Jamestown (CSi) Stutsman County Sheriff, Chad Kaiser has terminated a Stutsman County deputy who filed a complaint about improper use of vehicles in the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Kaiser said he terminated Elizabeth Kapp from her position as a sheriff\u2019s office deputy last week. Kapp had been employed there since 2003 and was promoted to sergeant in 2012<\/p>\n
Mark Friese, Kapp\u2019s attorney, said his client intended to proceed with a grievance or court case to reverse the termination.<\/p>\n
Kaiser said Kapp had been subject to a performance improvement plan since November after receiving an unsatisfactory performance review and a letter of reprimand.<\/p>\n
Kapp filed a written complaint in January that the staff of the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office was improperly using office vehicles for personal use after verbally reporting it to Kaiser in October.<\/p>\n
On February. 15th, Stutsman County state\u2019s attorney, Fritz Fremgen,declined to pursue the complaint, saying “the extent of the use is not something I would pursue criminally when there is an employer positioned to take negative personnel action.”<\/p>\n
Kaiser says an internal investigation into the same incident by the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office is complete, but the results were not released pending the completion of a parallel investigation by the Jamestown Police Department.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Park Board tabled action Tuesday on a proposal to phase in a rate increase for lot rent for cabins at Jamestown Reservoir.<\/p>\n
The Bureau of Reclamation requires the annual lot rents to increase by more than 100 percent for both seasonal and year-round users. The county Park Board had requested the increase be phased in over five years. The Bureau of Reclamation said the increase must be implemented in no less than three years.<\/p>\n
The Park Board has returned a $10,000 grant to the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District. The local share for the grant was $42,000, and the county had no projects it could fund and complete by the April 30 deadline.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Commission has approved early voting to begin May 30, 2016, for the June 14, 2016 Primary Election. Early voting will be allowed at the Stutsman County Courthouse Monday through Friday during normal business hours. There will no longer be early voting on Saturdays because that incurred overtime for some staff and saw a very low voter turnout on those days.<\/p>\n

CITY ADMINISTRATORS REPORT<\/p>\n
David Schelkoph said there will be training to install aluminum planks for the permanent flood control project. The planks will be temporarily stored until put in to place.<\/p>\n
He noted that public service awards were given out at a program last week, recognizing city employee\u2019s years of service to the city.<\/p>\n
The 2016 emergency flood control plans have been updated, due in part to the permanent flood control measures.<\/p>\n

City Fire Chief Retterath reminded residents that the river ice is melting and is unsafe.<\/p>\n
Viking Drive, and south, will close starting Monday March 7, 2016, for work on the permanent flood control projects. KLJ will issue a news release for distribution to the media.<\/p>\n
Mayor Werkhoven said what appears to be cracks in some of the new permanent flood is not a problem, and is made to look that way, and will be safe for flood protection.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is asking for the public\u2019s assistance, looking for the driver of a gray-colored subcompact car that brushed a 12-year-old Jamestown girl while she crossed a street Friday afternoon, February 26, 2016. The car left the scene.<\/p>\n
Police say an older male with a white beard may have been driving the car.<\/p>\n
The girl was walking home from school in the 200 block of 2nd Street Southeast at 3:05 p.m. Friday. She was crossing the street in a designated crosswalk when an unidentified gray subcompact car traveling east on 2nd Street Southeast drove through a yield sign and brushed the girl. The car may have also run over the girl’s foot.<\/p>\n
The police say the girl left the scene and went home, and the incident was later reported to the police. Minor injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
Anyone with information about this incident who may have seen the car and or driver in question is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department at 252-2414.<\/p>\n

ENDERLIN, N.D. (AP) \u2013 Authorities have identified an Enderlin man who died in a vehicle crash in Ransom County late last month.<\/p>\n
The Highway Patrol says Joshua Ertelt was killed in the crash the evening of Feb. 26 at the junction of state Highways 46 and 32 west of Enderlin.<\/p>\n
The driver of the other vehicle 21 year old Dylan Claus of Enderlin, was flown to a Fargo hospital for medical treatment with undisclosed injuries.<\/p>\n
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) One of the many features at the 2016 North Dakota Winter show in Valley City is the PRCA Rodeo Performances.<\/p>\n
Coming back this year is stock contractor and rodeo producer, Sutton Rodeo, of Onida, South Dakota.<\/p>\n
Performing at all three performances will be specialty act John Payne, “The One Arm Bandit”, of Shidler, Oklahoma, along with clown and barrelman, JJ Harrison, of Lowden, Washington.<\/p>\n
The rodeo announcer will be Will Rasmussen, of Choteau, Montana, bullfighters Josh Rivinius, of Elgin, Northe Dakota, and Colin LaMont, of Lodgepole, South Dakota plus a pickup men JJ Hunt, of Ridgeview, South Dakota and Mike Greenleaf, of Greensburg, Kansas.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A Griggs County Central High School gym teacher has been sentenced to 20 hours of community service for supplying alcohol to underage people.<\/p>\n
Authorities said 59-year-old Nancy Paintner gave alcohol to an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old at a University of North Dakota hockey game last October.<\/p>\n
Paintner pleaded guilty late last month to unlawful delivery, a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n
School district officials\u00a0 say\u00a0Paintner is still employed at the school, and it will be up to the state Education Standards and Practices Board to determine if further action is needed.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The 38th<\/sup> Annual, 2016 Runnin O\u2019 The Green take place on Saturday March 19th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n Runners travel the pre-set route on the streets of Jamestown stopping at participating bars.<\/p>\n Once again, proceeds support people battlingcancer and to the Elks Camp Grassick, a summer camp near Dawson, for children and adults with disabilities or special needs.<\/p>\n This year’s run is dedicated to the memories of three event supporters who have passed away, Gene Keller, Wayne Deery and Jay Thompson are presented with a coat of arms on the event posters.<\/p>\n Run founder Larry Knoblich, recently told the city council that about 3,000 participants are expected with good weather.<\/p>\n He said that there are no other conflicting St. Patrick\u2019s Day events scheduled that day in the region.<\/p>\n Registration at Frontier Fort starts at 11 a.m., with six heats starting at 2-p.m. in 10-minute increments.<\/p>\n The participants who actually run are in the first heat. The first 15 men and 10 women who finish the course first are timed.<\/p>\n The run concludes at Shady’s Restaurant & Lounge, at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.<\/p>\n Participants follow a map to visit 10 bars where they purchase a beverage \u2026.that doesn’t have to be alcohol. <\/b>Their name tag is stamped at each location.
