Sheldon Mohr says smoke was coming from the engine compartment when the four fire units, and 25 firefighters arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The fire department extinguished the fire, which caused extensive damage to the car&#8217;s engine compartment, with the cause undetermined.<\/p>\n<p>No injures with the city fire department on the scene a half hour<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Boat and Water Safety Class is set for Wednesday December 30, 2015, at James River Family Fitness.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 U.S. Army Corps of Engineer\u2019s Pipestem Dam Manager Bob Martin said, this time there will be ONE session at 10-a.m., at the second floor classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Items to be discussed include Life Jackets, Hypothermia, Boat Safety Equipment, Ice Safety &amp; Rescue.<\/p>\n<p>Those participating include the Army Corps of Engineers, North Dakota Game and Fish, Jamestown Fire Department, and James River Family Fitness.<\/p>\n<p>There is no charge to attend, and while the class is geared for 5-12 year olds, all are welcome to attend.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Ice thickness on Jamestown area bodies of water continues to be unsafe, especially for vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show of CSi Cable 2, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer\u2019s Pipestem Dam Manager, Bob Martin said, the water release from Jamestown Dam is only 13cfs, which began on December 21<sup>st<\/sup>, using the 10 inch by-pass value, and the release is expected to continue at that rate until spring. The water is at 1429.8 feet.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the ice cover is unsafe for passage pointing out open water south of the island, to the west. Other open areas were noted, and NO VEHICLES should be on the ice.<\/p>\n<p>At Pipestem Reservoir open areas exists as no water releases have been made since September 17<sup>th<\/sup>, with the water level at six inches below normal freeze up at 1442.5 feet. Later this winter there may be a release of five cfs from Pipestem.<\/p>\n<p>He urges people to<strong> stay off the ice on the two reservoirs and the Jamestown River in Jamestown,<\/strong> as the open water exists, and the ice is thin, due to a lack of a steady cold temperature scenario up till now.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll be in touch with contractors in the next week to determine frost depth, which in the spring will effect runoff.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that soybean field planting last season means less stubble in the fields to hold back runoff water.<\/p>\n<p>Next week, Martin will begin taking snow samples to determine the amount of moisture in the snow pack, which will continue every two weeks or so until spring.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) Meetings on permanent flood control in Valley City have been set, with neighborhood meetings.<\/p>\n<p>KLJ Engineer Eric Gilbertson says the meetings will focus on neighborhoods along the Sheyenne River to see what citizens want for a permanent flood protection structure.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbertson says Valley City residents they have three options\u2026Do Nothing, have Clay Levees or Flood Walls.<\/p>\n<p>The first meeting is for residents living <strong>&#8220;A&#8221;<\/strong> along the Sheyenne River from the hospital bridge north to the Hi Line Bridge on January 14, 2016, at 7pm inside the Regional Technology Center.<\/p>\n<p>Other neighborhood flood control meetings include January 21, 2016, for residents who live <strong>&#8220;B&#8221;<\/strong> from the hospital bridge to the powerhouse in Valley City at 7pm in the Regional Technology Center.<\/p>\n<p>Two meetings on January 28, 2016 will be for residents in area, <strong>&#8220;C&#8221;<\/strong> from the powerhouse south to Bettin\u2019s Nursery at 6pm and a second meeting for residents <strong>&#8220;D&#8221;<\/strong><b> <\/b>from Bettin\u2019s Nursery south to the 8th Avenue Southwest bridge at 8pm inside the Regional Technology Center.<\/p>\n<p>The final two meetings will be held on February 4, 2016, for residents <strong>&#8220;E&#8221;<\/strong><b> <\/b>living along 8th Avenue Southwest bridge to Interstate 94 starting at 6pm and for residents<strong> &#8220;F&#8221;<\/strong> living south of Interstate 94 that meeting will start at 8pm inside the Regional Technology Center located along Winter Show Road in Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>Following the last meeting, KLJ engineers will submit a recommendation to the city during a regular city commission meeting in March on the proposed plan for permanent flood protection for the city of Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>KLJ Engineer Chad Petersen adds that construction on Phase II of the permanent flood protection project is set to begin in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Update&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An Allegiant airplane flying from Florida to Wisconsin made a safe emergency landing in North Dakota after having mechanical issues.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The plane with 107 passengers and six crew members on board landed safely at Fargo&#8217;s Hector International Airport about 8:30 p.m. Monday.\u00a0 Emergency responders said the plane had a deicing problem.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The plane was en route from Orlando, Florida, to Appleton, Wisconsin. Allegiant says passengers were put on a Tuesday morning flight from Fargo to Appleton and given $100 credit for future travel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Supreme Court Justice Dale Sandstrom says he will not seek re-election next year.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sandstrom made the announcement on Tuesday. He will have served 24 years in the state&#8217;s highest court when his term ends in December 2016.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sandstrom took office in 1992. Protesters are expected to gather this afternoon outside Cleveland&#8217;s downtown justice center to voice opposition to Monday&#8217;s decision. Mayor Frank Jackson says protesters have every right to voice their opinion, but he says the city won&#8217;t tolerate any violence. Police Chief Calvin Williams says officers won&#8217;t take an aggressive approach toward the protesters unless things turn violent.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CHICAGO (AP) &#8211; The defense attorney for the white Chicago officer charged with murder in the death of a black teenager says &#8220;more education&#8221; for officers would be a good thing. He spoke after Officer Jason Van Dyke pleaded not guilty to the charges in the shooting death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. Attorney Dan Herbert says Van Dyke wants to prove he&#8217;s not a &#8220;cold-blooded killer.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) &#8211; A Texas sheriff says Ethan Couch and his mother were apparently prepared to be out of the country for a while. But they&#8217;ve been arrested in Mexico, and could be flown back to the United States as soon as today. The 18-year-old had become known for invoking an &#8220;affluenza&#8221; defense after a deadly drunken driving wreck. He was on juvenile probation when he and his mother disappeared a few weeks ago. U.S. Marshals found them and worked with Mexican authorities to arrest them.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 UNION, Missouri (AP) &#8211; Several businesses are flooded in the eastern Missouri town of Union after a small river raged out of control. Water is near the roofs of a McDonald&#8217;s, QuikTrip and several other businesses that sit near the river. Missouri&#8217;s governor announced today that 13 flood-related deaths have been confirmed in the state. He says nearly all of the victims were in vehicles that were driven onto flooded roadways. The Coast Guard has closed part of the Mississippi River near St. Louis because of flooding.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CONCORD, N.H.
