PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO<br \/>\n\u00a0BE RAIN ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST\u2026WITH LIGHT SNOW ELSEWHERE.\u00a0 NEW SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE INCH OR LESS ARE EXPECTED.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck (CSi) Jamestown High School music teacher, Ken Aune, has<span><span>won the Favorite Music Educator category at the 2016 North Dakota Music Awards presented Saturday in Bismarck.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Aune has taught music and band at Jamestown Middle School since 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Schmidt of Medina was nominated in three categories and won for Favorite Christian Band\/Group.<\/p>\n<p>A Medina farmer, and musician Joe Schmidt has dedicated all proceeds from his song &#8220;My Field of Dreams&#8221; to the Farm Rescue organization.<\/p>\n<p>Farm Rescue says Schmidt was inspired by the widespread positive impact it has, and this is his way of helping farm and ranch families experiencing unexpected crises.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Beqn7F3kwRs\">Watch the video <\/a><\/p>\n<p>More than 11,000 nominations were submitted in the event\u2019s second year, and there were 9,000 votes for the finalists in each of the 25 categories for the online competition.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose for the awards is to celebrate the diversity of musical talent in North Dakota, Sturm said. It has helped showcase the popular bands of the larger cities, the lesser-known performers in the smaller towns and the emerging talent that is just getting noticed.<\/p>\n<p>To find out more about the ceremony and see the full results of the North Dakota Music Awards, visit www.ndmusicawards.com.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) District 12 Democratic State Representative Jessica Haak has announced her re-election bid, and will be seeking the endorsement of the District 12 Dem-NPL party this weekend during the district convention in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Haak stated that it is an honor to serve the citizens of District 12 and she plans to continue that if re-elected to another term.<\/p>\n<p>During the 63rd and 64th legislative session, Haak served on the Finance and Tax committee and the Agriculture committee. Haak was recently appointed to serve on the North Dakota Human Trafficking Commission and continues to work on passing legislative bills for adoptive parents work leave rights.<\/p>\n<p>Haak says she will continue working included childcare and protecting victims of stalking and domestic violence. Haak pointed out that in the next session, the group would be looking at the recently announced budget cuts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) An employee labor availability analysis phone survey\u2019s start February 17th with the employer survey to follow in early March.<\/p>\n<p>The Valley City\/Barnes County Development Corporation, and Telos Associates, is conducting the two part analysis to assist with business development.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist says the information is important to economic development efforts to create quality jobs through business recruitment and expansion of existing businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck (CSi) The Dakota Medical Foundation, reports that Giving Hearts Day on Thursday February 11, 2016, raised a total of roughly $8.3 million for local and state organizations during the 24 hour event.<\/p>\n<p>Final numbers for 2016 for each organization will be available at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>The giving surpassed the 2015 event numbers which were $6.9 million through 30,528 donations. (AP) &#8211; Authorities have identified two Texas men who were killed in a collision in the western North Dakota oil patch that involved three semitrailers.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says 54-year-old Lloyd Keller of Iola, Texas, was driving a semi that rear-ended a second semi and pushed it into a third shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The second and third semis were stopped behind a line of traffic at a railroad crossing on state Highway 52 about 6 miles east of Flaxton, in Burke County.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Keller was killed, along with a passenger in his semi &#8211; 46-year-old Fernando Miranda of Humble, Texas.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The people in the other two semis were not hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Formal charges are pending against a Minot man caught stealing from a church while a service was being held.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church contacted authorities Sunday morning, saying he had witnessed a man enter a private office in the church and then leave the building.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officers found the 22-year-old suspect in a hotel parking lot a few blocks away and arrested him on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property. (AP) &#8211; Police in Fargo are asking people to display blue light bulbs outside their homes in honor of their fellow officer who was killed last week.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officer Jason Moszer died Thursday of a single gunshot wound during a standoff with a suspect at a house near downtown Fargo. He left behind a wife and two children.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The \u00a0Fargo police department will have blue bulbs available in the lobby of their downtown headquarters starting Tuesday morning.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The bulbs are free but police are asking for donations. (AP) &#8211; A Geneseo man has been sentenced to a year in jail and two years of probation for a 2014 vehicle crash in Sargent County that killed a passenger.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n21-year-old Jason Neiber initially was charged with criminal vehicular homicide but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless endangerment.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Neiber also was charged with drunken driving in the November 2014 crash that killed his friend, 20-year-old Kyle Nelson, of Lidgerwood.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) University of Jamestown head volleyball coach Jon Hegerle announces the signing of Marianne Scharlau of Elk Mound, Wis., who will join the Jimmies in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>A 5&#8242; 11&#8243; middle blocker\/right side,\u3000Scharlau played\u3000at Colfax High School where she accumulated 318 kills, 177 blocks (107 solo), 75 digs, and 30 service aces with a hitting percentage of .272. Her team was the conference champion and she was name first-team All-Conference while leading the DSC conference in blocks.<\/p>\n<p>Scharlau is also active in the National Honor Society, FBLA, Student Council, and Science Olympiad. The daughter of John and Christina Scharlau, Marianne plans to major in Nursing at the University of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Hegerle\u3000also announces the signing of Britta Knudson, of Bismarck, N.D., who will join the Jimmies in the 2016 season.<\/p>\n<p>Knudson, who will graduate from Bismarck Century High School this spring, is a 6&#8242; 0&#8243; middle hitter. During her senior season, she totaled 185 kills, 85.5 blocks, 153 digs, 35 service aces, and had a hitting percentage of .387. She was named to the WDA All-Conference team and was a second-team All-State selection. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota State University softball team is the preseason favorite to win the Summit League.<\/p>\n<p>NDSU received five of the seven first-place votes in the coaches&#8217; poll to take the top spot. The rest of the top five is IUPUI, South Dakota, Omaha and South Dakota State.<\/p>\n<p>The Bison won the league last season, made their sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament in seven years, and finished in the top 25 of both national polls. Two of the medical facilities were supported by UNICEF and one was a clinic run by Doctors Without Borders. Critics say Newman should be more focused on helping struggling students.
