Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Police Department wants to warn Jamestown residents regarding a convicted sex offender who has changed addresses in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

29 year-old Patrick Wayne Schmitz currently lives at 438 2nd Street Southwest Apt #3, Jamestown, ND<\/p>\n

Schmitz\u2019 vehicle is a Green\/Blue 1995 Saturn SW2.<\/p>\n

ND license: KOU872<\/p>\n

He has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota risk level committee.<\/p>\n

Schmitz is a 29 year old white male, six feet tall, 210 pounds blue eyes, brown hair.<\/p>\n

Schmitz was charged in 2010 for Luring a Minor by Computer and Gross Sexual Impostiion when he met a 14 year old female in an online chat room. They met and had sexual intercourse several times.<\/p>\n

Schmitz is currently on probation and is not wanted by police at this time.<\/p>\n

He is on GPS Monitoring.<\/p>\n

This notification is meant for public safety only.<\/p>\n

Any attempt to use this information to harass, assault or intimidate the offender, families, employer, or landlord will be turned over for prosecution.<\/p>\n

Bismarck (CSi) The North Dakota Aeronautic Commission reports another uptick in Jamestown boardings in March this year compared to March of 2015.<\/p>\n

The report shows that the Jamestown Regional Airport Boarding is March this year were 962, compared to March 2015\u2019s 678.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s an increase of almost 42 percent.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Tourism Grant\/Executive Advisory Board, Friday approved two grant requests.<\/p>\n

Meeting at The CSi Technology Center, at Historic Franklin School,<\/p>\n

the board approved the Jamestown Downtown Association\u2019s request for $1,000 for the June 11, 2016 2nd<\/sup> Annual Rods and Hogs event, to be held on First Avenue, South, downtown.<\/p>\n

Representative, Lynn Lambrecht said the event will be expanded this year to include a tractor display, along with food vendors, classic cars and trucks, and motorcycles. There will also be a tire changing contest, a car balance beam, and a trike race.<\/p>\n

The board also approved a request for $1,600 for the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse Open House, planned for May14,2016.<\/p>\n

Also representing the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse Committee, Lynn Lambrecht said the Open House will allow the public to tour the structure, for the first time since a 2014 Open House.<\/p>\n

She said since that time improvements have included the areas of plumbing, lighting, and restorations of rooms.<\/p>\n

At the Open House Jerome Zimmerman will be serving fry bread, with free will donations going toward the restoration project. Other refreshments will be served. Entertainment will be provided by the local band, “Old Friends.”<\/p>\n

A dedication of the Mary Young Room, will be on that Friday, May 13, 2016.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that the State Legislature appropriated $350,000 toward the project, with local matching dollars coming from on-going fundraising events.<\/p>\n

In other business, Tourism Director, Searle Swedlund said the 4th<\/sup> of July fireworks display contract has been signed with RES Pyrotechnics, in the amount of $10,000. The fireworks will be at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

Nellie Degen represented the Frontier Village board, and showed a T-shirt the staff will wear during White Cloud Days, and throughout the summer at the Village.<\/p>\n

She said that plans are moving forward for the activities, at McElroy Park this year.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown retail sales activity jumped by 19.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015 when compared to the fourth quarter of 2014.<\/p>\n

JSDC, CEO Connie Ova, points out that “The new stores and the quality of the existing businesses contribute to that.”<\/p>\n

Jamestown saw an overall 2.2 percent increase in sales and use tax activity, which compares to a statewide decline of 25 percent. Of North Dakota\u2019s 50 largest cities, Jamestown was one of just nine cities that saw an increase in sales and use tax collections.<\/p>\n

Stutsman County sales and use tax collections for the quarter were up 2 percent for the fourth quarter. Stutsman County was one of six counties to see an increase.<\/p>\n

Jamestown fourth-quarter sales and use tax increased from $65.3 million in 2014 to $66.7 million in 2015.<\/p>\n

The increase was pushed by retail sales, which climbed from $34.7 million for the fourth quarter of 2014 to $41.4 million in 2015.<\/p>\n

The annual sales and use tax figures for 2015 for Jamestown and Stutsman County showed about a half percent decline compared to 2014.<\/p>\n

(CSi) District 12 Representative Jessica Haak (D) was awarded the \u2018Friend of Public Employees\u2019 Award by North Dakota United President Nick Archuleta at the organization\u2019s General Assembly Sunday. Haak was recognized for her efforts in the past two legislative sessions and during the interim sessions.<\/p>\n

In his introduction speech, President Archuleta recognized Haak for her efforts in the 2015 legislative session on leave policy to include fathers and mothers and parents of adopted children. He remarked, “\u2026what really established Haak as a rising star in our Legislature was the hard work she put into getting her legislation turned into law. In that area, Haak has proven to be a master at building consensus and unique alliances.”<\/p>\n

In her acceptance speck Haak said, “I believe that together, we can and do make a difference, and we do what we do for a better North Dakota. It\u2019s about economic opportunity for everyone, the North Dakota economy has changed and we need to focus on helping North Dakotans get a head with more skills, more jobs, and more wealth for all families.”<\/p>\n

Governor Dalrymple was also recognized at the event with the Adrian R. Dunn Friend of Education Award for his contributions to K-12 education in the state.<\/p>\n

Haak and\u00a0 Pam Musland are on the Democratic ticket for the State House from District 12, and are opposed by Republicans, Bernie Satrom and Jim Grueneich.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Formal charges are pending against a West Fargo man who allegedly assaulted a Fargo police officer and tried to take his gun.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say officers responded to a disturbance at a hotel shortly after midnight Saturday and encountered the 24-year-old man, who had allegedly broken a bathroom mirror and was covered in blood.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The man was subdued with a stun gun and pepper spray after he allegedly began scuffling with the officers and tried to disarm one of them.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No officers were injured. The suspect was arrested on several charges including assault on a law officer and disarming an officer.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck was put on lockdown for about an hour Sunday after reports of gunshots in the area.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Security Supervisor Duane Edwards says officials at the state museum were alerted to the situation by Capitol grounds security officials late Sunday morning, and followed standard procedure. About 20 people were inside the museum at the time.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police also blocked off several streets in central Bismarck. Officers found no evidence of any shots being fired.<\/p>\n

WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) – A $13.3 million project to replace aging water and sewer systems at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton will get underway next month.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The systems are about half a century old. The Legislature last year approved the money to replace them.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Construction is to begin in mid-May, when the spring semester ends. It will include some beautification work, such as landscaping and lighting. Some trees will need to be removed, but crews will be planting about 300 new ones.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most of the infrastructure work is to be done by the end of November. Finishing touches will be completed by late 2017.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Joel Paulsen with the Fargo engineering company Bolton and Menk says the new systems should last up to a century.<\/p>\n

\u00a0CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) – Students in Cannon Ball are getting a new playground to replace one that was destroyed by a grass fire last fall.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0 Construction started last week on the new $98,000 playground that is being paid for with donations and by the school district.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Oct. 11 blaze melted playground equipment at Cannon Ball Elementary School and filled the building with smoke and soot. The 115 students attended classes in nearby Solen during the three weeks of cleanup.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A new leader has been elected by the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sister Nicole Kunze has been elected prioress and will take over leadership at the monastery May 20. As prioress, she will be president of University of Mary’s board of trustees and have leadership positions at Garrison Memorial Hospital and CHI St. Alexius Health.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kunze was born near Valley City<\/strong> and came to the University of Mary in 1990, joining the monastery a week after graduation. She taught chemistry at St. Mary’s Central High School and went to study at the University of Northern Colorado in chemical education.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kunze teaches chemistry at the University of Mary, but will have to resign her position at the end of the school year<\/p>\n

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A father and son are accused as serving as bird hunting guides without wildlife licenses.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a053-year-old Keith Strand and 23-year-old Ryan Strand are each charged with exploitation of wildlife.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the charge is a Class C felony and stems from the number of misdemeanor charges against the two men. North Dakota Game and Fish Department investigator Scott Winkelman says he believes it is the first time anyone has been charged under the statute.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Game and Fish officials say the Strands were the subject of an investigation last year when undercover game wardens booked hunting trips through their northern Minnesota business.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot’s Maysa Arena is one of 10 finalists named by Kraft Foods in the “Hockeyville USA 2016” competition.

\n\u00a0The arena will receive $10,000 for current facility upgrades and is eligible to win a $150,000 grand prize and the opportunity to host a televised National Hockey League preseason game.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) – Two Syracuse football players were stabbed several times in an altercation at the university’s south campus, and a former teammate has been charged in the assault.
