Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called about 9:38 a.m., Wednesday, to the Hong Kong Buffet, at 605 25th<\/sup> Street Southwest in Jamestown, to a kitchen fire.<\/p>\n

Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says when the units arrived at the unoccupied building, smoke was coming from the roof vents.<\/p>\n

The ladder truck accessed the roof vents.<\/p>\n

Fire fighters broke open the front and rear doors, for access.<\/p>\n

When they gained entry they discovered the small fire in the kitchen area.<\/p>\n

He says the heat detecting system, which sprays a dry chemical, was activated but was unable to contain the fire.<\/p>\n

The cause is listed as the cooking unit being left turned on.<\/p>\n

MDU and Otter Tail arrived at the scene to attend to the utilities.<\/p>\n

Chief Reuther says there was minimal fire damage, but extensive smoke damage to the interior of the building.<\/p>\n

No injuries reported.<\/p>\n

The units cleared the scene at 10:27 a.m.<\/p>\n

There were six city fire units and 26 city fire fighters on the scene.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) At 11:46 a.m. the Jamestown City Fire Department was called to what was called in as a stove fire at 1511 Gardenette Drive, Number 3.<\/p>\n

City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says, the fire was out when the units arrived, as the fire department made sure the fire was out, and extracted smoke.<\/p>\n

No fire damage was reported.<\/p>\n

Five city fire units and 25 fire fighters responded, and were on the scene until 11:59-p.m<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 \u00a0The Valley City Fire Department Tuesday evening about 10:45-p.m. responded to a chimney fire outside a home at 6th Avenue Northeast.<\/p>\n

Fire Chief Gary Retterath says a poorly installed chimney may have led to the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

The fire was contained outside the home and no interior damage was reported.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County Emergency Manager,\/9-1-1 Coordinator, Jerry Bergquest informs residents that on Friday, February 19, 2016, Stutsman County Communications will be performing a county-wide test of the CodeRED mass notification system.<\/p>\n

The test will occur between 11:00 a.m. and noon.<\/p>\n

The test message that will occur on Friday will be general in nature and describe that the call is a CodeRED test call. Residents will not need to respond to the message<\/p>\n

This system is used to alert residents of emergency events and notifications of immediate concern to the public. CodeRED informs the public by calling all land line telephones within the selected warned area. It also alerts those individuals that have signed up for notifications via cell phone, email or text message.<\/p>\n

CodeRED service is free of charge to residents and businesses. Land line telephones are already included in the notification database. To receive notifications via cell phone, email or text, individuals can sign up for the service by going to the Stutsman County website http:\/\/www.co.stutsman.nd.us\/<\/a>, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the CodeRED icon.<\/p>\n

Those without Internet access can call Stutsman County Emergency Management at 701-252-9093, Monday through Friday, (8AM-5PM) to sign up over the phone. The system is only used by Stutsman County officials to provide residents with important information that will keep the community safe and informed. Questions regarding CodeRED services should be directed to Stutsman County Emergency Management.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority will is considering offering “courtesy car” service for the airport’s general aviation customers.<\/p>\n

At Wednesday\u2019s meeting, the board reviewed a suggestion from member Keith Veil for a courtesy car being available for use by pilots and others who fly into Jamestown Regional Airport under general aviation use, services offered at the airport outside of commercial passenger service.<\/p>\n

Pilots who fly their own airplanes and rent hangar space are considered general aviation use, as are businesses like First Class Aviation Inc.<\/p>\n

The authority directed Jamestown Regional Airport Manager Sam Seafeldt\u00a0will find out what insurance the airport would need to have to cover the use of a courtesy car and to see what procedures should be in place for who can use the car.<\/p>\n

In other business, Seafeldt reported that SkyWest Airlines had 922 passenger boardings in January, a 57 percent increase from January 2015. Of the eight major commercial airports in North Dakota, only Jamestown and Devil Lake Regional Airports had positive passenger boarding increases in January.<\/p>\n

Seafeldt says Skywest employees in Jamestown won the United Airlines Quality First award for the fourth quarter of 2015. Out of 59 small airports, SkyWest Airlines at Jamestown Regional Airport came in first place for delivering a safe, reliable and quality operation.<\/p>\n

The authority also approved its long-range strategic plan for Jamestown Regional Airport for 2016-2020. Authority Chairman Jim Boyd said he sent copies of last year’s long-range strategic plan to all authority members. No major changes were made to the document.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The South Central Dakota Regional Council is asking to be put on the Stutsman County Commission\u2019s March agenda to request unpaid dues.<\/p>\n

The County Commission voted in October to opt out of the nine-county regional body and have not paid annual dues, a total of $34,000.<\/p>\n

The Council\u2019s Attorney Tim Ottmar, says the county can not opt out of the regional council, but must be either voted out by the remaining eight counties or take steps to dissolve the council.<\/p>\n

The council said it would also be open to meeting with county commissioners in a special meeting, or hosting county commissioners at the board\u2019s full meeting next month.<\/p>\n

In other business, the council unanimously approved an updated version of the personnel policy and procedures manual.<\/p>\n

The council also approved the new fiscal year 2016 preliminary budget Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) University of Jamestown student Colt Mavity is joining with students from Dickinson and the University of North Dakota to drive water to Flint in order to help with the current water crisis.<\/p>\n

Flint has been in the midst of a water crisis since April 2014 and have been unable to use primary water sources due to water contamination.<\/p>\n

Mavity was inspired by former NBA player Rasheed Wallace.<\/p>\n

Mavity is traveling today filling his vehicle and other students vehicles with water in Michigan, donating the water to those in need.<\/p>\n

Mavity hopes it shows individuals that we\u2019re all here to help when others are in need.<\/p>\n

(CSi) Senator John Hoeven, will be in LaMoure and Jamestown on Friday.<\/p>\n

Hoeven will be in LaMoure to discuss upgrades to the city’s sewage system and funding he helped secure for projects like it at 1:30 p.m. at the Omega Room in the Mall on Main Street. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is providing $3.9 million to LaMoure to help fund the upgrades. Hoeven serves on the Energy and Water Appropriations Committee<\/p>\n

Hoeven will also visit the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown at 4 p.m. Friday to talk about his work to make the bison America’s national mammal. The National Buffalo Museum is located at 500 17th St. SW.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) – Authorities say a North Dakota man is dead after a powered hang glider crashed while taking off from an airport in the Phoenix area.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Buckeye police say the only person aboard the aircraft when it crashed Tuesday afternoon at Buckeye Municipal Airport was the pilot, 55-year-old James George III of West Fargo, North Dakota, who was killed.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the cause of the crash isn’t immediately known and that federal agencies are investigating.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the hang glider belonged to a Buckeye resident.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 George and a passenger were seriously injured in 2005 when a single-engine plane he was piloting crashed in Fargo, North Dakota after it lost power shortly after takeoff.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigators determined that a mechanic had improperly installed an oil filter on the plane, causing a large oil leak.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The head of North Dakota’s biggest state agency faces misdemeanor charges for allegedly impeding an investigation into the drowning death of a child.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Human Services Director Maggie Anderson was charged Friday with conspiracy to obstruct a government function and refusing to perform a public duty. Four other agency officials have been charged in the case, two of whom have resigned.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A child caregiver earlier was charged with negligent homicide in connection with the death of a 5-year-old girl who died weeks after being found unresponsive at a swimming pool in Velva in June. Investigators say the facility was unlicensed at the time and a county social worker attempted to backdate the facility’s license.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anderson’s attorney says she committed no crime and that she knew nothing of the alleged fraudulent license.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Law officers from around the U.S. and from Canada will be on hand to pay their respects during the funeral of a Fargo policeman killed in the line of duty.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officer Jason Moszer died a week ago of a gunshot wound during a standoff with a suspect at a house near downtown Fargo. His funeral is Monday at Scheels Arena. The service is open to the public.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Deputy Police Chief Joe Anderson says officers from as far as Alaska and New York are planning to come.\u00a0 City police from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in that city also plan to attend.

(AP) – A Hensler man accused of gunning down nine cattle in an Oliver County pasture in 2012 will have a felony charge wiped from his record if he pays $5,000 in restitution and stays out of trouble for nine months. Twenty-eight-year-old Dillon Gappert reached a deal with prosecutors to resolve the criminal mischief case.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LEHR, N.D. (AP) – A Mandan couple needed rescuing when their pickup truck broke through the ice while they were fishing on a Logan County lake. The Bismarck Tribune reports Crystal and Monte Senn were trapped in their flooding vehicle on Erickson Lake for more than an hour Saturday morning before emergency crews could reach them.
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man who was arrested on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop in the North Dakota oil patch last summer has pleaded not guilty to two charges.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Buck Richard Hansbrough is charged in federal court with distribution of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Trial is scheduled for April 4 in Bismarck.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Hansbrough was pulled over in Williams County on June 18 for driving without lights on a trailer. He allegedly had four guns, including two semiautomatic weapons, and 40 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court documents show that Hansbrough has felony convictions in Washington state for burglary, theft, escape and unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – \u00a0A man convicted of sex trafficking in the Williston area has been sentenced to more than 33 years in federal prison.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-nine-year-old Keith Graves was convicted on five counts of sex trafficking by force or coercion, distribution of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine in October.
\n\u00a0
\nFederal prosecutors had asked for life in prison. Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced him to 33 years and nine months. Graves said in court Friday he will appeal.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Women who testified for the prosecution said Graves used a handgun, bat and fists to keep them in line.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Graves was one of the main subjects in “The Overnighters,” a documentary that won an award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. It followed a pastor who opened his church to homeless oil workers.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Department of Mineral Resources says the state’s oil production decreased by about 29,500 barrels a day in December, while natural gas production slipped below a record level set a month earlier.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The agency says the state produced an average of 1.15 million barrels of oil daily in December. The December production was about 75,200 barrels per day less than the record set in December 2014.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota also produced 1.67 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day in December, down slightly from the previous record set in November.<\/p>\n

University of Jamestown men’s hockey head coach Dean Stork announces the signing of two more players to the 2016-17 roster. Brett Harris and Cole Zimmerman, currently playing for 100 Mile House Wranglers of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, will join the Jimmies in the fall of 2016.<\/p>\n

“The best players out of the KIJHL end up being top players in the ACHA Division 1 league,” said Stork. “By the time they are juniors and seniors, you’re going to have a really good opportunity in winning a national title.”<\/p>\n

Harris is originally from 100 Mile House, British Columbia. The 5′ 11″, 180 pound forward is in his second season with the Wranglers and currently leads the team in scoring. In 2015-16, Harris has 17 goals and 38 assists with 19 penalty minutes.<\/p>\n

“He’s a smart player, he thinks the game really well,” said Stork. “He can play at both ends of the ice. He can defend, he can create offense. And he’s a good leader in the locker room.”<\/p>\n

Zimmerman, a 6′ 3″, 170 pound forward, also hails from 100 Mile House, British Columbia. With 17 goals and 16 assists, Zimmerman is third on the Wranglers’ scoring list this season. His 68 penalty minutes is the fourth-highest on the team.<\/p>\n

“Cole brings an element to 100 Mile House with his size, skating ability and his shot,” said Stork. “He doesn’t shy away from the physical point of the game. He’s a threat every time he’s on the ice.\u3000A lot of teams will give him an opportunity when he has graduated college. That’s why I really went after Cole.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0MIAMI (AP) – The Miami Heat have confirmed that Chris Bosh will not play tomorrow night in Atlanta, although the team and the forward haven’t confirmed that he has a blood clot. A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Bosh is on blood-thinning medication again to combat a clot in his leg, one year after missing the last 30 games because of a blood clot in his lungs. Bosh will spend this morning meeting with more doctors as he keeps trying to find a way to play again this season.
