewed the investigation conducted by the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation before deciding against pressing charges.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Olson says his department also investigated the incident and concluded Officer James Jabara was justified in firing his weapon.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The shooting happened Sept. 13, when Jabara responded to a report of a suspicious person. Police at the time said Jabara asked the man to identify himself, but the man began to flee. Police said Jabara caught the man and a fight ensued, leading Jabara to discharge the weapon during the struggle.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jabara was placed on administrative leave while the incident was investigated.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A woman has agreed to plead guilty to dealing large amounts of methamphetamine in at least three states, including North Dakota and Minnesota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jada Grace Bahl is charged in federal court with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Bahl and two other people connected to the ring were arrested in the Fargo and Moorhead, Minnesota area in June.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Bahl distributed more than 500 grams of meth, primarily in North Dakota, Minnesota and Arizona.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and a minimum mandatory term of 10 years. Plea and sentencing hearings have not been set.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bahl’s attorney did not immediately respond to an email request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Corrections officials are still investigation an assault that led to a nearly weeklong lockdown at the North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The lockdown was implemented Dec. 9 following a fight between two inmates. Prison officials kept inmates in their cells and suspended visitation until Dec. 15.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Eric Peterson says \u00a0an inmate was injured in the assault and was treated and released from the hospital. He says the nature of the inmate’s injuries is not being released pending the completion of the investigation. Neither are the names of the suspect or the victim.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peterson says the success of such investigations depends on the cooperation of witnesses, and the investigation may not be completed quickly.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A large jury pool is being sought for the trial of a man accused in a homicide in Minot a year ago.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The judge and attorneys in the case agreed to seek a 100 person jury pool Tuesday for the Jan. 11 trial of 38-year-old Anthony Campbell.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He’s accused of killing 25-year-old Shannon Brunelle, who was found dead in a garage at an apartment building on Sept. 15, 2014. Campbell was arrested in Philadelphia on a murder warrant and an unrelated burglary warrant after a nine-week search.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Campbell has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge that carries a maximum punishment of life in prison without parole.
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The latest estimate from the Census Bureau says North Dakota’s population in July was about 757,000. That’s an increase of almost 17,000 from a year earlier. Governor Jack Dalrymple says the state’s economy and thousands of unfilled jobs are driving the population gains, despite a slowdown in drilling activity.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment that they believe will bolster the rights of crime victims in North Dakota can begin collecting signatures to try to bring their proposal to a public vote next year.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Secretary of State Al Jaeger says he has approved the petitions for circulation. Supporters of the idea need to collect about 27,000 signatures to get it on the ballot in the state’s primary election in June or the general election in November.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Backers say the proposal is patterned after “Marsy’s Law,” which California voters approved in 2008 after the murder of a college student.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The measure would, among other things, ensure crime victims are protected against alleged perpetrators and that victims have information about court proceedings and parole hearings.
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lisbon (CSi)- It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and nowhere was that more true than Monday at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon.<\/p>\n

Soldiers and Airmen with the North Dakota National Guard visited the home, delivering gifts and sharing a holiday meal with the veterans, in order to demonstrate their appreciation to those whose military service preceded theirs.<\/p>\n

Visitors to the home for the outreach event included Maj. Gen. Al Dohrmann, North Dakota adjutant general, and nearly 30 other Guardsmen. Together, Guard members and residents shared a traditional holiday meal and plenty of conversation.<\/p>\n

After the meal, the Guardsmen handed out 143 gifts (one for each veteran) and entertained residents with holiday carols.<\/p>\n

McCaffrey is the first Stanford player to win the award since it was first handed out in 1998, beating out Heisman winner and Alabama running back Derrick Henry for the honor. McCaffrey ran for 1,847 yards and eight touchdowns, caught a team-best 41 passes for 540 yards and four scores and averaged 28.9 yards per kickoff return with another score. He also threw two touchdown passes.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) – Indonesian officials say they have credible information about possible militant attacks between now and the near future so they’re doubling down on security at various public places in the predominantly Muslim nation. Officials say 150,000 security personnel have been deployed across the country to safeguard churches, airports and other public places and that there is special danger for minority Christians. A manhunt continues for Indonesia’s most wanted militant, Abu Wardah Santoso, who has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ISTANBUL (AP) – An explosion near a parked aircraft at an Istanbul airport is under investigation and tight security has been imposed at entrances to the airport, including vehicle searches. A Turkish news agency says an airplane cleaner died of injuries suffered in today’s blast and another was injured. There’s no word on the cause of the blast.

The international ski federation is now banning camera drones after one crashed and nearly hit Austrian skier Marcel Hirscher. The unmanned craft carrying a TV camera came down and shattered on the icy slope just behind Hirscher during last night’s race. He finished second.

She faces felony murder, hit-and-run and child abuse charges. She had her young daughter in the car.
